foxes21 Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Judging by Ranieri's interview, it seems like we will be continuing with the 3 at the back formation... Who do you think should play the number 10 role? We have mahrez/nugent and kramaric can play their too.. do you think we need to invest in another number 10 type player who can play on the wing aswell? Personally I'd like to see Kramaric up top not in the number 10 role.. I could see Ranieri bringing in a defensive midfielder though, and playing 3-5-2.. And bringing mahrez off the bench in a 3-4-1-2 if we need to go more attacking.. He is the tinkerman afterall... I dont know what do you guys think?

General Smuts Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Mahrez at a canter. The 11 that we finished the season with proved they were more than good enough at this level. If we upgrade at least 1 of the centre backs, retain Cambiasso and upgrade alongside him we'll be well and truly set.

Nugent not good enough, while Okazaki should be played as a striker. Stick to Mahrez or upgrade by buying a player who has a better chances created ratio.

This is why I think Nugent has been good there whereas Mahrez hasn't excelled although IIRC he did once, but he's better cutting-in from wider positions IMO. Okazaki is supposedly hard working and could perhaps score more than Nugent too

A no.10 will rarely press unless there's a plan to help squeeze the side in possession alongside the forward. And that would only be in. 4231, 4411 etc type formation. In a 343 which we played at the end of last year the pressing is done by the front two. Mahrez as our player in the hole might occasionally press also but it's largely down to the front two. So for me assuming we carry on with 343,352 and we want a player in behind the front two then you would prioritise someone's attacking, game changing ability. Therefore for me Mahrez is by a country mile our best option there. He was last season and still is one of our only players with genuine individual game changing ability.

We played him behind the striker to start with then changed formations, towards the back end of the season we played Nugent in a front three until he got injured, then changed it to Mahrez playing behind a front two. I think we can do better than Nugent especially if we're looking to move forward.

King is much better as a box to box midfielder or maybe a little further forward but he hasn't got the killer pass or dribbling to be really effective behind 2 strikers.

Stadt Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 Mahrez, suits him down to a tee, enough awareness to crete space and play incisive passes, can dribble well and possess somewhat of a goal threat, I could see him getting 10 assists if played there for the whole season
