st albans fox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 With Mahrez having a 4 year contract and us not Being a selling club, it will take a substantial offer for us to sell. What a fantastic position we are in. That's a bit naive - if, for example, Tottenham come calling, they won't offer a big sum but the boys head will be turned and then you have a problem. you may not want to sell, but once the player thinks he can play in a higher standard for more dough, the 'die is already cast'. all his four year contract ensures is that they have to pay a decent fee rather than pinch him for next to nothing. (In relative terms). On his old deal, they could have offered 5 mill. Now they would have to offer three times that and not be unrealistic. clearly we would want 20 in the current market but a club like Tottenham wouldn't pay that. a European side wouldn't even match Spurs' bid! I suspect most suitors will want to see him perform like he is for a season. Tottenham doubled up on him for much of the game but as it wore on, they tired and switched off, allowing him more freedom. He remains on the light side physically and needs some upper body strength. Europe would appear a better destination in the longer term.

Money is no issue nowadays, if they want him badly then they would be stupid offering a derisory offer, our board will just give them a polite sod off. As for Riyad he seems a level headed lad, and doesn't seem the type of player to be affected by speculation.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 hes going nowhere this season, after signing a new contract THE END
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 We need to have more confidence as fans, our club is going places
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 Going to a club like Spurs would ruin him. Spurs wouldn't be a step up IMO When he goes, i believe he will go to a top European club Can we just enjoy him now, and not speculate about the future?
FoxesFourLife Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 The owners want European football i’m sure he part of that plan he's going nowhere.
st albans fox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 I only mentioned Spurs because they rarely pay the going rate for a player. Always try and get them on on the cheap ( apart from the season following the bale money). don't forget this fella is European. he would be more than happy to play on the continent. you seriously think a player being offered the chance to play at a Milan or Roma or one of the bigger Spanish clubs wouldn't be distracted? Sometimes we forget that this is their job as well as their passion. he could suffer a knee injury next weekend and never play again. It is incumbent upon them to earn as much as they can and get to the highest level during what could be a very short career.
TheSomersetFox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 don't forget this fella is European African
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 What has being European got to do with it? Vardy is European
st albans fox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 He was born in France. Can't see JV being too comfortable living on the continent. that's my point. Too many facetious posts on a Sunday ..................
Lestoh Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 British players don't tend to do too well on the continent, it really is an entirely different lifestyle change. Just look at Cole and Richards recently.
Foxymcoxy Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 Spurs wouldn't be a step up IMO When he goes, i believe he will go to a top European club Can we just enjoy him now, and not speculate about the future? Spurs is definitely a step up. He still won't go there though.
Wymsey Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 He was much better than Lamela, and Lamela is regarded as 'high-quality'.
Benji Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 My biggest concern with the new contract is whether there is, and if so what, is the buy-out.
Nalis Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 hes going nowhere this season, after signing a new contract THE END Sorry to burst your bubble but all a long contract guarantees in modern day football is a decent fee should a bigger club make a bid. For the record, I dont think he'll go this season either, maybe next summer though if he continues like this...
Bamba's Babes Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 Such a non-conversation, he is going nowhere this season. He's a £20M player should his form continue.
Fox 4 Life Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/08/23/tottenham-were-linked-mahrez-for-just-7m-earlier-this-year-anoth/ Those stats are ridiculous
Bayfox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 If he carries on this form. January's transfer window could be a difficult one. Not cup tied in terms of Europe. And as people have mentioned it's hard to turn down the chance to further your career. What hopefully our owners can do is make sure we get the best price as we don't need to sell
Master Fox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 I love how Spurs fans now think their going to buy Mahrez. I think most other clubs fans don't understand is we don't have to sell any players. It's so tiresome reading drivel from likes of Tottenham fans.
EnglishOxide Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 We will qualify for the Champions League and then he won't even want to leave. It's alright.
fleckneymike Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 Rather than any loyalty on Riyad's part, the new TV deal will play the biggest part in where Riyad ends up. As the TV money goes up in the Premier League, the list of suitors from overseas goes down. This is good for us but possibly bad for Riyad. With just six European places then Mahrez's options are reduced, we can conceivably discount Utd, Chelsea and CIty from likely bidders, Arsenal will always be a possibility, as would Liverpool and Spurs but beyond that the only possible incentive would be financial and the remaing 14 Prem clubs are on an even footing in that respect. If her were to go overseas only a few clubs could afford the fee and financial package necessary, the fact we can outmuscle Marsaille shows how distorted the market has become thanks to Sky.
st albans fox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 But most of the comments from the utd and citeh forums think he has plenty to prove and isn't a top four player
