Bully for you sir.

I do actually think John Obi could be in play as he was at Chelsea when CR was manager and isn't getting on the park at present.  What would you think about him as a player?

I think the comments have been taken out of context. CR meant an traditional English type midfielder; combative, strength, pace etc.

Inler has all these attributes so i imagine he was just talking around the Inler issue

It's got to be Matt Phillips hasn't it ?  We were linked earlier in the summer (along with a lot of other clubs) and then it all went quiet.  He's still at QPR and no recent speculation of him moving anywhere else.  I guess CR is after a wide attacking midfielder / winger to cover for Albrighton & Mahrez.  He certainly fits that bill.  Could be a fair bit of money, but worth it - a good player.  Scores goals, is quick and can play on the right or left - just like Albrighton & Mahrez.  He's only 24.

PS Strictly speaking he isn't an 'English player' - born in England yes, played for England at Youth level; but (like so many), capped for Scotland as a Full International.

Townsend, Carrick or Austin.

Demarai Gray would be an excellent signing for us. Direct player, pacey and a good work rate with a bit of skill to boot. Kind of a hybrid of Albrighton and Mahrez and if he has a £4mil buy out clause we should be onto that. I guess you could say the same of Townsend but he would cost the best part of £12-4mil.

It looks like we'll be playing 4-4-2 as our stock formation.

We only have Albrighton, Mahrez and Schlupp who plays left back who can play in these positions. If we get Inler in today then I'd imagine Ranieri would like a young up and coming player like Gray to compete for this position. Mahrez and Albrighton are two of our best players so it's likely he doesn't want to replace them but back up competition and a young player to come on as sub for the last 20 mins would be ideal and Gray fits that bill.

Like him, would Hull do business with us though?

Bruce was quoted saying that they can't stop Tom going if his buy out clause is met, I'd not be very excited to see him come here.

Yes, another good call for a player who should still be in the PL.

Agree entirely. Our lack of first team options out-wide is an ideal opportunity to blood a young winger of Gray's talent into the squad. The exact sort of player we should be looking at.

Sam Byram? Good young english player, can cover the whole right side of the pitch from right back to right forward and is in the last year of his contract and heavily tipped to move into the prem this window. Would be good cover to albrighton and possible right back starter in a 4.

Oh, and the fee touted about is 8m. Our speciality.

didnt Bournemouth bid £4...i think it could have been more for him, and the bids were rejected every time

also WBA are looking at him

Paul Robinson on a free as back up keeper

Aaron Lennon on loan (unlikely unless he hasn't moved on deadline day)

Sam Byram because we need a RB.

Tom Huddlestone with Steve Bruce hinting he is leaving (hope we don't)

Matt Phillips from QPR. Good cover on both flanks.

Charlie Austin if nobody else bids and Claudio decides we need another striker.

This thread is surely pure conjecture all started from a comment made from CR where he said he likes the English players mentality with regards to work ethic.

Tbh Knockaert is the sort of player I'd like to see come in. Think Gray would be good but think blues will make us overpay massively

Knocky would still be here if it wasn't for Pearson's arrogance... And think he would have flourished under Ranieri... Shame!

I've heard a rumour about Alex Pritchard coming in on loan from Spurs.

Derby had a loan offer turned down, apparently Spurs want him to go on loan in the Premier League to continue his development.

I have no idea how true this is.

That'd be alright, actually.
