wokinghamfox Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 Not sure what game you were watching. He was the best player on the pitch by a mile. Beat Ben Davis everytime. Excellent goal made by himself, unlucky not to score when he hit the post and should have won a penalty. It was the Mahrez show today. No other player even came close to him. agreeing with Harry here
Dickov22 Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 He wasn't better than any other player. Scored a goal which doesn't override the overall performance. I'd have given him MOTM by a mile even if he hadn't scored. The shot he had when he hit the post was so clever- not many players around that can do that kind of thing. Should have had a penalty soon. I saw Stan Collymore on Twitter say he was 'head and shoulders the best player on the pitch' I would completely agree
daddylonglegs Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 If you don't appreciate how good Mahrez is/has been for the last 3 games you've obviously been spoilt in terms of our technical ability and have only started watching since the Knockaert days. He's so SO much better than any other winger I've seen play for Leicester. Every time he picks up the ball, you expect him to beat his man, and make him look like a mug at the same time. That's not something you find very often.
Harry - LCFC Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 I thought Mahrez was indeed one of our better players today. He was our biggest attacking threat and got our goal. I just don't agree that he was as magnificent as he was against Sunderland and (to a slightly lesser extent) West Ham.

shailen Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 I like how this has become the standard response to anything you happen to disagree with. "Oh, someone saw it differently to me, better act all superior to show how silly they're being" Mahrez did some good things today but he also mucked a few things up as well - overall he played significantly better in the previous two games. If we're going to hand out eights and nines for today's performance we're going to have a pretty exaggerated set of ratings at the end of the season. I didn't mean it that way. But today we came up against a better team with a considerably better defence. IMO, Mahrez was not too far off his performance against Sunderland, individually. The problem was that the rest of the team weren't up to their previous performances. I agree with you that sometimes ratings are exaggerated as fans, but genuinely feel he deserved it today, even if he had not scored. Currently we need most of our attacking players to be on form to be a threat.
eblair Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 weird i thought de laet had a great game today aside from when he lost his mind a couple of times, same with schlupp
TOMBlcfc Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 Whoscored ratings, no doubt for me that Mahrez deserved MOTM. I know these are purely statistical but just gives a comparison
HesNotGudjonsonn2 Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 The Sun gave Schlupp the star man award. I love Schlupp but no one but MAHREZ should have had it this game. P.s. Sorry for the caps in his name but I shout about him so much that my phone automatically puts his name in caps. Clever phone.
Heymister2015 Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 The players were Knackered! Intense heat very humid stopped us from playing our quick! High tempo game! Subs should of been made earlier!
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 Surprised at some of the low(ish) scores for Drinkwater today. I think his engine and energy levels in the centre has been one of the reasons we've had a great start to the season. He isn't flashy...and his passing can be off (King is a better passer of the ball), but if you watch Drinkwater closely you'll see the ground he covers and the tracking back he does. There was a standing ovation when he went off, I think, but I wasn't sure if that was for Danny going off or the new fella entering the field.
ScouseFox Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 Everyone a 6 but riyad a 7. need to see the goal again but if schlupp was as half arsed and pathetic as it seemed in real time might make him a zero just for being such a dick. pretty solid team performance overall though, and our one piece of quality came through our one quality player.

Pretty much this, DD had a solid game and is back to his best form! Schlupp was having a steady game but completely switched off for thier goal. You still have to remember we are only a few games into our second season back in the top division and to get a point from the "mighty" Tottenham Hotspurs is still a good result. They were the best side we have played so far this season. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves!!
The_77 Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 I thought that I had seen some crazy things in my life, but then I went on this thread and saw folks giving De Laet 4s.

Ranieri should have taken both off earlier though- they were clearly exhausted
TOMBlcfc Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 I think it's a really difficult situation with King and Drinky. Both have performed very well in the past three games but I felt when Kante and Inler came on that they were just a different class. Inler looked composed with a great range of passing and vision (as well as having a cheeky longshot in him) and Kante looked full of energy and incredibly tenacious. Love Kingy and Drinks so it would be hard to drop either of them

Come on Col, Drinkwater returned to his slow paced & negative self yesterday, turning backwards when he received the ball. He tracked back but I didn't see him making many tackles. If Drinkwater played well like he did against Sunderland & West Ham, then we would of had much more possession & we would of played at a fast tempo, yesterday we didn't see that.

Also: The same Sunderland at home and West Ham away where we had 44% and 30% possession respectively? It's quite clear our style of play focuses on using rather than keeping possession.

It's quite clear our style of play focuses on using rather than keeping possession. We created 8 shots on target against Sunderland & 5 against West Ham. In those games it felt like Drinkwater & King were getting the upper hand in midfield, our tempo in play was quick due to Drinkwater & King dictating the play, they were able to win balls, get it on the floor & look forward. Yesterday we saw very little of that, they were losing out in duels, weren't competing for second balls & were given the run around.

No. The instructions were quite clear. Let Spurs on, remain tight and tough to break down then press and counter where there was an opportunity. Ergo, we were always going to surrender a lot of possession by trying to spring counters. Drinkwater stuck to his assigned task manfully, as did King. They did tire in the heat but there weren't many players on either side that didn't.
