How long will Burgees hang around now?

Rumours in the RL world that South Sydney have been in his ear all year. Also a couple of SL clubs fancy their chances with the new salary cap exemptions. Eastmond is very near to signing for Warrington if you believe hearsay too.

Not to mention smug with it.

Sadly smug doesn't come into it, a game I love run by idiots and the national team a disgrace. England would have spent more than any other country in our preparation for this tournament to be blown away with a whimper utterly leaderless and clueless. You will struggle without a Plan B and even more so if you haven't got a Plan A. Constant failings in the 6 nations pointed to problems without the southern hemisphere teams in the equation who are all above us. If you do follow rugby you will also be aware England have not picked their strongest team as they refuse to pick players who have had the audacity to play in France to secure their financial futures.

And like I said, what's actually amusing is the cliché rugby fans were probably sitting at Twickenham moaning about football fans booing kicks.

Ha, yeah, there's an extremely high percentage of rugby fans who are complete cocks. I have had a Tigers season ticket and on Sunday I remembered why that statement is past tense.

The bloke to the right of me shouted RUN IT TAP AND GO at every penalty, free kick and scrum. As if it was funny the first time.

The bloke behind me took less than two minutes (after a horrendously high tackle by a Tongan) to say THIS ISN'T FOOTBALL REFEREE IT'S A CONTACT SPORT YOU'RE KILLING THE GAME REFEREE with absolutely no hint of humour whatsoever. Get the fvck out of our stadium then.

Not to mention the posh but loudmouth pricks - you know the type that board at places like Oakham - starting Mexican waves behind me.

All wankers. The Argies however, great love for their support. Were brilliant value down London Road and in town after. Reminded me of their support in Brazil last year - incredible.

So... Didn't decide to actually go to the rugby until about 3.30. Was put off by the torrential rain and being in a bad mood. Managed to get a lift to Freeman's Common but thanks to traffic (ironically around the rugby ground) I didn't reach the "Leicester City Stadium" until 4 minutes before kick-off. At this point I still didn't have a ticket! I joined a rather long queue for the ticket office in the hope that it might move quickly, until a nice young lady just asked if I wanted to buy her spare ticket at face value of £15- all I had was a tenner in but she graciously gave me the £5 discount! Transaction over I waltzed into the ground and managed to find my seat literally 5 seconds before kick off.

That's the THIRD time something like that has happened to me:

When I lived in Carmarthen at Uni in 2005 me and a few friends decided to go to Cardiff to watch the Wales vs England match kin a pub nearby the stadium, just for the atmosphere. One of my friend's parents were going to the game, so we met up with them an hour before kick off, they went off to the stadium, and we settled down in the corner waiting for it to start. Then we got a call from Nick's parents - a fella in front of them had 2 spare tickets that were for some business associates who hadn't turned up, and was asking people around him if they knew anyone that wanted to buy them off him at face value (£45). Nicks parents said their son will have them, and mentioned that he was a student - this bloke said he'd therefore give them to us for free! Only trouble was that the teams were walking out and we were the other side of Cardiff. I've never ran so fast in my life (and I'm pretty sure if I had to do that now, I'd die) somehow we got to the stadium in the space of about 2 minutes and managed to find our seats as they were singing the national anthems. England lost.

Cut to RWC 2011 - I'd just moved to New Zealand and was struggling to find a flat due to people visiting for the rugby, so I spent about a month living in different backpackers in Auckland. Met a Burnley fan there, who has become a good friend since. We went to England vs Scotland at Eden Park together, where England went through to the quarter finals vs France. Went on the piss down Queen Street that night of which I remember nothing. Then the following Friday I got a text message asking if I still wanted a ticket to the England vs France match - apparently that Saturday night I'd spent 3 hours dancing with and chatting up this Scottish woman who had bought tickets all the way up the final - and agreed to buy her ticket off her! Still don't remember any of this. Having cash flow issues I had to decline, but the next day I was in the pub playing on the "pokies" (slot machines.... in pubs. Mental). Around 7pm, on my 4th pint, I won $400 (roughly £200). The ticket was $180. Kick off was 8pm - so while running full pelt down Queen Street I rang the Scottish woman up - luckily she'd still not sold it. I found her, exchanged money and ticket then jumped on the last of the free busses to Eden Park, and arrived, knackered, just as the teams were walking out. England lost.

I have no plans to go to Japan in 2019 but I don't think I can rule out accidentally being at a game at the next World Cup!!

As for today's actual game - really enjoyed it! Thought the atmosphere was great - 27,000 people over all. not surprised there were so many empty seats in the £65 area though.

Anyone know what the pitch is looking like after today's game? I imagine it has, er, 'cut up a bit.'

Didn't look too bad to me. The pitch staff seem to know what they're doing so I wouldn't worry too much. Our next home game at the "Leicester City Stadium" is a full 2 weeks after the last RWC game so I imagine they'll be able to get it in a good enough condition in that time.

Glad to see "coach" Farrell getting some shit. He should be fired.

I find myself wondering if the likes of Samoa, Fiji and Tonga might have a chance of getting out of the group stages if the bigger rugby nations weren't constantly pilfering their best players.

Every RWC is the same 8 of 10 that have any chance of progressing, which can't be good.

Rather enjoyed some of the matches between the smaller teams: Italy v Canada, Canada v Romania, Fiji v Uruguay, etc.

Might even watch the Namibia game later when the missus is watching Bake Off.

So far it's been a much more entertaining game than South Africa v USA.

At least it's a contest.

Your turn around is harsh, Wednesday to Sunday. It's an important game in context, though, Japan is a game that the USA will have targeted before the tournament as one to win.

You were never going to get out of the group but it's about making gains for the second and third tier nations.

I don't like Rugger 'Finners' so ain't taken the slightest bit of interest in it.

Sorry if that conflicts with your world-view.

I don't really mind what you like and don't like. It just strikes me as peculiar to go in to a thread about the world cup just to say you've not watched it. lol

To be fair Col does it in the cricket thread sometimes.

I remember him making posts twice both after England have lost saying how disgraceful it was, never seen when we have won a series.

Looking forward to Australia v Wales on Saturday, it's a huge game when you look at the route to the final from it.
