KFS Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 I really enjoy the occasional game of rugger, but it really does grind my gears when all the "gentleman's game" arse comes out alongside football bashing. Saw the replay of the Hakka being absolutely flushed out on Facebook, and the world and his wife have commented things along the lines of "what do you expect from a football country?". Obviously haven't heard of PASHUN Do people really want video refs in football? What a waste of time. Was thinking this! Keep football as it is now after this showing
StanSP Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 Do people really want video refs in football? What a waste of time. how is it a waste of time when it essentially gets to the right decision?
Guest MattP Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 I have no problem with the TMO. Important thing is they get the decisions right, it's crucial.
Finnegan Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 Caught a bit of this earlier in a bar in Malta and it did look like a lot of tmo going on. I'm massively in favour of the tmo system though and it definitely works in rugby. It'd need massive tweaking to work in football though. Great try for Fiji, shame their moments of brilliance like that never really last a game (unless they're playing Wales in the world cup!!)
theadmans Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 Watching Clive Woodward at half time I am reminded about his wife Lady Jayne Woodward. Lady Woodward used to be my hot Geography teacher Miss Betts at Lancaster Boys in the late 70s / early 80s. Also Tigers legend And Its a Knockout star John Duggan was my PE teacher.
Guest MattP Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 Decent ending, made it look far more comfortable than it was. Fiji might be favourites to beat Wales.
Guest Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 Mike Brown was epic. We wore them down just in time.
Tielemans63 Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 If England give that much away at least the breakdown v Wales or Australia then it's Goodnight Vienna. 11 turnovers is shocking. Still, I reckon they'd have taken 35-11 and 4 tries before the game.
Izzy Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 Decent performance and a decent result. And in the words of Steven Gerrard: "we go again"
Lionator Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 Who's the guy standing between Will and Harry not singing the national anthem is he a corbynite Nah just French. It was a 5/10 performance, they got the job done but Fiji made life difficult and if England don't get a grip on the ruck area then Wales & Australia will run amok. Some interesting games tomorrow: Tonga v Georgia, will be close, the Georgians have a huge pack but Tonga probably have a bit more behind the pack and should win by 5-10 points. Ireland v Canada, this will be a 50+ win for Ireland, Canada have regressed greatly in the past few years. SA v Japan, again this will be very one sided but look out for the Japanese running game. France v Italy, 8/10 times France would win this game, but Italy have beaten them twice in recent years. No Parisse for Italy so I'll go for France by 15.
Bert Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 Mike Brown is class. Animal of a full back. Gret win for England. Now for a week or so of rugby fans looking down their noses at any other sport, talking about how tough rugby players are (granted that is true, but surely anyone that cares knows this anyway) and how they're "real men".

Come on maaaaan. I love Rugby, I love Football. Some Rugby fans are snobs, some Football fans are scumbag hooligans, the majority of both just love their sport. We could all learn off of parts of each others games.
The Doctor Posted 18 September 2015 Posted 18 September 2015 Decent performance and a decent result. And in the words of Steven Gerrard: "we go again" Not really. England were quite fortunate that Fiji were the Jeff Schlupp of rugby for most of that - sublime at points followed by absolutely ridiculous for chunks of it; play like that vs Wales or the Aussies and they'll be out in the pools.

It's a good sport. It's just the typical, arrogant, snobby rugby fan that annoys me.
Littletoe Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Decent ending, made it look far more comfortable than it was. Fiji might be favourites to beat Wales. Never happening. Wales would turn England over by 15 odd points if they play like that next week. Wales will compete at the breakdown, something I have noticed England are vulnerable at. Either way, good result and evening if you follow England.
Finnegan Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Decent ending, made it look far more comfortable than it was. Fiji might be favourites to beat Wales. I'm not biting that easily Matt.
Guest MattP Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Fair play. Honestly thought you might after a few beers last night!
big stodge Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Traditionally in international rugby the home team wear the away kit if there's a clash. France always play Scotland in white in Paris. what a joke of a sport Not really. As stated,it's traditional

Still, I reckon they'd have taken 35-11 and 4 tries before the game. The Fijians were great at the beakdown. They'd hit it hard then withdraw then power over again having unbalanced the English. They were like the unstoppable power of an incoming tide. We need to learn from that.
Captain... Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Watched it at the Richmond park fanzone, was pretty good atmosphere in there, apparently it holds 10,000 beer prices were pretty high at a fiver a pint, but it was well organised free to get in and a good evening. As for the rugby too many silly mistakes, but we got through a tough first game with a win and bonus point, which is all you can ask for, need to improve though if we want to win the group.
ScouseFox Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Not really. As stated,it's traditional joke of a tradition
Littletoe Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Georgia should be proud of themselves. Tonga are no pushovers.
