What a thoroughly depressing day of sport's results.

my sentiments exactly. though it was pretty amusing seeing chelsea held to a draw by newcastle.   :)

Well Enhland really are pants at everything. *sways nervously in the corner*

We're really good at messing things up lol

Imagine losing to a team so depleted by injuries that they're practically on the verge of calling up Gareth Bale, Dai Greene and Aled Jones.

I just got off the phone to Gats. He's ringing Kingy next.

Just read that a defeat to Australia would mean that we'd be the first hosts to be knocked out in the group stages.  That would be absolutely terminal for the sport of Rugby in this country IMO.

We aren't like New Zealand or Wales where the game is part of their national identity, England needs to be successful for the sport to be successful.  With a huge % of the country watching (possibly for the first time) being bombed out early could potentially decimate sponsor interest, viewing figures and participant numbers over the coming years.

It won't affect it, average crowds are doing well, more likely a good world cup could have boosted attendances but failure wont lead to a significant drop.  More worrying is the lack of world class players choosing France over England.

Don't be ridiculous.

Australia and Wales are both top 4 teams in the world with a legitimate chance of being in the final.

It'll be sad if we're eliminated but that's sport.

I'd have thought that Leicester (and England) supporters would understand sport so much better and be able to handle devastating defeats so much better.

I happen to have 12 hours on Monday and Tuesday with Sports Science students who have Leicester pushed down their throat at every opportunity.

It's going to be a fun couple of days.

As an addenum, how bloody stupid was it to kick for the corner with three minutes to go?

Aim for the posts and either we draw the match (and possibly get one last chance at possession) or we get the ball back from the 22 dropout (in all likelihood) anyway and can go again. Serious tactical error.

It was a very poor decision, a draw would have been a decent result but we got greedy and tried to win the game outright

It's not just that either, we'd have got the draw and probably possession from the restart allowing for one more attack.

Draw not a great result but several minutes left to recycle the restart, go through the phases and win another penalty.

Martin Johnson would have taken the points all day long. So would Sam Warburton. That's the difference between Robshaw and a proper captain.

He shouldn't even really be in your fifteen let alone wearing your armband. Shit player, shit captain.

Was at Wembley today - had been waiting for 15 years for City to play there again but being of Northern Irish descent I couldn't resist! Great atmosphere! We were told that the attendance (89,267) was the biggest attendance in RWC history, which is great - never seen that many people before in my life! I was in Auckland on the night of the last final and though there was an estimated 100,000 around the Queen St area (running around pissed & causing havoc in celebration) it was nothing on seeing a full Wembley. Been to ROI & NI and I've not even sent that many Irish before! All lovely people.

What made me laugh is when I got talking to the fella in front he said he was devestated that Wales won last night - he'd rather Ireland lost to England rather than the bloody Welsh.

Overall great day, loved the new Wembley (though at £5 for a CAN of Murphy's they can fck off), the Irish made a really great atmosphere and of course, a bloody good game of rugby to boot.

Talking about Wembley, had a bit of a wander around the concourse around block G, they had a row of pictures celebrating the greatest memories of Old Wembley including Euro 96 and cup finals over the years - does anyone know if further round there's a picture of Stevie Claridge from 96?

Looks like you had a great time urban spaceman.

Made a complete schoolboy error not bidding for any Irish tickets for the RWC. Hoping to hit up the local Irish pub for the France Ireland next Sun however Finland v Norn Iron and Poland v Ireland are also on that night so it could be an interesting Monday...

As for today's games, I reckon Wales v Fiji wil be an open, high try scoring game. Wales to get a bonus point win. Just.

Not much of a rugby fan, but that was a good watch.

Out of interest, why was the roof shut? I thought rugby was supposed to be an outdoor game with the elements taking effect.
