Drinkwater Rising

That's really interesting, total score for Danny this season is higher than EC last season too. I guess the one thing they can't measure is the effect EC had on the rest of the team, but those stats do tell a story.

There's a massive difference in games played though. You can't read too much into the comparison at this early stage. DD is playing brilliantly at the moment and I hope he can keep it up, but the comparisons at the moment are pretty pointless

I think he needs to define his game more, as he's not really a playmaker and not particularly good in the tackle either. I do like that a lot of what he does but I think given the way we play we need one of centre midfielders to have excellent positional sense and protect the back four a little bit, not sure a Drinkwater and Kante partnership will do that. That's what I am hoping Inler becomes.

He's finally establishing himself as a good premier league midfielder. Another great signing from NP and no doubt his value now is considerably more than what we paid for him

He's been amazing. He's learned a lot from baldy.

He almost looks like him in that vid above.. Another solid performance today - some lovely balls in behind for vards he mustve been working on this in training

Claudio Ranieri tries to wipe smile off Danny Drinkwater's face at Leicester City training

Claudio Ranieri is pleased to see Danny Drinkwater smiling

Claudio Ranieri says he loves the fact in-form midfielder Danny Drinkwater arrives at Belvoir Drive with a smile on his face every day.

But that doesn't stop the Italian from trying to wipe that smile off his face during training sessions.

Drinkwater has been one of City's stand-out performers this season and has admitted to regaining his love for football after a frustrating campaign last season.

Former manager Nigel Pearson had previously described Drinkwater as a complex character but there has been a spring in the step of the 25-year-old under Ranieri.

The City boss says he loves Drinkwater's attitude but that he works him hard when training starts.

"I see every day how Drinky trains," he said.

"He's fantastic. He loves to play. I want this. I want my players to come to the training session smiling.

"After, I try to kill them, but they come with a smile!"

Ranieri admits he works all of his players hard in training, as he wants to foster a strong spirit and prepare them for the brutal battles in the Premier League.

"Every day is a battle," said Ranieri.

"The opponent wants to kill you, you want to kill them.

"You can play well, sometimes you play badly, but your reaction is important, your character." One City player who has been given respite during training is captain Wes Morgan, who Ranieri admits needs careful handling to keep him fresh after a summer of non-stop action.

Morgan came straight back into the City side without much of a break after playing for Jamaica in the Copa America and the Concacaf Gold Cup, two tournaments which came immediately on the back of City's gruelling battle for Premier League survival.

Morgan will be given extra time off during the international break to help him refresh for the trip to Southampton.

"He is in good condition, but now it's important he maintains this," Ranieri said. "Without taking holidays it's not so easy.

"He feels good now but by February or March, he could well be tired.

"When we have the opportunity to give him one week off, it is important for him to recharge the batteries."
