psychonaut Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Im starting very slowly slowly to become more of a fan of Drinkwater - ive been quite critical of him in the past but this season his positioning and movement have been top class. He looks to play the ball forward and get on the front foot as soon as he gains possession. He's hungry and it shows. He still sufferes from a lack of compusure and quite often gives away possession too easily through sloppy play (along with most of the team today) - but all other areas of his game are more than making up for it at the moment. He's definitely made a step up this season and the dedication is paying off. Him and Kante could really establish themselves as an energetic core of our team - always looking to break up play and turn defense into attack. Well done Danny youre making Inler look like he should hang up his boots (jokes)
Strokes Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Yeah I agree, I've never been his biggest fan. I've not seen what others have in him ( I did miss most of the championship winning season unfortunately) but since this season kicked off he has been incredible, positive but disciplined, it's like a new signing. If he keeps this up he might make the England squad.
wattolcfc Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Thought he was pretty poor today, gave the ball away far too much, saw countless over-hit balls. Hopefully he carries on playing like he has for the previous 5 games though because he's been brilliant in the other ones. Feel free to shoot me down, I know someone with ultra-blue tinted glasses will.

Rasmic123 Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 nah he was good today, box to box and great energy over the park
STUHILL Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Great energy but am I the only one who sees him giving the ball away and overhitting passes quite regularly? Deserves to keep starting though. Looking forward to seeing King get a game on Tuesday
lgfualol Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 I'm impressed by him this year. Just has to stop trying to do Cambiasso style long passes because they're not successful.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Consistency has always been Drinkwater's issue. He can fall anywhere on the scale of solid Premier League class to League One class. This can vary not just week by week but over the course of a 90 minutes. The only season where he's really shown consistency was the promotion season but he's had a decent start to this season at a time when he really needed to. Strikes me as quite an intense individual and perhaps one who beats himself in his own head at times. Thought he was ok today, did some very good things but also was too sloppy with possession at others. Time to knuckle down and cut the fluctuations in form out as he's just about leaving that bracket of being afforded time due to his age.
egg_fried_rice Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 One of our better players today and last week. I hope the confidence of continued selection does him the world of good and he regains the form of 2013. Still think he has room to - and will - improve.
Nick Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Cementing his place. Fair play to him. He's a confidence player and I thought it was more a squad thing under Pearson that James just fitted better in the style we were playing in at the time rather than a pure footballing decision (if that makes sense!)
narboroughblue Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Had a good start to the season, worked hard today and was involved in some of our good play. Needs to just improve his passing consistency and then he will be right up there as one of our must play players. Keep it going Danny.
jon1bc Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 I thought he was sloppy today. Lost the ball too many times and he's been the same in previous matches this season. Kante looked a world apart today. Desperately need Matty James to return. I'd rather King.
desertfox2 Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Huge improvement this year and starting to look every bit a prem CM. He needs to give the ball away a bit less though to get near the England squad, something I'm sure Ranieri will be working on in training.
Kitchandro Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 Thought he was awful today. Could barely find a team mate
Fatty Arbuckle Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 We've already got the Ulloa song to that tune.
Thracian Posted 19 September 2015 Posted 19 September 2015 He wasn't our worst player but I watched him specifically and can't see that he was any better than average. In truth he made so many mistakes alongside the better things but the thing that did impress me was that he stayed in there and continued trying to do his bit. Truth is though that he and Kante needed much more help especially as the game progressed and sapped the strength of everyone, emphasising just how vital it is to pass the ball accurately.
benpicko Posted 28 September 2015 Posted 28 September 2015 Shoved his name into Squawka along with him from last year and Cambiasso and he's improved everywhere quite a bit http://www.squawka.com/comparison-matrix#premier_league/2015/2016/daniel_drinkwater/165/165/10693/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/esteban_cambiasso/126/126/2659/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/daniel_drinkwater/165/126/10693/0/p#assists/total_forward_passes/key_passes/tackles_won/avg_pass_length/pass_completion/chances_created/successful_take_ons/interceptions/blocks/clearances#avg
Lambert09 Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 He's back to being one of our most important players. Him and Kante have potential to be the rocks in the middle for the next 5 years.
Vindaloo FOX Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 if Morgan gets dropped and King don't start vs Norwich then Danny should be given the armband imo . i said to a friend last season Danny needs a season to bed in to the Prem and now we are seeing the best of him again, happy i was right .
Number 6 Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 Always think he plays best when we're a team on the attack. Doesn't suit a defensive minded game. Really like him though and think Kanté alongside could free Danny up to push forward.
TMELcfc Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 Love Danny, just feel he needs to be a bit wiser if we play 442... If Kante decides to go forward then he needs sit. Part of the reason we concede so many goals is the lack of cover in front of the back 4.

I missed the arsenal game due to be abroad - how did he get on? Sounds like he was bossing it first half??

I missed the arsenal game due to be abroad - how did he get on? Sounds like he was bossing it first half?? I thought he was brilliant, didn't really put a foot wrong, didn't get dispossessed from what I can remember and every pass he made seemed to go to the intended target, even the Hollywood passes like this: https://streamable.com/nnvs
Vlad the Fox Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 Looks like we've found our replacement for cambiasso.

Top drawer.
