I'm not sure how anyone can refer to that as 'a debate'

He's all in with a scorched earth policy. Imagine that reasoning if you have the nuclear trigger?

This sounds like the worst possible outcome for the Republicans.

The consensus seems to be that Trump did better than last time but that neither candidate can claim a major victory.

It sounds as if Trump's performance will have rallied those already intending to vote for him without being likely to attract the swing voters he needs to win.

This will presumably make it tougher for any Republicans wanting to force Trump out and introduce a late replacement candidate.

If he'd had another unequivocally disastrous night, that would have been much easier - and might conceivably have worked with a half-decent candidate, if the doubts about Hilary are as widespread as they seem.

I've just got off the phone to my mate in Austin and he has said pretty much the same thing, a disaster last night and they might have got him out and Pence in.

Despite being a Reoublican he's praying for a Clinton victory as he thinks whoever wins this contest will destroy their own brand to the extent of giving the other side power for twenty years in 2020 and as he tells me again and again, Trump isn't a Republican, him and his cult following has just hijacked the party..

There's a lot of Democrats that feel the same about Hillary. Not to the same extent but ever since she put her name forward I've read a lot of liberal Americans condemn her.

It'll be hilarious when Clinton is the Democrat president dragging her party about as far right as its been whilst over the pond T-May stands as probably the furthest left a Tory PM has ever gone.

This is probably the culmination of a two party system, you end up trying to court the opposition to such an extent you end up like this.

The Bernie Sanders brigade seem joyous at the thought of sending Hillary to prison.

Definitely.

Both of our political parties in this country have become so watered down and merged, they're practically the same entity.

Labour: "we've got a great idea, let's paint all houses blue!"

Conservatives: "that's a shit idea, boooo!"

<Tories win election!>

Conservatives: "we've got a great idea! Let's paint all houses sapphire!"

Labour: "that's a shit idea, boooooo!"

At least Corbyn is trying to change that, although he's still somehow on 26% though, hopefully the Tory-light hangers on will soon clear off.

But he won't get elected because he isn't vanilla enough, which will just reinforce the status quo for the other two parties who will try desperately to find the most boring manifesto they can get elected on.

To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if Labour would rather not be in power at all until the economy is sorted anyway because they're such the same party that Labour would come in and end up making all the same cuts anyway but lose their credibility in the process.

At least this way they can pretend to give a rats arse about the traditional left whilst the Tories cut more and more of the public sector.

I agree Labour are probably trying to avoid power as a whole, but Corbyn won't be elected as Prime Minister because he's an incompetent buffoon with no leadership or high office experience and runs on a platform of politics the vast majority of people in the nation find quite repulsive rather than attractive, not to mention his incredible ability in managing to put together the most hilariously assembled shadow cabinet of hypocrites and consistently find himself at the centre of foot in mouth incidents on everything from casual comments about the Falklands on TV shows to sitting on a train floor lying his bollocks off.

I like your optimism that the economy is going to be sorted though, with a 1.5trillion debt and an 80 billion deficit that is now only going to go up I doubt we are ever going to be in a position in our lifetimes where the economy in sorted, tragically I think we might now be in a position where it's as good as it gets for us, just grab what you can is my advice before it all crashes down.

The problem with Trump is that his cult following is the base of the Republican Party in 2016. They've been cultivating these thick-headed, patriotism gargling meme people since the Tea Party Movement back in 2008. It's really backfired, and now this right-wing Populism is going to be the death of the Republican Party.

Hopefully both parties go the way of the buffalo and we can start again.

Creepy and cringeworthy by both morons. Its almost as if she felt she had to say whatever to appease their stupid questions.

Let's face it: This year's election offers all Americans the choice between the Bubonic Plague and Cholera.

The sad part is that people who are actively promoting to vote for neither of those two evils are facing abuse from either presidential camp for being "undecided".

Last time I checked, putting in an empty ballot into the box was still considered to be voting.

Played golf with a yank today who spends half the year over here and half in Florida (lucky sod). He reckons there's millions of voters who won't vote for Hilary - just because she's female. And he also reckons there's a great deal of people who will vote for Trump but won't admit it out loud. Apparently there's also people studying all the social media 'chatter' on the election which points to the majority of trends and comments supporting Trump.

Both of those effects have been studied and taken into account by some pollsters already. Hillary is still up by a reasonable margin.

I think it's highly likely that there are loads of folks who won't vote for Hillary because she's a woman, but they're mostly in states a Democrat wouldn't have a chance in anyway. The Bradley effect is also interesting, and the jury is out from what I can tell on what it might do in November, but smarter people than I seem to think it's not as big a player as folks might think.

Edit: looking at the latest, Trump needs to flip ALL of Florida, Ohio, Nevada, Iowa, Colorado and North Carolina to win. Or swap in Pennsylvania for any of the above bar Florida.

Same people that didn't vote for Obama cus he's black. Trump supporters will always be more vocal on social media, most are old, racist and more passionate about talking their beloved bigot.

You've got the Alt Right who are pretty young and very active online too.

Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House, now says he's having nothing to do with Trump either.

Honestly, have the Repubs decided just to throw in the towel now?

Not many repubs wanted him to begin with. Begrudgingly endorsed him and thats clear as day. Not surprised  by the number of repubs defecting from the trump camp.

Wouldnt it be something if trump was actually just playing  a sick game to help the dems win the presidency. lol

I think a lot now realise being defeated here will probably cause far less long term damage than winning to the Republican brand.

Trump now saying if they release any more footage he'll carry on talking about the rapes Clinton covered up, this isn't going to get any nicer this next month.

Some reports suggest that it was Paul Ryan's advisor that leaked the Trump tape.

This will no doubt harbour more anti establishment feelings.....
