A Word of Caution

Recommended Posts

As fans we are in a truly great position. In the championship the pressure was on to get promoted and maintain form and as such we couldn't truly relax until the job was done. This year our goal was survival, with roughly 12 more points required the pressure is truly off us as supporters and we can relax and enjoy the football being served up as no one will be too disappointed if we don't win the league. And if we as supporters start to feel any tension or pressure towards the end of this season it may well be because we are fighting for a European spot, not survival. Happy days. :)

Not entirely sure why the OP is getting so much shit. Nothing wrong with a bit of caution. Doesn't mean he isn't enjoying it? I'm loving it massively but refusing to get deluded. Maybe not as downbeat as that fella but hey.. people are just different.

What is there to be cautious about.... nobody seriously thinks we'll win the league, top four is unrealistic, top 6 potentially doable but still probably an outside bet, finishing in the top 8 is still a brilliant season. Nobody is really getting carried away, we're just enjoying the moment, the last 6 months on the pitch have been almost unprecedented.

Strikes me that our team is as grounded as in the MON team. Even during our rough period last season the work ethic was never in question and our first choice additions since then have only added to that as well as adding extras.

Furthermore they've shown themselves capable of coping with pressure already - lots of it and in different circumstances - both individually and collectively.

Even when we lost to Arsenal and there might have been a feeling of deflation due to finally losing our long term unbeaten tag we just got up and started another run.

This team isn't top by chance. Someone pointed out that if a league table had been published since the start of last season's recovery we'd not be one point clear at the top, as now, we'd be six points clear.

We win games for reasons. Times in the past I've said we have to score a minimum of two goals a game to win because we always concede one. Well, we're scoring a fraction more than that and have been enjoying the bonus of having a tighter defence.

People say what about if we lost Vardy, or Mahrez but there's a lot of "what if we lost them" players in our team right now but it's not as if our bench has the filling of the Rob Kelly era, Benny, Kingy, Schlupp, Ulloa/.Shinji, Wes and even Kramaric, Inler and DeLaet are hardly duffers in an emergency.

No, I'm not assuming anything either. we've a tough run coming up but there's no easy runs in the Premiership. Newcastle away has hardly made for happy hunting in the past and teams like Palace,. West Ham, Southampton and West Brom have collected some impressive scalps so there's no reason we shouldn't because one thing's for sure....no-one will get an easy ride against Leicester.

Even against Arsenal we could have gone three goals up before we eventually came unstuck.

I've every faith in this team. They've the kind of bond that can achieve anything - at least in the League. Cup games are different. There's just no sense of ambition at all.

no offence but if you are looking at the negatives and being cautious atm considering what's happened to us in the last 15 years you are weird. who gives a shit what might happen in 6 weeks time and we might not be top then and we might lose 3 games in a row and we might not win the fa cup but why not just enjoy the ride, we're top of the fvcking league have two of the best players in the world have a manager who looks like this :cap: and are top of the league

You forgot to mention that we are top of the league.  :D

With all due respect Clever Fox unless someone just followed city for 2 years we all know the pain of being a foxes fan !

So let's just enjoy the moment the future will be the future !

Well put after all the hurt of relegation nearly getting there and administration all the sad times being a city fan, this season is like a breathe of fresh air it's what Leicester deserve all the knockers last season backing us for the drop and we fight back to survive and then this season again suggesting we wouldn't survive having played games that we're losing only to come back and win only losing once in 13 games Jamie Vardy breaking records this season it's absolutely awesome and as for bitter Jose we have more chance of winning the league than his overpriced underachieving prima donnas so why not us winning the league it's been done before!

But all in all I have been one very happy Leicester fan this season bragging rights at work against the baggies and villa fans our superb performances long may it continue but I've a feeling we will finish top six come May and that would be a dream but whatever happens I have been so proud of these players, Claudio and Leicester City as a whole well done lads keep it up !!

Through the good and the bad through the tears and the joy I would never want to support any other club than Leicester City !!

Apart from stop being a Nellie, the other thing  I  want to say is we have Manchester United, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Man City in our next 6 games, nobody is turning up expecting to win them.

This has come at the best possible time, as we are flying and we will never be complacent against these teams as they are the established Premier League elite, these are the big boys along with Arsenal and Spurs. These dominate the  top 6 every year, of these 7 sides only Man City have ever been relegated from the PL.

Nobody will be underestimating these teams, we will raise our game to an even higher level in this run, and if we fall short so what?

The real test will be to get ourselves going again for what is one of the easiest games in the league Bournemouth at home on January 2nd, but that is a long way off.

In a way I think the manner of the defeat to Arsenal will help us, yes we could have been a couple of goals up before they scored, but we were naive in our play. Obviously the changes at the back will help as well, as pretty much everyone outside Leicester thinks "our defence is shit".

Poor old Clever Fox is probably wishing he hadn't started this thread now.   But to be fair he has followed the team for 55 years and is as excited as the rest of us at what is happening this season .....   it is incredible.    And this thread is just his way of trying to calm down and not get carried away ...    probably the same as a few of us feel .....

However .........       Act your bloody age you stupid old git and enjoy the moment !!!   .......      You sound like an old woman !!!

Up the City !!     :scarf:  :scarf:  :scarf:  :scarf:  :scarf:  :scarf:  :scarf:  :scarf:  :scarf:  :scarf:

Having reread CleverFoxs post again i dont think he is as pessamistic as some have made out as he stated "enjoy the ride"...just the opposite it sounds as though he really wants us to continue on the good work done so far and if if the players and staff keep thier feet on the ground theres no reason why it shouldnt ...BUT as i believe Ringo Starr once said "the only trouble with keeping both feet on the ground is that you never get to take your trousers off".. perhaps a little bit of daydreaming might not go amiss

...also i thought the Newcastle goalkeeper was excellent, maybe a replacement for Schawtzer ?...Ben Hamer hasnt done much wrong but get the feeling his face doesnt seem to fit for some raeson

I don't think the team cares who they're coming up against, so I don't think we should either. The boys'll fight for each other through this stretch.

I can't wait.

I disagree that they won't care about who they are playing, United, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool you can't not see those names and think of the history and status of these clubs, they will be more fired up and more nervous for these games, it is only natural, the good thing is they have all proven themselves vulnerable this season, but it is still a mental hurdle to overcome.

There is no need for caution because no Leicester supporters really think we have the league sewn up. Most will be thinking a top half finish will be great. Top 6 or 7 is now possible but not definite.

I remember it being on Sky and 4-0 but I could be wrong.

Can't be bothered to check.

It was definitely 0-3 but it might have been on Sky.

IIRC we would have gone 5pts clear if we won so it may have been a Saturday early kick off?

One thing for sure is even though we were top under Taylor we were very ordinary and getting worse, I think we'd conceded two goal in eight games IIRC but we had no illusions of finishing right up there.

This time it's different after Liverpool beat Man City I had the first shoots of optimism that we could possibly win the whole bloody league. It's probably a 1% chance but I haven't totally wrote the possibility off.

Imagine if we get 12pts+ out of the next six games. I'll dream whilst I can.

While it's great to see us sit in such a lofty position  All we've achieved is the easier part of the job that is getting to the top of the League. The really hard part is staying there. But make no mistake, We're where we are on merit. Nobody gifts you top of the league.

Now the real battle begins as it gets tougher from here. Teams will up their game and want to beat us just because we are top Dogs. Distractions will be greater, Media attention will be higher. Requests for personal player interviews. Agents trying to tap up players. All distractions we could clearly do without.

How the players handle this period will determine how far we've come as a team. it's very easy for the players to believe the hype and start thinking that they just have turn up to win matches. That's the one area Ferguson at Man Utd excelled at, keeping the players grounded at all times.

I'm sure Ranieri will be wary of that and keep them focused. The players for their part need to stay focused and continue to work hard and play in the same manner. While both Players and Fans fully enjoy the ride and experiences along the way. Then come next May hopefully we can all reflect on what is so far proving to be an historic season, Certainly one of the best in my 55 years following Leicester.

Keep it up lads.

Not sure about the "easier part getting to the top of the league" bit, but I'm with you

I hope that if we (possibly) were to lose 3/4/5 on the spin, the supporters wouldn't become "Anti-Ranieri" so to speak

I agree that we should enjoy the ride at the top while we can, but a moment of caution isn't a bad thing, means we shouldn't get TOO carried away

Other than that, up the lads!

I agree with Thracian about having faith in this team/squad.

Look at it objectively, we currently have:

1. This season's leading and joint 4th PL goal scorers

2. The player in second place for assists

3. Two European international captains (one can't even get in the starting 11)

4. Current international players from 10 countries (1 x Japan, 1 x Wales, 1 x England, 1, Algeria, 1 x Denmark, 1 x Croatia, 1 x Jamaica, 1 x Ghana, 1 x Switzerland, 1 x Austria)

5. Players with experience from not only the Premier League, but also Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1

6. A manager that has been successful in Italy, Spain and France and not for unfashionable clubs but European giants such as Juventus, Roma, Inter, Monaco and Valencia

When you see it like this, it astonished me that we're still talking about our club. I honestly don't think we need to worry about comparing this team with that of Peter Taylor's.

I think it's possible we will win the league for the record.

I don't think we are the best team in the league, however we are very well organised, have a great fighting spirit and have a top-notch tactical manager in Ranieri.

At the same time, Man United still haven't recovered from the loss of Ferguson, Chelsea are in turmoil, City are inconsistent, Liverpool have not been great for years and Arsenal always flatter to deceive but have a soft underbelly.

Blackburn and Leeds have done the unthinkable in my time watching football, and while not likely, it is by no mean impossible for Leicester to have a perfect season and win the league.

If anyone asks me I say we are picking up points to avoid relegation, but the truth is I am desperate for our run to continue and, even if it is by default, be crowned Premier League Champions at the end of the year.

If I'm wrong, I can handle the disappointment.  I've been watching the club for 25 years after all !!

The fact is that we can win on Saturday. I expect a draw but I think we will win (make sense of that)

Can we win at Everton or Liverpool? Well we didn't lose at either venue last season.

Can we win at Swansea? Why not.

Tbh, I think Chelsea and citeh at home are our toughest games in this run and it wouldn't be at all ridiculous to think we could accumulate at least 8 points from these 6 fixtures. That would mean Spurs have to take 12 points from 18 to take fourth spot from us by the end of the year.

Be positive!
