Babylon Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Everton fan will be gutted. Obviously Coleman, McCarthy, Mori and Galloway aren't that appealing to play with after all
Fox 4 Life Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Happy with this, he looks a real talent and will add some much needed competition to an already strong wing presence!
Gerard Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 The Everton fan will be as gutted as Gray must be stupid. Doesn't Gray realise that 11 years before he was born Everton were champions of England?
AKCJ Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 He'll be as gutted as Gray must be stupid. Doesn't Gray realise that 11 years before he was born Everton were champions of England. I hope that on Everton's forum they have a "do you mean us" thread and they're all laughing at daft comments like this. Everton are a far bigger club than us. Deal with it.

AKCJ Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 They may be a bit bigger than us but they're not a big club anymore. Now you deal with that. I hope you're joking.
Gerard Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 I hope you're joking. Not at all. Everton's income is dwarfed by the big clubs, they haven't won a trophy in over 20 years. All things being equal a mid table finish for them is about what's expected on their budget, if anything they're punching above their weight nowadays. I don't give two hoots that they used to be a big club, so did Villa.
Jon the Hat Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 I hope you're joking. Man has a point. They aren't challenging for anything. Not saying we are mind, but Everton are not as big as they once were.
filbertway Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Tidy stuff. I'd have found it a tough choice between the two. Probably more likely to get first team opportunities here and we're clearly an ambitious club looking to progress. Negatives would be that we're a fairly unknown quantity in the prem and there's always a chance it could all go belly up at some point in the near future, especially if we lose key players and fail to replace them. Everton are an established club with a good squad and manager and he would be in competition with 4 good wingers who are all similar to him in that they are quick skillful players. The negatives for them is that they appear to be stalling in recent seasons (expected to be around 10th-6th most seasons) and don't have the backing that we do (as far as I can tell). I imagine we have just offered him higher wages and he gets to stay local to where he lives now would be closest to the truth though.
AKCJ Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Man has a point. They aren't challenging for anything. Not saying we are mind, but Everton are not as big as they once were. They've been challenging for Europe since the beginning of time. We've had a couple of seasons (at best).
Finnegan Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 They've been challenging for Europe since the beginning of time. We've had a couple of seasons (at best). Lukaku aside, Everton are famous for being frugal and having no money. Our owners have more clout than theirs, frankly, they'll need to get used to us besting them to signings unless they start coming up with more wonga. That's all there is to it. It's business. You can stick the big club, little club rubbish up your arse. Man City were a tinpot yoyo club like us before they got money. Why people are still confused by this is beyond me. History =/= success.
Babylon Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 I hope you're joking. They seriously need to move grounds, they are falling behind massively. Their last trophy was 20 years ago, that's their only one in about 30 years. Everton are Everton, we'll never match their history, I'd be more than happy with the league finishes they've had for about the last 11 years. But... they are now getting dragged into the group of teams behind them. A couple of average league finishes and what they won 30 years ago will mean little to players. If they finished bottom half again will they be viewed as much more attractive than someone like Stoke, an established premier league team?
Gerard Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 They've been challenging for Europe since the beginning of time. We've had a couple of seasons (at best). Challenging for a Europa spot doesn't make you a big club. The big clubs are Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool. You could also argue a case for Tottenham as they're not as big as those five but far bigger than anyone else. The rest of us just make up the numbers scrapping over the odd cup win and Europa spot.
Jordan Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Everton probably never submitted a bid, and the reports were probably the result of an agent doing typical agent-type things.
Babylon Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 They've been challenging for Europe since the beginning of time. We've had a couple of seasons (at best). They have been in Europe 6 times in 31 years (at least one of them was through the fair play league). We've been in twice and we've been shit for most of that 30 years.
ImBlue Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 They've been challenging for Europe since the beginning of time. We've had a couple of seasons (at best). Won nothing for ages, outside he top 6 in three of the last 5 seasons and finished last season 11th, the position they occupy now. Do players go on history? Not unless it's a man Utd, Liverpool etc type of team. Everton are just another mid-table possibly top half club. Nothing special and haven't really moved on over the last 10 years, if anything, declined.

Eh? I'm merely arguing the point that they're a big club. They most certainly are. Where have I mentioned money/financial clout? Gerard made out that the only reason Gray would consider signing for them is because they won the league 20 years ago or whatever, I'm merely pointing out how ridiculous that was. They've had a rich history of being a high end Premier League/First Division club. We most certainly have not.

AKCJ Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Demarai Gray doesn't think so Demarai Gray doesn't think that being a big club has a big influence on transfers. He's most certainly correct. But this idea that we've bagged Gray because Everton aren't a big club is absolute nonsense. They're bigger than we are. End of.

Babylon Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 What matters to player I think would be going to a secure team, Everton are that. What they did 30 years ago is probably of little relevance any more, but having never been relegated will count for a lot. They are still scraping in to the "bigger team" bracket. But to stay there, as I said the stadium needs sorting asap, or more and more teams will moving their reputation upwards as theirs stagnates and declines. Always liked Everton.
