Because Everton tried to scupper the deal, because an Everton fan came and posted in here and because there is differing opinions of whether we are more attractive than the club gray turned down, Everton.

I hope that clears it up.

No, it's just turned into the same old "big club" argument that's been on multiple threads.

Back to Gray-- that kid's a talent. With him cutting in from the left and Mahrez cutting in from the right, we could see a lot of defenders with tangled feet.

What matters to player I think would be going to a secure team, Everton are that. What they did 30 years ago is probably of little relevance any more, but having never been relegated will count for a lot. They are still scraping in to the "bigger team" bracket. But to stay there, as I said the stadium needs sorting asap, or more and more teams will moving their reputation upwards as theirs stagnates and declines. Always liked Everton.

Not only that, but Everton are actually giving their young players a chance. We've played Dodoo in the league cup and a brief cameo in the league while Moore isn't even close to the first team. Chilwell and Lawrence are earning rave reviews on loan, yet we do not require them despite not having a wealth of cover in the areas these cover.

IIRC got spanked 5-0 in the first leg of the qualifier?

Top 6 finishes in only 3 of the next 10 seasons.

Oh how awful. Remind us all how many times we've finished above them.

When you are a "safe" team it's a bit easier to chuck in youngsters. It's something we should be aiming for this year with us pretty much being secure for another season.

If they are good enough they will get game time anyway I think. We don't have left back cover other than Schlupp, I think that will now become Chilwell with Schlupp just going back on the wing.

Once again you claim Everton are a big club by comparing them to Leicester.

That's like saying a tortoise is quick because it's faster than a snail.

On the argument of Everton been a bigger club then I'm afraid it's simply Everton, due to the history, fan base, bigger ground (though it's a crap hole falling to bits). On the other hand I think at the moment looking at the two clubs he's likely to be more successful at Leicester than at Everton. The league table doesn't lie.

To be fair to us, we've brought a lad through our academy to become our highest ever midfield goalscorer and joint 22nd in the overall appearance rankings on 319, not sure if Everton have done that recently...

FFS all this waffling on about how good Everton are. Why don't you just go and support them then if they're so amazing

I was enjoying this thread a couple of pages ago where a couple of tongue-in-cheek (yet perfectly accurate as it transpired, huh) comments were sufficient to incur the wrath of an Evertonian who clearly has massive delusions over their current standing in football and nobody from on here had stepped in to embarrass themselves by belittling our own club to argue against the suggestion (which unless I've missed it doesn't even crop up until the comments in question) that Everton aren't a team with a lot of history.  Poor show chaps.

Thought they went out in the qualifier? Hence didn't qualify?

They didn't qualify for the group stages, but I didn't say that they did.

I said that they qualified for the Champions League and they most certainly did.

Who cares who's bigger? It's like an argument you have a school about who's dad is bigger!

We have won this one & might lose out on the next potential target to someone. That's how it works. Different players have different circumstances like location, money etc.

Us & Everton are both big clubs but Everton are more proven in the premier league yet we probably do have a more exciting project going on at the moment.

Considering it was our first season back in Premier league, we had 6 less points than them last season. We are currently 13 points ahead this season.

So since we returned to the top league, we've collected 7 more points than them. That's without being biased and doing it when our good run started. They're in decline under Martinez.

I think Gray, like everyone on here, thinks we're going places and wants to be part of it.

Isn't that a bit like saying Scotland qualified for the European championships because they played in the qualifiers.

The clue is in the name "qualifiers" surely?

That would be quite disturbing.

No.

You qualify for the Champions League via League position or winning either the Europa League or Champions League.

Dependant on your league position, you may have to play a group stage qualifier. Which Everton had to do having finished 4th the previous season.
