Demarai Gray - Official

Everton are unquestionably a bigger club then Leicester but Leicester are unquestionably a better club then Everton are currently. Players that join one club over another because they are bigger end up like Jordan Veretout and players that join one club over another because they are better end up like N'Golo Kante.

Demarai Gray doesn't think that being a big club has a big influence on transfers. He's most certainly correct.

But this idea that we've bagged Gray because Everton aren't a big club is absolute nonsense. They're bigger than we are. End of.

Stop talking soft. Personally I've never really seen Everton as a big club. Just like I don't see us as a big clubs. The big clubs in England at this moment are Man U, Man C, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and to some extent Spurs. Do you think players like Neymar, Messi or Ronaldo think "I hope Everton bid for me I'd love to go there" do they balls!! No bigger than us

You'll forgive me of the slight typo, I had intended to type "30 years".

The irony in my post was lost on you I see.  :D

The point I was trying to make is that why would Gray consider Everton on a trophy they won 30 years a go. For a 19 year old it may as well have been 100 years a go.

What do we expect Everton to win in the next 30 years? A domestic cup or two? They're not a big club anymore.

The other thing we have going for us I would imagine is location. For a 19 year old, he might not yet be ready to be so far away from home... He could possibly still commute to Leicester from Birmingham..

What do we expect Leicester to do? Considering all we've ever done is won a domestic cup or two.

They're a bigger club than we are.

You go on about Everton not doing much during Gray's lifetime.

He probably won't remember us being in Europe. He'll certainly remember how Everton have qualified for the Champions League consistent top 8 finishes and us being relegated to League One.

Spot on.

We're not more an attractive proposition than Everton if you look at the grand scheme of things. Anyone who says otherwise is a total moron.

Everton are about as big as Aston Villa and that cannot be taken away from any of those clubs unless they do a Preston and sink to League Two and then bounce around the lower leagues for 50 years. I cant see that happening to Everton so they will always be a big club but we are currently better then all of the above mentioned clubs currently and I'd take that over being able to say we were the best club in England before I was born.

So, how attractive a club is to potential signings is based on nothing but history? That's BS! Do you consider Aston Villa or Leeds United to currently be a more attractive club than Leicester City?

Personally think that Rowett would have played a part in his decision. He knows our club and the level of expectation compared to Everton and I'm sure he would have nudged him towards us knowing that from the lads development perspective he's likely to push on with us.

I take the point that the Everton supporter made about the quality of their team but sometimes that can work against you when you're trying to attract young players with lots of potential as they look at the likes of Delofeu, Lennon, Barkley, etc, who are all good established PL players and they wonder how they are likely to get sufficient game time to develop and take their game to another level. Aside from Mahrez, I think Gray has as good a chance as any of the other wingers in making the first team.

Except they are currently 11th 20 games in and finished 11th last season.

This post just solidifies my point.

I don't expect Leicester to do that much either, maybe win a domestic cup and a few campaigns in Europe, not too dissimilar on Everton's expectations.

I'm not arguing that Leicester are a bigger club than Everton, I'm saying they're not a big club. With you comparing Everton to Leicester rather than Everton to the big clubs proves my point. Everton & Leicester are more similar to each other than Everton & the big clubs.

What part of my post mentioned Aston Villa or Leeds United?

The point is Everton have big players with quality, with consistent good finishes in the premier league year after year. They have never been known for financial power but they're ambitious, with a good reputation for developing young players. Everything that Leeds and Aston Villa are not.

It's not rocket science to work out.

Everton have never been in the Champions League.

Everton have never been in the Champions League.

IIRC got spanked 5-0 in the first leg of the qualifier?

Top 6 finishes in only 3 of the next 10 seasons.

Why the f*** are we still going on about Everton on this thread?

Because Everton tried to scupper the deal, because an Everton fan came and posted in here and because there is differing opinions of whether we are more attractive than the club gray turned down, Everton.

I hope that clears it up.

Why does everything have to break down into an argument about how "big" a club is?

Demarai Gray is going to do the best thing for Demarai Gray based on his available choices. If Stoke or West Brom met his release clause with a bid and offered him a good contract, a plan to develop his career while giving him 1st team playing time, and guaranteed a suitable arrangement to balance work and personal life, he'd at least give those offers serious consideration.

The they are bigger etc nonsense really?

My penis is bigger than your penis lol absolute moronic nonsense

Move on . . . .

If we fail to qualify for the Champions League this season we will still have as much chance as Everton have got to qualify for it in the future. However, we have got more chance of qualifying for it this season so that will immediately make us more attractive to any potential signing in this transfer window. I doubt footballers think that "I'll sign for Everton because they were one of the best before I was born". I'd bet its more like "I'll sign for Leicester because they can offer me a chance of potentially playing in the Champions League next season". There's no guarantees in football but at least we can use potential Champions League football as a bargaining tool without sounding daft. Everton aren't in a position to offer that to any player they are looking to sign, we are.

Everton are a decent club with a young and dynamic squad, I think Martinez is doing a really poor job with them the last 2 seasons and they are in danger of being left behind. If Stones, Barkley, Lukaku and Coleman decide they've had enough then it could undo all the foundation building they've done in the last 4-5 seasons. I'd personally get rid of him and bring a new manager in, that squad should be top 6 minimum.
