filbertway Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Outside of the big clubs goalies (De Gea/Cech/Hart/Lloris) the only keeper I rate as much as Schmiecal is Jack Butland at Stoke. Kasper has his weaknesses but so does every other keeper. I wouldn’t swap him for any of the other Prem keepers: Mignolet, Howard, Adrian, Hennessey etc - and I don’t think too many of our moaning fans would either if they actually stopped to think about it. Be grateful and remember Ricardo before wishing for a new ‘top keeper’! I'd put Butland in for Cech there, it's such a shame for him that Hart is in front of him. Though I can see that changing over the next few years. The only keeper I'd consider swapping with out of that bracket is probably Adrian who looks brilliant everytime I see him.
Kitchandro Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 He's making mistakes EVERY single game at the moment. His dealing with crosses is extremely poor and we cannot afford to keep going on like that. Yes he made a very good save from Kane, which we know he's capable of, but what you really need game after game is reliability. Someone who will do the basics - catch crosses, know when to punch, know when to stay on his line etc. He's absolutely dreadful at this and it's noticeable in every match. Last night there was that moment in the second half where he could have just caught it - but no, he does the most pathetic punch ever that drops 5 yards in front of him in the danger area and we have to scramble it clear. He also flapped at a corner in the first half. These are the sort of things you expect to happen once in a blue moon, not multiple times every week.

STUHILL Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Top class at most things such as kicking, one on ones, long range shot stopping but where he falls below top class is his inability to control his area and taking balls out of the air and instead preferring to punch or retreat to his goal line. I think not being 6ft 4+ probably has a lot to do with that weakness but overall, he is good enough for us and his spirit and personality must also greatly help the team and squad ethic.
richardsfoxes Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Can people have a bit more respect for someone who's played 200 games for us and been a catalyst in what has been achieved in the last 5 years.
FoxesFan94 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Can people have a bit more respect for someone who's played 200 games for us and been a catalyst in what has been achieved in the last 5 years. Exactly. We would be back down in the Championship if it wasn't for Kasper.
Fox92 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Can people have a bit more respect for someone who's played 200 games for us and been a catalyst in what has been achieved in the last 5 years. 20 games or 200 games a player is still open to criticism. Exactly. We would be back down in the Championship if it wasn't for Kasper. No we wouldn't.
Fox Ulike Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 20 games or 200 games a player is still open to criticism. Yes, but given that yesterday he kept a clean sheet in a display that the Guardian described as “a series of inspired interventions”, do you really think that today is a good day to be slagging him off?
filbertway Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Yes, but given that yesterday he kept a clean sheet in a display that the Guardian described as “a series of inspired interventions”, do you really think that today is a good day to be slagging him off? Yep, it shows that you're a person that holds balanced rational views, rather than somebody who can go from loving to hating a player in the period of a game. I wouldn't say there has been any "slagging off" just people pointing out his flaws.

It's not "slagging him off" though is it, it's just pointing out points of his game he could improve. You rekon Manchester United fans haven't been doing the same to Rooney even though he's now their second highest goalscorer ever?
richardsfoxes Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Of course every player at leicester city has their flaws, that's why they are playing for us rather than real madrid. If Kasper was perfect you think he'd be playing at leicester no, criticism is fine but when you read comments like we should go out and replace him it makes me laugh, best keeper we've had in 20 years we wouldn't be able to sign a keeper better than kasper as all the of the top clubs would want him, Kasper is more than good enough for us, his strengths far out weigh his weaknesses in my opinion.

I wouldn't say there has been any "slagging off" just people pointing out his flaws. So OK, Kasper pulled off several outstanding saves last night, and was instrumental to arguably our best win of the season. His point blank save from Kane was described by the Guardian as the turning point in the game. Indeed, it might be the turning point of our season. If he hadn’t saved it we’d only be a point clear of Spurs in third, as it is, we’re joint top. But, what we really want to talk about today is why he isn’t better at dealing with crosses? If that's rational then I'd rather be a complete mentalist. When Vardy broke the record with his goal against Man United, were you on here asking why he doesn’t score more headers?
jch123 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I think some of the saves he makes are outstanding and i think he has been worth quite a lot of points for us this season. I think the only thing he needs to work on are his goal kicks, how many times does he kick it into touch? But apart from that he would get in any prem side in my eyes
gurru991 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Are you sure his style of play is not directed by our coaching staff, if they didn't like his long kicks he would be told to stop. Claudio does not give him free rein to play any style he likes ! I agree that we need a much younger backup who has the potential to take over at some point but Kasper is doing just fine for us right now. I suppose if Vardy goes another game without scoring then the posts will start that he needs to be replaced. Joint Number One on points .... Enjoy it

Exactly. It's all opinion. You think he's the best keeper we've had in 20 years, but I don't because I'd say Flowers and Walker were better than him.

Swiper Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 A lot of these criticisms are warranted but it's interesting that they are being brought up right after his best shot-stopping performance of the season, not to mention 3 clean sheets in league play in a row.

volpeazzurro Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Steady on. Better than Flowers, Walker and Fulop? He's nowhere near the standard of the first two that's for sure particularly Tim Flowers.
filbertstreet Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 if he could take a goal kick without it hitting row z he'd be top class
CharlieCharles Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 His distribution was that of league 2 standard. His shot stopping was that of the Champions league. Strange how a keeper can be so poor one minute and amazing the next, normally a keeper will have a good game or a bad game, kasper has moments.

I'd have Fraser Forster over Kasper if I'm honest now he's back fit and playing, you could make a case for Tim Krul being better than Kasper too
