Kasper Schmeichel

Being 6 foot tall probably makes it hard as its pretty short for a goalkeeper, so I assume he does work on it but due to his size he is never going to be coming 10 yards out and catching corners off the top of 6 foot 6 inches tall defenders heads!

If Kante could win more aerial balls he would be better. Why is it not worked on? He's 5ft 5 and will never be his game. Get it?

Silly post. Thing is he's got the advantage of using his arms which adds what? An extra couple of feet plus his jump, so he should be able to come out and take crosses off 6ft 6 attackers head quite comfortably. Kante is only 5 foot 6 so even with his jump is only going to be getting less than probably half a foot above his opponent even if they stand still.

The poor distribution thing is a total myth. If what you'd prefer is a keeper to aimlessly strike a ball up field and make half way consistently, you could take your pick from the semi-professional game.

Kasper picks his passes and does so with an impressive success rate. His angled kicks out of his hands are counter attack starters and his range is unrivalled in this league. The thing with his style of distribution is that the odd kick ends up going out of play, such is the low margin for error with his technique.

Unfortunately that's what the unobservant majority remember.

Pretty much bang on Nod. Anyone notice how he kicks to the wings alot when we are in winning situations? - buys points without cheating

He frustrates the hell out of me. He does some brilliant stuff a lot of the time, but then also makes some really, really poor decisions which leads to goals. I don't think he always commands the box and takes decisive action at set pieces like he should do. The amount of time he tries to be superman and misses completely. He needs to refine his game, but hes not a bad keeper at all.

This is pretty much spot on. But I love Kasper and rate him highly though. His passion, loyalty, spirit and eye for a quick counter attack are often overlooked. I also think he is class with the fans. For me, I'd only swap him for 3 or 4 other P/L keepers. But as Larry says, his decision making is often erratic and I still think both he, Huth & Morgan should sort out set pieces better. The recent Man Utd match pretty much sums him up regarding these points. He made Vardy's goal by taking a good catch from a corner and distributing it super quick to Fuchs. Their goal was because he didn't come out to claim the ball, and from memory, both corners were pretty much delivered to the same place.

Yes and no. Winning headers isn't an important part of a box to box midfielder's role. Catching crosses as a goal keeper is...

I take your point, but for me the difference was just a certain degree of added whip on the ball in the second corner, which understandably put enough doubt in his mind in those crucial first few split seconds to stop him from coming out. In hindsight yes he could have come and claimed it, but you see it so often in football these days that the swing of the ball deceives the keeper.

I'm speaking as a keeper myself who plays to a half decent standard. The amount of times I concede and the manager asks questions as to why the header's gone in unchallenged on or around my 6 yard box is frustrating to say the least. You know that as a rule it should have been yours, but you take your mind back to the ball coming in and you can see why you didn't come for it. Genuinely believe making that split-second decision is one of the hardest skills in football. All keepers, even the best in the world, get it wrong from time to time. I don't for a second believe Kasper gets it wrong often enough that we need to start thinking about alternatives, especially when you consider his strengths in other areas of his game.

Good shot stopper, decent at starting counter attacks. For a club like ours we won't do much better than Schmeichel (though Stoke have done well to have 2 class keepers in Begovic first and then Butland).

He does frustrate me a lot though. He will do something great and then something not so good, sometimes in the same game. Take the United game for example, he brilliantly distributes the ball quickly to Fuchs who then assists Vardy. But then for the United goal, the corner comes in and Schweinsteiger heads in from inside the 6 yard box. Yes, Okazaki failed to mark Schweinsteiger properly but it was a clear physical mismatch, so IMO Kasper should have collected that ball or punched it. It's inside the 6 yard box. Great keepers dominate their six yard box.

Another thing he has a habit of doing is tell everyone to go forward, put the ball on the ground and then kick it out for a throw in for the opposition. His kicking are hit and miss.

He used to have a howler in him occasionally but he appears to have cut that out of his game so I will give him credit for that.

By and large he has done well for us over the years but he does frustrate me sometimes.

It was interesting how few he came for against Man C, given the number of crosses and corners put in. And, of course, a clean sheet was the result.

I think it is an area that isn't as strong as other parts of his game (partly because he is small for a keeper), but how many have we conceded when Kasper has come for the ball and not got there, this season? I can't remember many, although I'm sure there must be a few.

That is the flipside of him not being aggressive on crosses. It is as much a tactical decision as anything else, and it tends to work well when you have CB's that are big, strong and good in the air (which we have).

It doesn't work so well when you are a side without much height, which we are.

Despite his faults, I think Kasper is a key part of our recent success. He shows great maturity and leadership skills and speaks very well when interviewed. Those who would replace him should be careful what they wish for I reckon. Let's also remember his old man is in the background and hopefully imparting all his knowledge and wisdom gained from numerous PL and CL winning sides. That experience alone is invaluable and could really help Kasper and the team during the run in this season. If I were the owners, I'd maybe even bring Peter in to the club in some sort of part time advisory, mental coaching capacity to help us push for a CL place this season - if he was up for it.

Great keeper but if only he would sharpen up a bit ...   or we bought someone who was better.    Just like the rest of them really ...   juuuust improve a little bit more ffs ! .....  or replace them.    If we did that we would be in a much better position in the Prem instead of languishing with Arsenal at the top.

this isn't a dig at him, more an observation. In fact only an observation - has he put on weight over past couple of months?

He gets angry if you compare him to his Dad. We could use that to our advantage, leading to him keeping a clean sheet in the rest of the games this season.

"You're nothing like your dad, he was better and had more cleeeean sheets"

Packing on solid bulk muscle! He's hench

He's not the perfect keeper by any means but I love his attitude and determination to win. Contrast that to the groups of players we've had before who've gone through the motions and not strived to be much better than mid-table in the Championship.

He's probably overrated but you can't blame the fans for liking someone so visibly keen to do well.

KS struggles in the shadow of his father - the last thing he needs is his dad at the club.

His Dad was 11/2 for the Managers job at one stage after NP was sacked. I don't remember Kasper coming out then and saying the last thing he needs is his Dad at the club.

Not sure what that has to do with the price of fish but I do know that he has come out in the media In the last few weeks saying he can't stand being compared to his father all the time and it makes him angry.
