Kasper Schmeichel

Made an absolutely world class save last night to stop Kane and was good shot stopping and in the air. Fantastic. However he needs to be spoken to about his distribution, his kicking over the last 3 games has been woeful.

Yesterday he had numerous opportunities to roll the ball out wide, but instead pushed everyone up the field and smashed it straight to their aerially dominant 3 (Dier, Vertonghen, Alderweireld) or worse straight out for a throw in. For some reason he goes through periods of senselessly kicking the ball long all the time. It puts the team under so much pressure as we instantly lose possession and struggle to get a foothold in the game.

Mahrez was calling for the ball on the right wing for a possible counter attack at 0-0 and Kasper told him to calm down, took 10 seconds and then smashed it to no one. Mahrez had a little pop at him which is right as it's pointless and detrimental to the team.

When he knocks it long we are looking for the second ball, really.

Having said that, I don't really like this approach being used all the time, because the opposition know what's coming. Mixing things up makes sense to me.

Are you sure his style of play is not directed by our coaching staff, if they didn't like his long kicks he would be told to stop. Claudio does not give him free rein to play any style he likes ! I agree that we need a much younger backup who has the potential to take over at some point but Kasper is doing just fine for us right now.

I suppose if Vardy goes another game without scoring then the posts will start that he needs to be replaced.

Joint Number One on points  .... Enjoy it

Same goes for coming for crosses, they will have talked about it, and CR must be comfortable with this approach, or he would tell them to change it.

How many times has a GK come for a cross and not got there this season, and left an open goal? A fair few, I'll bet. Well that isn't going to happen much to Kasper, but we will be Schwienstiegered a few times.

I remember this goalie called Seaman discussing this very issue, and he said he trusted his CB's, and that he was the last line of defence, not the first. Course he had very dominant CB's, but Wes and Huth are pretty strong too.

I think our approach would look less scary if we had more height in the side. Imho, that is our bigger problem, more than our relatively titchy goalie being reluctant to impose himself.

Vardy, Mahrez, oh all the other outfield players, are not good ENOUGH..get rid !!!

They make every single game anywhere from 5-20 mistakes, misses, bad, poor, misjudged passes.

Kasper Schmeichel is a SHOTSTOPPER, what dont you all understand about the word, shotstopper,

not a ballet dancer doing pirouettes around the penalty box, but a shotstopper.

No player is not replaceable, but our no1 goalkeeper, is a top goalkeeper. This position is the last priority, on the , must-have replacement list.

I've seen G.Banks, PShilton, Clemence, Jennings, Yes even the modern Great German goalkeepers,

dive over balls, let ones stupidly go between their legs.Mispunch, mis-time their jumps totally.

I like all fans football forums, but IMO too many fans go too far into detail, on players performances.

Years gone, players like Charlton, Banks, D.Law, G.Best etc X 1000s were never so scrutinised, as now.

Kasper for me is not a WC no1, but top International, and at present in the top 4 in the PL.

Waste of money and time looking for a replacement, for this season.

like all players on our books, he plays season to season, I see him continuing and performing well under the foxes emblem, for a few more yet.

If he plays like he did yesterday i.e. the saves and the clean sheet and the confident performance overall, then the kicking issue is secondary and really doesn't matter to me.

He's not the best in the league and he's not the worse either. He's plenty good enough for us.

Just wish he was a bit taller really. That's all..

You mean he would be great in Lord of the Rings, football league......

precious.. :)

Kasper is great for us. I love him in our goal. He is great with our fans too. I wish our fans on here would give him more credit.

OK, so he isn't Banks, Shilton, Wallington, Walker, Flowers, or even Keller. But..........

His passion and spirit for the club are obvious. He has been a key player for us since Sven signed him. He has improved a lot and has years left. There are only a handful goalkeepers I would have over him and I doubt any of those would come to Leicester City anyway.

I've watched a lot of football for over 50 years, and goalkeeping has changed a lot in those 50 years. Goalkeepers are much more seen as shot stoppers nowadays. They don't dominate like they used too.

Maybe it's the change in the ball, it's harder to catch, has more swerve, lighter, so easier to slip out of hands or drop, or maybe the players nowadays are more skillful with what they can put on the ball, but it's obvious to me that keepers don't dominate their area as they used to in the Shilton era, and that goes as much for the current keepers who I rate above Kasper.

Sure he makes mistakes, but don't they all? It's just that we see Kasper every week and we don't monitor the other keepers with such focus. I've seen mistakes from all the top keepers this season. Kasper doesn't make any more mistakes than the other top keepers.

As for corners, it is also the responsibility of the C/B's as it is the keeper, and I think Morgan and Huth could show more leadership and experience at set pieces. Morgan is our captain and has been awesome this season, but he should be as responsible for mistakes as Kasper at corners.

Kasper's distribution is often poor, but he is also the start of our counter attacks, which can be devastating. This was proved in our goal against Man Utd and has been shown in several other matches over the years. So do we ask him to roll the ball out? It is not our way to play from the back and it doesn't fit our current style of play, so I think what he does is correct, albeit not as good as it could be and he should be working very hard to improve this.

Height? He's listed at 6'1''. That's the same as Shilton and Banks (good enough for me!), he's taller than Wallington, and only an inch shorter than Walker, Flowers and Keller.

I would like to see a better back up though. All players need to be kept on their toes, and although I really believe Kasper gives everything for us in every match, he knows he will be in the side next match whatever mistakes he makes, and that needs addressing. If only to cover for injury or suspension.

I wish he was a baller.

Kasper's a pretty decent goalie, but we can do better. There's no room for sentiment.

Who do you reckon we should sign then Nads?

Just saying, Hart, De Gea, Courtois and Begovic have also looked suspect this year on a number of occasions. Only keeper in the league that's been consistently good with no real mistakes is Butland

I'd like us to try and get Valdes. How realistic that is I don't know, but it would be magic if we had a goalie like that.

Who ever it is, we really do need another goalie in who could fight for the position/back up in this window. If Kasper gets injured and is out for a month or two, we can kiss goodbye to a top 4 spot with our back ups.

I don't know where people get off on slagging our goalkeeper off after the clean sheet and defensive strides we have made lately.

Yes, his two weaknesses are control of his 6 yard box and his distribution.

But his work in the 6 yard box has actually improved lately (he is punching a few more rather than only coming out if he is confident he can catch it).

His distribution is vital in getting us up the pitch, gaining territory (rather than faffing about trying to pass through midfield for 2 minutes) and setting up counter attacks. Remember that he is probably on orders to do this, and that he is aiming at midgets.

Nevertheless, he can improve a bit more. He is hitting his peak and is a massive character in the squad.

Yes we can improve on him, and we do need to replace Schwarzer. But to improve on him we would probably need to go and buy a world class keeper... Like one of the top 7 or 8. Chances are that won't happen.

We'd all love a world class keeper obviously given our league position but these boys have taken us to where we are as a unit. One day Kasper will be replaced by someone better but lets not be too harsh on who is and has been a very good keeper for LCFC.

I for one would be very happy if he stayed our number 1 for another 10 years. Quality Keeper and poor distribution is a myth.

He bangs it up and we are playing for the second ball. That's our style...That's what he's told to do. We don't have big 6ft 6 strikers up there waiting so he's not going to knock it onto their head every time he kicks it. However...9 times out if 10 we are looking for the second ball. Sometimes you just don't know how good something is till its gone. Many teams in the Premiership would make him their number 1 in a flash.

Kasper has done & is doing a wonderful job for City but some of our fans  seem to think we've outgrown him !!  We are a long way from Europe so don't get carried away just yet. People are talking about Joe Hart & De Gea.  Crazy Talk    We are not there yet so lets dance with the ones who brought us.

Up there behind Flowers and Walker for me. But not to far behind!

Kasper remains how he's always been. He's not changed.

His distribution can either be unbelievable or hopeless. Aerially he's always been suspect (he's just a little too short) but as a shot stopper...superb.

You don't get to joint top of the most competitive division on the planet with a poor goalkeeper. As with King, I've never quite believed the stick he gets from some.

Assisted the assist for the Okazaki goal from a gosl kick. No keeper in the league has a bigger kick.
