Sol thewall Bamba Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 Smokescreen, gotta be. Remember when NP said we gave up on signing Ulloa and then a few days later he was holding the shirt?
Guest MattP Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 Don't believe this for one minute, just keeping his cards close to his chest. I'm not someone who believes January business is a good thing, but no way will we not have a go at this, we'll never ever be in a better position to qualify for the Champions League than we are now.

Our position could catapult us into a situation we might never see ourselves in again!
FantasticMrFuchs Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 does it say Callum McManaman is a possible target? was 1 link back in dec, highly unlikely after grays arrival.
filbertway Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 Probably going to wait till the end of the season before judging this.
les-tah Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 To be fair to Dodoo he ran rings round a strong West Ham side in the league cup... i'm not saying he's a starter or anything, but certainly an option. Didn't watch the game but did Dodoo really run rings around people or did he just score a goal? in other terms was that an exaggeration or could anyone else confirm this?
LAprice_ Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 I'd only buy someone if a.) they were not massively overpriced and b.) they'd walk straight into our starting 11. I can't think of anyone. The January transfer window is horrible. Occasionally a great player comes along, like Mahrez but more often than not it's an unnecessary gamble, like Kramaric. All Ranieri is doing is refusing to be lured into the transfer circuses that other clubs fall for.

I know we've been good this year but that seems a bit bold

ramadaone Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 Perhaps the important word here is TRANSFER Does a loan class as a transfer ? Does a loan class as transfer business ? Just a thought On a different note Dodoo is not first team squad material but a spate of injuries might see him being involved if needs must
Gerard Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 Didn't watch the game but did Dodoo really run rings around people or did he just score a goal? in other terms was that an exaggeration or could anyone else confirm this? He was out of his depth but scored a goal.

I know we've been good this year but that seems a bit bold I can't think of anyone that wouldn't be well over-priced. Mesut Ozil would get in this team but would we pay £200,000 a week, plus a £60 million transfer fee to lure him here? No. I'm talking about realistic signings. You could argue that Troy Deeney would work well behind Vardy but could you imagine how much it would cost to lure him away from Watford? Bet it's at least £15 million. Then people want us to sign injury prone players. Like Charlie Austin.

foxes21 Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 Don't think Deeney will ever leave Watford as long as they are in the prem
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 If you consider hopefully that Inler and Benalouane stay and fill in when needed, I think we're OK. Improvements needed in many areas for next season mind (esp if we are in Europe). A right back as good as Fuchs for example... What we can't do, in my eyes, is have too big an overhaul. Look at Hull - who got into Europe after the cup final, and brought in a lot of new players - too much change, couldn't integrate them all and went down. As Claudio says 'slowly, slowly'. Rudkin et al, and whoever else is in a strategic position aren't daft.
Thracian Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 Bony might be a better bet - albeit more expensive - if we could get him. He's always seemed a bit of a poacher and excellent at laying the ball into runners' feet. Able to work back a bit too. Don't think we should give up on Austin either. Deeney's good but seems a bit limited to me.

Deeney's good but seems a bit limited to me. Funny how people see football differently. If we had a choice of the two, I'd take Deeney. Bony seems to sulk. Needs to be the star at a football club. Deeney on the other hand works like a trojan. Him and Ighalo contribute for each other and Deeney seems to chase everything down. It won't happen but Deeney would have always been a good signing for City. Again, I think he would 'fit'.
Guest MattP Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 I agree on Deeney, would take him like a shot. I thought Pearson was getting it wrong when he bid 7million for him, would have been a bargain in hindsight.

hackneyfox Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 Was told before Christmas that we'd agreed to pay 12m for Deeney (apparently this came from someone at watford). Now assuming it's not true or he would have signed already.

With regards to Bony needing to be a star I've just said the same in conversation to my son and how if affected him to suddenly become an also-ran. But Vardy benefitted in the same way once he became established and I'm quite sure a manager as astute as Ranieri could bring the best out of him - or Austin for that matter. I've nothing against Deeney but just don't think he has the mobility to offer quite so much even if he was available which Bony (and Austin) might be.

He doesn't need to be very quick anyway. That's not his game. He's a target man really who uses his strength and his size (unit) to shield it and bring others in. He's also a food finisher. I'd sign Deeney in a heartbeat but it won't happen of course. Ighalo is the one though.

Bob Weasel Fox Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 I can't find the link but he was quoted the other day as saying (paraphrasing) that they weren't actively pursuing anyone but if something came up that they were interested in then there could follow it up. Pearson used to say all this sort of stuff it's gamesmanship to keep prices down suggesting that we're not desperate. ThisI hope
