ThingsCouldGetMessi Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 Thought he had a good solid debut. I understand RB is not his natural position (prefers CB, DM or CM) but he did a good job there. With the amount of positions he can play along with the plaudits I have seen before he joined us, I think he will prove to be a great investment.
Rincewind Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 Thought he had a decent game. A bit shaky to start with but improved as the game went on.
shen Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 Blimey... Really? 21 Big money move Only played in Scandanavia Gets told he's staring for his new team who are competing to win the league for the first time in their history That's a big ask in my opinion! Rashford, 18, making his unexpected debut as a lone striker against Midtjylland, in a game that Man United need to win to save a terrible season, is arguably a baptism of fire. As Ranieri and the players say, there is no pressure in our current situation. Any pressure is positive. Yes, he's young and he came for a decent amount of money (not that this counts for anything), but he's played in front of big crowds before and he has a decent amount of experience from high-pressure European competitions too. If he was put straight in for a relegation six-pointer, that would've been a different story, but I really do not see it as being a baptism of fire, sorry!
Guest LCFC_World Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 Decent today, felt he was a little negative at times though, passing it backwards a lot. He did his job though and helped the team keep a clean sheet.
WesMorganGod Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 Yup he kept passing back too much, especially to Kasper. He doesn't have the energy of Simpson, we missed Simpson today I felt.
StanSP Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 Looked a bit shaky and nervous at the start but grew in to the game. Some encouraging signs but if RB is not his natural position he's done quite well. Certainly done his part for the clean sheet.
StanSP Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 Yup he kept passing back too much, especially to Kasper. He doesn't have the energy of Simpson, we missed Simpson today I felt. I'd rather this than aimlessly give the ball away. In fact some fans around me pissed me off just because midfielders passed it back to defence or defence back to goal-keeper. We kept possession. Norwich couldn't get the ball which means they can't score. Definitely prefer possession of the ball as opposed to having to try to win it back.

I admit I was getting frustrated with the constant passing back too, because the time was going and we was struggling to create much. I think Amartey is much more suited to CB or DM, not RB, he doesn't have the electric pace or build for a RB. But there is no way he is gonna play in CB or DM unless there is a injury. He was passing back too much for my liking too Kasper and Morgan and Huth, but I think that was because he was nervous as its his first start.
old koppite Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 Thought he did well- will only get better as he settles in
Benji Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 Felt the back passing was more him not wanting to make a mistake and playing it safe, what with starting his first game n'all. Likes to get forward and pretty solid - I thought Brady was great against West Ham and that he'd cause us a lot of problems today, but Amartey was solid enough. Simpson deserves to come back in on Tuesday but certainly not concerned about Amartey being back-up.
Len Finsbury Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 He had a nervous start and looked like he was either trying too hard or concentrating on not making a mistake. Although a baptism of fire is an overstatement, he is coming into an incredibly settled side that he hasn't played with or trained much alongside. It'll take him a while to get to know our tactics as they've evolved over the season - the players are all very familiar with it. He needs matches, or at least to be involved more. We did miss Simpson today, not necessarily because of his blinding ability but because he knows the system.
glenelgfox Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 First up performance not too shabby and looks like he has an attacking intent but needs to learn to select some his passes more carefully but that will come with game time. He looks a good longer term prospect.
Livid Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 Give him time. Was surprised by his physique from the YouTube clips I just got the impression he was a bit more of a beast.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 27 February 2016 Posted 27 February 2016 Thought he did well, especially considering he is new. I thought he looked more concerned with his defensive duties than going forward, but I think that was the smart move. Simpson doesn't offer much going forward, so it was a like-for-like performance. The sprint down the right wing on 42 minutes had me purring. Didn't get the ball, I think, but looked a bit like Schlupp. I don't think his acceleration is as good, but when he gets going he is rapid. And his passing looks pretty tidy, as I'm sure he will improve on today, when he settles in. Also liked the way he kept it simple , as I was worried before the game about him trying too hard to impress.

Of all the attributes to question you are calling him out on his physique and pace?!
WesMorganGod Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Of all the attributes to question you are calling him out on his physique and pace?! Simpson is a lot quicker in my opinion, where I am seated the first 45 mins I get to see the RB a lot and Simpson just looks a lot quicker. but this was his start so need to see more.
Brainy Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Someone whip that video out where he wins the penalty
yag101 Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 To everyone moaning about the constant passing back, don't blame the players. Do you think they'd like to do that constantly? Norwich used our own tactic against us, sitting deep and forcing us to have the ball in non-dangerous areas, giving us 'too much' of the ball. It was a really tough game but a masterclass on tactical substitutions from Ranieri. He's a football genius.

Well, you have a better view than most, so fair play. Acceleration and flat-out pace are 2 different things, so maybe that is part of it. Simpson is also pretty clever at getting the most out of what he has, on this seasons evidence.
FireFox Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 I said I was worried before, but he did fine for playing in his least/third preferred position. And we didn't concede. I doubt he is our permanent 2nd choice RB though, I expect someone in the summer unless RDL comes back.
SpinneyHillRanger Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 he didn't complete 90 mins but he was solid from what i saw. Looks like he will come good. ANd i'm sure will be beastly once he gains more confidence with his team mates and plays his preferred midfield role
FoxesFan94 Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Looked good. Nervous (obviously), but good.
Grewks Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 The fact that he probably touched the ball more than any1 in the 1st half says it all. No worse than fuchs today imo.
RowlattsFox Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 I thought he did ok, don't remember him getting caught out defensively too much and wasn't afraid to have the ball. Did pass back often but he never had much on. Did have flash backs to John pantsil at right back though.
Filbert_Ross Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 I thought he was solid. Kept things simple, which was the best way for his debut.
