A bit of car p0rn happening near me. Fella across the road has suddenly produced these outside his house.

Anyone know much about these - years, value, rarity, etc

The two cars in your photo are Lotus Elite (Type 75/83) shooting brake–style sports cars, built by Lotus Cars between 1974 and 1982.

Identification

  • Left car: Earlier Lotus Elite (Type 75, built 1974–1980).
    • Squarer rear styling, smaller bumpers.
  • Right car: Later Lotus Elite (Type 83, built 1980–1982).
    • Slightly revised bumpers, smoother detailing.

About the model:

  • Engine: 2.0L Lotus 907 inline-4 (later versions with 912 engine).
  • Layout: Front-engine, rear-wheel drive, 4-seat shooting brake (estate coupe).
  • Noted for its distinctive wedge styling by Oliver Winterbottom.

Approximate age:

These cars are about 43–50 years old today.

Market value (2025):

Values vary a lot depending on condition:

  • Project/non-running: £5,000–£8,000
  • Usable driver condition: £10,000–£15,000
  • Well-restored / excellent: £20,000–£30,000+

They’re relatively rare, with under 3,000 made in total, so enthusiasts do prize them—but they don’t command the same money as the Lotus Esprit.

Chat GPT is handy for this sort of stuff.

Saved your picture as a photo then upload it to Chat GPT and ask what cars are these, year, value, rarity etc.

Answers came back in a matter of seconds.

Yeah, to be fair, I assumed it wasn't all your own work :D

At the tender age of 36 I have my very first (and hopefully last) driving test in the morning. I'm absolutely bricking it even though I know I'm a good driver. Just hope I don't do anything stupid or mess up the show me/tell me things

I do the same thing with my wife's facial reactions. Unfortunately chatgpt could not computate and told me to make a run for it.

Anyone know much about the Motability Scheme? I think I'll be eligible for the higher rate mobility side of PIP and thinking about using it on a car through motability, but not really sure how it all works

I think this steps you through how to qualify and apply.

Yeah I've read through the website, I was more kind of hoping there might be people on here who have been through the process and could give me some real world insight into what's involved.

Sort of car related.

My daughter turns 17 tomo6 and wants driving lessons.

We have her provisional  license and I want to give her a few lessons just starting the car, biting point, moving off and stopping.

Ideally we will go to a car park early one weekend.

Should I get her insured as a named driver( already got my Mrs as a named driver so can you have two?) on my insurance just incase?

( we won't practice if anyone or any cars are nearby)

I believe that the only way that your daughter could drive without insurance is on private land not accessible to the public.  A car park, although it's private land, is accessible to the public so she would have to be insured to drive the car.

It's a long time since I learned to drive (initially on private land) so please check the current situation.

You can get learner insurance for her added to the policy. We did it with ours, it wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be

Just did live chat with my insurance company and the price goes from £150 to £600 adding my daughter!!!!!

Collingwood who are learner driver specialists quoted £250 for her own insurance for the year!

Its absolutely crazy that mine is so much just to add a learner

the new BMW IX3 and the Mercedes GLC look like they could be gamechangers.

I'm likely to be ordering a new Company Car by the end of the year and I strongly suspect one of those two will be on my list,  I will have to regularly travel to Norfolk from Leicester, and the "suggested" range of 500 miles or above is a bit of a milestone for EV's.

I've been wanting to get a decent sized SUV, especially now we've got a Dog in the mix as well as two adult sized Kids but range was always a deal breaker on those bigger cars.

Excited for these!

Looking at test driving a few EV's, lease on company car coming to and end (Tesla M3) so far going to test drive the Audi A6 etron, MG IM6, Tesla Model Y performance, would test drive a polestar 4 but nearest is Solihull so CBA. May test drive the mercedes CLA electric for the ridiculous range on offer. Anybody own a larger EV than a model 3 that they absolutely love and would recommend?

I'm always wary about these types of so called "quick wins" to claw in funds because whilst the the headline states "UK could raise nearly 2bn....." who will then buy these vehicles thus missing out on the larger than normal car tax from original purchase along with potential closures of Land Rover & like minded plants in the UK due to lack of sales & lost investment in the UK.

But what's really happening here which they have hidden in plain sight is they are aware that with electric cars they are going to be losing huges sums of funds through fuel & emission taxes & notice in the report they are saying these SUVs harm the roads more because they are heavier than a 'standard' car & therefore should pay more....well surprise surprise an electric car is heavier than its equivalent petrol/diesel car due to its battery size which will probably only get heavier in the near future before there is a break-thru in tech & thus are they spinning it as a SUV heavy tax to set up the same thing for all new electric cars?
