foxinsocks Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 He could be a good player but when he receives the ballout wide he controls it and the passes it back.... thereby slowing us down. He needs to take a tip from schlup and play it forward and hare after it.... this terrifies the defence. His keeness to cut inside onto his right foot is too predictable. . . Imo he is not a starter.... yet....
erlee Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 i would take Gray over Amartey any time.. Amartey is very timid with the ball unlike Gray ..the moment he gets the ball - he looks to offload usually to the side or backwards. I am not sure where Amartey's best position is.. Gray would suit the left wing best but that's where Schlupp is too.

Fox92 Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 He probably knows we signed far too many attacking players. Gray was slightly ball greedy at Hull but at least he got the ball down and ran at them, even won the penalty from that. If we're not careful his progression will stagnate and he'll end up wanting to leave. All this potential at Birmingham where he played every week, comes here and has to compete with Albrighton, Kapuska, Schlupp, Musa - how many do we want for one position.

We're playing two games a week for pretty much as long as we remain in three active competitions now. He will get game time, might even get a decent run tomorrow, and will start next week against Chelsea. Calm down

Wymsey Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 He has the potential to be like Sterling. Skilful, pacey but the finishing and crosses let him down. But still only a kid though. Not sure whether Kapuska will have a big role here or not.

It's criminal we didn't invest in a right back to push Simpson for a first spot, never mind having no real cover for him. Would have liked to have seen a young (20-24 year old) centre back to come in and push Huth/Morgan for a starting spot. Feels like we missed a good opportunity to evolve the squad. On Demi, I hope he gets plenty of game time here, as well as Chillwell. The plus side of not being a top side in the league means we can progress our good youngsters without the pressure of a title challenge preventing them from getting game time.
crazyleicester Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 He`ll be fantastic for us in future seasons and Im delighted we havent punted him out on loan as he will get some game time this season no doubt. As fans we have to be realistic though and understand he is a different type of player to Albrighton. Gray is very direct but he is also very selfish as a player. He stretches defences and goes for goal and sometimes isnt looking for his team mates where Albrighton is more likely to cut back and cross it in to our midget strikers. What we did well last season was to pick up the second ball from his crosses and we were causing damage from that. I have no doubt Gray will frustrate when he delays things but he can do great things for us playing from the right when his natural inclination is to dribble and cross. I just dont see him playing in the same team as Mahrez so often. Maybe he can replace him when Mahrez needs resting or is unavailable, like the AFCON for example.

In Claudio I trust, but you have to wonder when that is. Against Man Utd, it might be inadvisable. Against Burnley we have to get a win, so we'll need our top players there. If Claudio decides to field a weakened team against Brugge and we lose, he'd alienate the supporters and the owners. I'm glad I'm not the manager. Maybe in the second half of the season if we're stuck in 10th place, and we're not going to get drawn into a relegation battle or qualify for Europe, but in reality that's not going to happen.

I'd just grow a pair and play them. They're not going to improve if you don't give them game time. It's not like these are lads that are being promoted to cover an injury crisis. These are potentially top young players.

If Kaputska, Gray and Chilwell were at all ready for the first team, then they would be there, that's what I think.

Guest Col city fan Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 What is erlee on about? Amartey and Gray are two entirely different types of player. It's like comparing Tommy Wright with Brian Carey...
Manwell Pablo Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 Tbf I'd definitely take Jeff Schlup Over Danny Cipriani IMO. Better footballer.

With the sheer amount of games we have you have to expect their will be rotation. I just hope that they're not given the odd cup game and remain largely forgotten about.
