Has the Premier League title ever been decided by poor refereeing before?

Hi All,
Perhaps someone can refresh my memory but I'm thinking of past teams that have been in a winning position, only to let it slip during the run-in. Usually, there's a game that is considered "pivotal" to the collapse. But I'm wondering, in all or any of those instances, was it down to the team in pole position (before the match) being on the receiving end of poor refereeing, then capitulating or simply playing poorly themselves and deservedly losing?

I'm thinking of Newcastle in 1996, United in 2012, Liverpool in 2014, etc...

I don't know where I'm trying to go with this!!.... But I guess, should it be that the versions of those teams that ultimately blew it, did so by their own hand - Not that of an over zealous ref, and the FA subsequently punishing an integral player with a ban for one or more matches - It might stand us in good stead, psychologically, to push on and clinch the title.

Thoughts?

If we blow it from here it won't be because of poor refereeing.

Even after yesterday's shambles you've still got to say we've done pretty well out of referees this year - not much blatantly unfair in our favour but (for a change) not much blatantly unfair in the opposition's favour either.

Oh for gods sake everyone grow up. There was a couple bad decisions. Every team suffers from bad decisions. Sometimes two teams in the same match...

We're eight points clear as it stands. We have a great manager and a team with proven spirit and resolve. We're gonna win this league!

Just for a bit of balance, all the West Ham fans I know feel extremely hard done by for the ref and don't really see many reasons for us to complain.

I was saying that at work this morning. When both sets of fans complain about the ref, then you know he's had a howler!

Probably not and definitely NOT happening this season !!

I'm leaning towards this. Hopefully, the lads can keep their heads and just concentrate on what they've been doing for 95% of the season! I seem to recall Liverpool for instance were leaking goals all over the place, several games before the Chelsea loss and even then, Man City had a game in hand, which they won. After tonight, Spurs won't have that luxury and will probably still be 5 points behind. Also, seem to remember Chelsea and City were in much better form 2 seasons ago so Liverpool had pressure from 2 teams, not one.

Yet another embrassing thread title.

We're acting like we're the only team to ever have a game not go their way due to refereeing decisions.

OK, it's a poor thread title, I'll admit. I'm not trying to play the self-important, "woe is me" but morally superior card. But I'm just wondering about those past teams that blew it, whether it was down to simply poor play on their part, or external influence?

That I could probably live down.... Eventually!! But, should Vardy miss 2 games and we come unstuck, we'll never know for sure how it might have panned out, and that will be a killer...

I'm now thinking Ranieri's approach of "one game at a time" is more crucial than ever...

You're acting like we've not been given the rub of the green quite a bit.

There's been numerous 50/50s in terms of refereeing decisions that have gone our way and this is the first game that has really gone against us.

Lets grit our teeth and give our best for the lads next week because god knows they need us to roar them over the line.

Then put your comments in an existing thread.

The eyes of the world are on us right now, a fair few have been popping into Foxestalk wishing us well and then at the first sign of trouble we make ourselves look like twats.

There have been far bigger injustices in football with much more magnaminus reactions. Hate to say it but we're acting like the Manchester United fans of their glory years and that was one of the reasons I was proud to be a Leicester Fan - that despite lots of shit coming our way, the majority didn't over react.

It won't affect it this season, hopefully a distraction from the nerves, and motivate the players to go out and win it, a big two fingers up to moss, and the powers that be

This 'poor us' attitude on here is becoming irritating.

We've had the benefit of some dodgy decisions this season...including yesterday.

Yes.

There's a reason they call extra extra time pulled out of the arse of the officials "FergieTime."

And it has nothing to do with the Black Eyed Peas.

The ref had a bad day. Most agree on that. But he is not to blame for Vardy taking a dive when he was on a yellow. Nor is he to blame to Vardy's aggressive reaction to being sent off. In fact the ref's continued "bad day" worked in our favour when he gave us a penalty at the end.

I still think we will win it. It is a bit early to say he "cost us the title".

By the way I'm not having a go at Vardy. I'm sure he feels gutted about what happened. But the extra game(s) ban he is about to receive is entirely his own fault.

Losing your best player for 2-3 games plus the West Ham game at the end of the season during a title race does not seem common to me.

I don't think being extremely pissed at Moss and feeling hard done by and understanding that we have been fortunate on a fair share of refereeing decisions are mutually exclusive.

Moss's performance yesterday (for both teams) was completely abominable, and given it's not the first time he's fu**ked us over, oh yeah, I'm mad.

But Vardy exacerbated the problem and nothing we can do about that now.
