Strokes Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Same reason we switched from 5 at the back end of the year before. Sometimes something else is better. Don't think we'll switch instantly but certainly offers another decent option and something people won't expect. Having variables is important if we plan to challenge in all competitions, we can pretty much cover four formations using 14 players, so one match day team. We have seen how Ranieri can adapt the plan during the match and having players that can play in two or more positions is great. We really just need the Okazaki role strengthened and we have a very strong adaptable squad, really happy if this gets sealed.
Xen Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 I can see 4-3-3 being used much more next season. Mendy, Kante and Drinkwater. Mahrez, Vardy and Musa. No one will ever get through that defensive midfield, no one will ever get around it either because the wingers are just too quick and will get back and help, and once we're on the front foot (especially on the counter) that's a lethally quick and sharp-shooting attacking trio. Damn.
W88DY Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 As I said, I've seen nothing to suggest we are actually after him. That's just him telling the world he wants to join. We have conversations with clubs about players all the time without actively seeking to sign them. He`s coming !
SpinneyHillRanger Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 442 without the ball, defending, 443 when attacking
FireFox Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Imagine taking corners against us and you see Vardy, Musa, and Mahrez on the halfway line.
MC Prussian Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 442 without the ball, defending, 443 when attacking Provided Kanté stays with us.
WigstonWanderer Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 442 without the ball, defending, 443 when attacking Definitely win the league again with that attacking formation
Guest Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 He`s coming ! If only I'd kept quiet a couple of days longer....
Lesteban Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Looks done. We will terrify teams on the counter even more now. Lovely stuff.
TMELcfc Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 https://twitter.com/bluearmy/status/749863165991804928 Looks done. We will terrify teams on the counter even more now. Lovely stuff. Against the bigger clubs maybe, doubt teams will be stupid enough to allow that to happen after last season... Sit deep with loads behind the ball and try to counter us.
KFS Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Against the bigger clubs maybe, doubt teams will be stupid enough to allow that to happen after last season... Sit deep with loads behind the ball and try to counter us. Enter Riyad, Dimmy, Marc and Leo
Babylon Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Against the bigger clubs maybe, doubt teams will be stupid enough to allow that to happen after last season... Sit deep with loads behind the ball and try to counter us. Teams have to attack at some point.
Realist Guy In The Room Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Teams have to attack at some point. This. Regardless of how a team sets up against us, at some point they will either have to want to win or need to win. The only way to achieve that is to attack and when they do.............. Woe betide them all.
Babylon Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 I wonder why you believe that things are going to be different this season? Nineteen teams had two opportunities to work out how to counter City's play - two teams managed to beat them - nine managed draws. Given that this run started at the back end of 2014-2015 these other teams were either stupid or arrogant (or both) not to be aware of what was going on at Belvoir Road. That's exactly what many were. If was only the last third we saw teams really start to change their style, we still won but things were a lot closer and teams sitting much deeper. I think we need to go into the season expecting respect from the start, expecting teams to play like that from the off. If they don't then great, more fool them. But I think it would be wise to plan for it, that's why I advocated a Ben Arfa type who can unlock defences. We need a bit more of the magic Mahrez has, he's often the key in those sorts of games, but we can't play him all year.
Babylon Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 I also am wondering why Gökhan Inler is still in the squad - maybe there is the thinking that he may yet prove invaluable should there be those significant transfers out.? Interesting times at City - as ever. Probably because he's not been sold yet. Until we get a taker for him, he'll be here.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 looking forward to speed and workrate. love the signing. We could be in for an interesting season again hopefullyPace and quality equals goals Up the Foxes
Realist Guy In The Room Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 We're on the verge of being unstoppable. If Kante stays for one more year, I can see us winning something else.
dpjfox Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 I know he wont be going to the ACON i also thought he had been omitted from the olympic squad, but today i read somewhere hes included as an over age player . If true how much if any of the season will he miss?
Babylon Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 A prima facie conclusion, naturally. Yet I've heard no gossip about interest in him - have you? He would make an attractive target for many European teams. It might be, of course, that his salary at City is of prime consideration. However no elite player seeks to play at a level beneath his capability or accepts sporadic playing opportunities - unless money is, for some reason, of critical importance to him. And, also, clubs who've lost interest in players but are finding them reluctant to leave, usually apply covert pressure to move them along. Moving into the European challenge, I'd imagine that Claudio is aware of the radical strategic and tactical problems which will be facing him when pitting City against teams with differing approaches to play. As long as the finances can bear an extended squad I see negligible implications- especially if City experience success concomitant with expectation. There will be interest, but it won't be an easy deal to strike. Leicester will want his wages off the books, other clubs will know that and will try and wangle it so that we continue to pay him some of it. Would strike me as one of those deals that will be cat and mouse until near the close of the window. He's not going to write off the money we're paying him, certainly not a huge amount anyway. I just don't see Ranieri trusting a player he clearly never trusted last season to produce the goods.

A club might be prepared to pay him whatever he's getting now because there is no transfer fee.
