Don't think it's because of Walsh leaving.

Take away Everton, Man City and United this has been a pretty quite summer. The majority of teams have only made 2/3 signings.

we have been pretty active compared and think we have done well, we seem to have got targets early to settle the team and not panic buy - I think we will spend big on 2/ maybe 3 players in last week as we've had time to assess and think generally will be more movement as teams panic buy and players force moves.

Euros, Copa and olympics have got in the way this year.

There was an article last week I think where a reporter had talked to a few clubs and seemed to think there had been quite a change in attitude from foreign clubs this summer. They are now demanding ludicrous amounts and aren't even budging on valuations.

I think people are taking @st albans fox a bit too seriously... it seemed clear he wasn't implying he's now going to get sacked anytime soon. Just that if he's the one calling all the shots, ultimately it will be him who gets the flack if they don't work.

That's fair enough. But it's funny you know, language is a nuanced thing, and people write stuff in certain ways and have to expect that the way they express themselves to be scrutinized, otherwise misunderstanding becomes rife - it's why I get narked about the (seemingly universal) habit of people writing statements, then suffixing them with a question mark, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

That's true - probably not the best of examples as he is the games biggest penny pincher but Wenger said something similar few weeks ago too. Why wouldn't they either in all fairness? English clubs have more money than sense so why allow them to buy for cheap?

I think it has been a pretty stagnant market so far as a whole, even the likes of Real, Barca and PSG haven't really spent ridiculous amounts.

I do think they'll be a lot more movement this week as clubs move players on and players push for moves. I'll be suprised if we have a few fringe players by the end of the window.

Bloody typical of that Walsh bloke, following us around and trying to sign every player we show an interest in lol

That's probably because we p**s around too much trying to sign someone.

Vichai says they have given Claudio money to spend....but are we going to spend it? This is getting frustrating.

We saw in January (when we all assumed another striker was a must) we will only spend if we can get the players we want. I don't see us panick buying. And I don't see us just going for a marquee signing just to please fans either. The players we target have to have certain qualities and attributes that have made our team so hard to break down last season (especially after restructuring the back 4).

Having said that there are a few we've been linked with and this player is one of them that I would love us to sign because I think he would fit in nicely and offer us the type of player we now need.

I have a suspicion we won't see any more signings. I hope I'm wrong as we desperately need a cm and probably a striker

Was thinking the same thing far to quite on the incoming front and you know it takes is far too long to get deals over the line

We have, but we have also sold about £37 million worth of players too.

No it doesn't () but it does come in the form of about £100 million of TV rights and about £30 million for being in the group stages of the champions league.  I don't think we should go crazy but net spend I believe we have spent less than last summer. We are only a couple of players light. CM if Mendy is out for any period of time and a right back.

I'm only playing devils advocate really. I do know what you mean and if it were up to me I'd have Top writing a cheque to chuck at a side with a bastard of a defensive midfielder.

I don't understand the people who want us to go out and sign names for 30m just because though. We won the league on a shoestring. I'd much rather our scouts find a player with the right attributes and mentality to fit into our squad rather than "Lets sign Joe Bloggs from so and so because he's an international and he scored a well good goal in the champions league a few years ago".

One player on 90k a week on a 4 year contract is about £19m commitment, before you even talk about the fee. Lets say it's £20m... it's nearly a £40m outlay over the course over his contract. Add in the players we've already signed, all the extra contracts we're handing out left right and centre and it soon starts to spiral.

Spot on.

We've supposedly handed out 100k contracts to four players this summer an all.

But surely it's about the total value of the players. For example, Mahrez is worth £50M minus what we have paid for him, minus what we have paid him, with a consideration of what we will pay him. Bottom line is we are well in profit with him. The same would apply to most of our squad. If you are going to calculate the cost, you must calculate the re-sale value as well.

Thats still 'only' 5m extra per person per year x 4 is about 20m per year and thats not even half the extra tv money.... i'd also be interested to know how much we have earnt from that crappy champions cup..
