Milik - CF from Ajax

Recommended Posts

Okay, my bad, I've never heard of Comte. I just assumed the new Chelsea manager had been appointed and it had passed me by.

It's not the first time some rogue thought has embarrassed me.

Don't get me excited, please don't. He is my dream signing this summer.

Mine as well. I'd be chuffed to bits if we signed him.

From one of my colleagues:

Great left foot, very bad right foot. If he gets a chance with his left, hard to stop him. Overall good player, fitting for PL I'd say. In Holland he gets critique on not being the best striker to play the ball to, but I guess that's less of an issue in PL, where they just look at your ability to score

I've watched him quite a lot since his Ajax debut and have to say his right foot improved considerably during last season or two, at least he's not a one foot striker anymore. It will probably never be as good as his right but truly two-footed players are extremely rare.

Ajax's style (or lack of) doesn't suit him at all imo, yet he still managed to bag 23 goals in 2015/16 season.

@Chester Dontlie or @Górnik Leicester, what are you guys' views on Milik?  Good signing for us (does he have the pace and work rate - I know he has a cannon of a left foot) and do you think it would be likely?

Sorry I've been a little busy lately.

In my opinion Milik would be a perfect fit for Leicester. He definitely has the pace. Not sure if he's as quick as Vards mind you, but would easily outpace Shinji not to mention Leo. His young age (22) is another plus. Leicester will need young strikers in the coming seasons as Vards and Leo will soon get on the wrong side of 30 (Okazaki already is). Signing another experienced player is perfectly fine but some of them are really overpriced imho. That Slimani lad, qualit no doubt and would be best buds with Mahrez but he's not that young (27) and £25m looks a bit steep.

Milik's workrate is good, especially in national team. He would have to learn the Leicester way of playing, no doubt. At Ajax he's a bit of square peg in the round hole there, a target man surrounded by midfielders who are seem to be more interested in shooting (and missing) or dribbling than assisting. Still he's proved time and time again that even devoid of support, when on the ball, he can create opportunities for himself as well as for his teammates.

In Polish team he has a second striker/false 10 role behind star player Lewandowski (a bit similar to Okazaki's role at Leicester) and I couldn't wish for a better cooperation. Being a natural born finisher (I'd say perheps more natural than Lewandowski), he's amazingly unselfish and has lots of assists both at Ajax and national team. I can tell you this is the first time in ages (since I've started watching football) that I'm genuinely excited and entertained about watching Poland. That is precisely since the Polish gaffer put Milik in as a second striker alongside Lewandowski.

Now that we have two top class strikers on the pitch in good old 4-4-2, I just couldn't ask for more. Granted, sometimes the coach plays 4-3-2-1 with Milik on the left wing but his preferred position is forward - either as a sole striker, as a second one or false 10. Still he's more than adequate as a winger (can cross and pass very well). In all my years as Polish NT supporter I've seen so many mediocre, spiritless strikers in national colours I thought I'd never ever witness one international class striker. Two of them is a fuchsing abundance lol Who knows, Poland might even progress from the group phase, I just hope we won't bottle our best chance in years as we always seem to do! (BTW that's what Woy should do as well, play with Kane & Vards upfront).

I have no idea how likely Milik is to sign for Leicester. There's been rumors for quite some time now, since at least January I think? In recent weeks I've read somewhere that he apparently had stated his preference for Spanish league (bollocks imo, players often chat all kinds of shit in interviews, that doesn't mean much, Lewandowski loves La Liga as well). Apparently he was on cover of Sevilla's local newspaper, but that doesn't mean a lot either. Obviously Polish media would love him to sign there so he would play alongside his Polish pal Krychowiak who has already won two Europa League trophies in his two seasons there. On the other hand they are 7th in La Liga so why sign for some mid-table team when you could be reaching for the stars under Ranieri? :D

One thing I'm sure of, if he was presented with an offer from Leicester, he would be silly not to think twice or even thrice before considering to turn it down. He's been stagnating at Ajax under de Boer, who (despite his great first four season at Ajax) in last couple seasons was unable to manage players properly and often seems tactically way out of his depth (especially in Europe, usually against not-so-strong opponents). There's a truly amazing bunch of talented individuals there at the moment but the coach wasn't able to build a team. Even half a season more under de Boer would be a time wasted. I think Milik might know that and I'd be surprised if he doesn't leave this summer.

As I said, he seems a perfect fit. I rarely praise Polish players here (unless their surname is Wasilewski ;) ) and was more or less sceptical about other Poles who were rumored to be future Foxes. I was strongly against certain midfielder Linetty signing for LCFC (don't rate him tbh, don't think he would fit in) and I have my doubts about goalie Drągowski but I'm all for Milik. Additionally, Wasyl (if he stayed another year) would help him to gel into the team.

Have no idea how costly Milik would be. He's at 10m Euro at transfermarkt but that might skyrocket if he hits form at Euros. I'd say if Slimani is priced at £25m by Sporting (15 at transfermarkt) then paying between £15-20m for Milik seems reasonable. Obviously Premier League Champions will probably have to fork out extra quids so I wouldn't be surprised if we overpay for a new signing (or two) in the coming moths.

Alright that was one long post..  Will someone forward this to Don Claudio, please? Get him in already!!

PS.

Btw, the diminutive is AREK, everyone calls him that except the stadium announcer. No need to break your tongue on Arkadiusz if you don't want to :D

Also please don't write about him joining Spurs, the mere thought of it makes me ill. Besides, Ajax deservedly lost Erevisie title in the last game of the season (1-1 with soon to be relegated de Graafschap), so it would be like changing one team of young very talented bottlers for another... and getting lots of rather quiet supporters as a bonus!

I must admit I haven't seen a lot of Janssen! I'm not an Eredivisie specialist mind you, I've been watching mostly Ajax games last couple seasons (because of the Milik). Janssen has had an amazing season, his first. Seems like a great, hot prospect for the future, but I'd wait another season for a judgement. I'm quite confident he will bag 20 or so, but I'd be more interested to see how he does for Netherlands or in Europe with Alkmaar. They've failed to qualify for Euros so he should feature a lot now... that squad needs some young blood.

Answering your question, I don't know who's the bigger talent, but as for now, Milik is the more proven one. Eredivisie standard isn't that great, so the ultimate tests are national team and European cups.

Ajax play the complete opposite style to us with Barca esque possession based total football.

Would he fit into to our quick counter? Could he slow us down too much? I remember when Nugent played the 10 and he would infuriate me when he'd take the sting out of every attack!

Saying this, we did start to play more possession based football towards the end of the season at times so he'd be a good addition if CR wants to mix it up.

Yes. Milik is used to play on the counter with Poland against bigger opponents like Germany. That's why imo he would fit right in. Would be like fish in the water at LCFC. Ajax style is suffocating him. He loves to run or set up others with a pass or cross. Not sure if I would liken Ajax style to Barca though, as they often have huge problems with passing, crossing, creating chances as most of the players are too individualistic in approach (even Milik was selfish at times because what can one do when they don't pass the fuchsing ball to their striker). Well maybe that's a sort of poor man's Barca.
