UPinCarolina Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Looks like that will do it. The Dons move up to League One. Akinfenwa buries it!
sharpylcfc Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Wimbledon promoted, fully deserved. Congratulations to AFC Wimbledon.
promised land Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Are my ears playing tricks? Did the beast just mention us? Glad they've done it after what happened to their club, the fans must be loving it.
Wymsey Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Hopefully AFC will continue this, and the MK will continue to struggle. Justice etc.
promised land Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Chances of them going straight through to the championship? They have the team spirit, you wouldn't bet against it, look at Burton.
purpleronnie Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Chances of them going straight through to the championship? They have the team spirit, you wouldn't bet against it, look at Burton. i'd be amazed, they'll do well to stay in the league.
Manwell Pablo Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Hopefully AFC will continue this, and the MK will continue to struggle. Justice etc. There you go winkleman you c**t. Not logistically sensible to start from the bottom and work your way up? Have some of that. Hope they six point the Dons next season.
promised land Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 i'd be amazed, they'll do well to stay in the league. Stranger things have happened. It will be a massive task to stay up but you just never know, their two games against MK Dons will be good to watch.
Steven Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 There you go winkleman you c**t. Not logistically sensible to start from the bottom and work your way up? Have some of that. Hope they six point the Dons next season. Quite. Second best story this season after our story.
whetstonefox Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 A quick glance at the teams in League 1 next season would suggest mid table is more than realistic, plus with the spirit they have who knows.
Corky Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Big clubs like Bolton and Sheffield United to play next season. Local derbies with Millwall and Charlton, plus the usual third division perennial clubs like Oldham, Scunthorpe, Walsall and Coventry.
Fox92 Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Pleased for all those who reformed Wimbledon with their own cash. Third tier football - great achievement.
Jimothy Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 What a great season for football. Apart from Hull's promotion.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 30 May 2016 Author Posted 30 May 2016 Pleased for all those who reformed Wimbledon with their own cash. Third tier football - great achievement.Well done to WimbledonFantastic story Commiserations to Plymouth, hope they go up next season
Langston Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 How long have Sheffield United been in that league now? Five years? Mad, really - I don't like them but they aren't a third tier side.
MC Prussian Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 And Akinfenwa gets released straight after the Wembley promotion party... Now watch him join MK Dons.
Vicki Vixen Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Enjoyed that today. 57k attendance is incredible for a League 2 playoff final.
act smiley Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 There you go winkleman you c**t. Not logistically sensible to start from the bottom and work your way up? Have some of that. Hope they six point the Dons next season. They wouldn't have got the planning permission for Ikea doing it that way, which is what it was all about iirc.
Vicki Vixen Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Wimbledon's Stadium plans are up in the air right now. The application to move back to Plough Lane to redevelop the ageing dog track into an all seater stadium was finally approved by Merton Council, but the Mayor of London (Boris) stepped in to block it pending further investigation. Now Boris has been replaced by Sadiq Khan as Mayor, the whole thing is uncertain. Khan has spoken out against the redevelopment of Plough Lane in the past. In the meantime, the Dons have agreed to sell Kingsmeadow to Chelsea, who will use it mainly for reserve games and women's games. That means either asking Chelsea a favour to stay at Kingsmeadow (which is in Kingston, the neighbouring borough to Wimbledon's home borough of Merton) or finding somewhere else to play, with QPR or Fulham being possibilities. What a journey Wimbledon has been on. The least they deserve is to return home to Merton. Politicians seem hell bent on stopping it.
Corky Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Wimbledon (and AFC) is a truly bizarre case in that their on-field achievements over the years are fantastic and virtually all the trouble has been off-field. Look at the last 35 years- they were promoted 3 times in 4 years between 1982 and 1986, starting a 14-year spell in the top flight, winning the FA Cup in the process. They managed to finish 6th in 1994 and were fairly solid for most of their top division time. Even after relegation they had two respectable seasons in the Championship. Since AFC were formed they've risen 6 levels in 14 years and had crowds of 4k in the 9th tier of English football and took 2k away fans to tiny grounds. So fans of 35 years have seen 9 promotions, 14 years in the top division and an unforgettable FA Cup win. Yet all this has been achieved on the back of being told to groundshare with another club, the club being relocated 70 miles away and having to form a new one after campaigns to not be relocated to the likes of Dublin and Cardiff and struggles with being able to build their own new ground in their home borough. It has been some lifetime in the last 40 years but it really is triumph against all odds in more than one guise.
J.Lisemore Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Apart from Hull's promotion. Indeed slipped my mind already that they'd gone up.
Guest MattP Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Akinfenwa steals the ball aggressively off the regular pen taker so he can bask in his own glory at Wembley and then spends the whole interview afterwards begging a chairman to come and sign him. I think that's one of the reasons you might be being released in the first place lad.

I think that's one of the reasons you might be being released in the first place lad. Pretty sure the main reason is he's too shit for league one. Wouldn't tell him that mind. Oh yes Mr Bayo sir, you'd definitely make it at Barca sir.
