sylofox Posted 21 June 2016 Author Posted 21 June 2016 i kind of get what the guy is saying. How far do you have to go back to balance the books on transfers. Nuge came on a free sold for 4m? Helped us out of the championship and survival next season. Surely it matters not what we pay, just the influence the player has on a season. Vardy, mahrez and Kante. 7m between them could bring us in 80m plus. So what is the net balance? As said before here. The owners didn't get rich without making good decisions, and as said before, it's not our money. If they are happy to pay 30m on Deeney then so be it. Hasn't it all changed we are debating spending big on a player. Before people start saying 30m is too much for him, wasn't so long ago that many here thought 1m was too much for Vardy. Careful you get my thinking you will get pasted lol
oxford blue Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 Wasn't it only year ago we were trying to buy him for around £10m? With wages to reflect a transfer fee of £30m it becomes very expensive over a 4-5 year contract. Moreover, doesn't it make it even harder than it was (now we are Champions!) to sign players at realistic prices?
sphericalfox Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 I don't mind if we pay 30m on a player, as long as he's paying us to play in the team...say £30k per week will do.
Buce Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 Funnily enough transfer fees don't really bother me one way or the other .... But I don't think I'll ever get my head round what some of these players earn on a weekly basis. Yeah. Some of them earn nearly as much as you, CF..
Countryfox Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 Yeah. Some of them earn nearly as much as you, CF.. I wish Bucey !
Koke Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 Forget English players. Look for players abroad. These are our current home grown players Schmeichel Morgan Simpson Albrighton Drinkwater Vardy King Chilwell Schlupp Gray That's 10 home grown players. We got more than enough. Our spine is made up of those players. English players are overpriced so I think we're better off finding reasonably priced players abroad who will suit us.

LAprice_ Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 I'd pay it. There are so many factors that need to be considered. - We have lots of money - Everyone knows we have lots of money - Deeney is proven at this level - Deeney won't leave to play in the African Cup of Nations, like Slimani or Musa. - Deeney is what we need. He didn't score all the goals for Watford but he sure was involved in creating a lot of them. He's an industrious team player. - There isn't anyone else who's proven at this level who can do what he does and won't cost more. - 28 isn't even that old. We have the best sports science people around, being 28 at Leicester is probably more like being 25 anywhere else. That's just my opinion though. Sure it's a lot of money but I feel like it's a lot safer than throwing £20/30 at someone who's performed very well in a weaker league. It's a high price but low risk.
Foxxed Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 If it weren't for the age, I wouldn't care (I'm still considering the whole thing may be made up too). Our sports science people can reduce per season injuries on average, but I'm not sure they can increase the number of years of a footballer's prime. If he puts in a request, can we be arseholes and reduce our offer? (I'd obviously be massively against this if it were done to us....)
Richard Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 I'd rather we pay what it takes for the players who've been identified as what we need rather than go for a cheaper option because it seems better value. We want Deeney because he plays that 10 role well, is a captain and leader (we're after a lot this summer), is good in the air, has the 'leicester work ethic', and as Ranieri has said he likes a homegrown spine to his teams as they are leaders for foreign players unaccustomed to the PL Who else fits that bill? We've won the bloody title with unfashionable names, let's keep that going.
Lesteban Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 If you think Deeney is worth 30M there is something wrong with you, simple as that and the fact that we've already bid 25M scares me. Is it fact? I thought we just had newspaper stories, some of which sky sports picked up. They both get fees wrong all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if they were all exaggerated. Deeney himself posted something suggesting people shouldn't believe what they read didn't he? Could easily be in relation to his fee.
VLC86 Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 Really any stock over 12 months old is classed as a loss. Anything you get back is a bonus. Carrying dead wood like kram on a big wage was a loss. We lost the fee the minute he signed we was lucky to get 5m for him. You don't know me what I do or what I am worth. If you want to disagree fine don't tell me not to go into business. But so you know doing very well working for myself. relax mate, I don't care what you are worth and it was a joke comment based on the comment I quoted. Hard to understand context on Internet comments.
Gerard Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 A stupid thing to say "forget the price", it's what a five year old would say when they want a really expensive toy or they want to go to Disneyland for the weekend. If we don't care about value then it will be the death of us in the end.
Mythyaar Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 To even contemplate bidding £30 million for Troy Deeney is insane. Don't do it, please!
weller54 Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 To even contemplate bidding £30 million for Troy Deeney is insane. Don't do it, please! Who's a better option for that money then?
Mythyaar Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 Who's a better option for that money then? We could get Arnautovic AND Berahino for about £30 million. Both proven prem players, younger too. Way better business
VLC86 Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 We could get Arnautovic AND Berahino for about £30 million. Both proven prem players, younger too. Way better business The same Berahino who tweeted he would never play for a club and Arnautovic who was called mental by Balotteli? That would be an insane move.

Koke Posted 21 June 2016 Posted 21 June 2016 @@Koke Zieler counts as homegrown due to his time in the United Academy. FourFourTwo confirms. Even better. Add him and Moore then thats 12 home grown players at the club. I don't think we need to worry about this when looking for potential signings. So in terms of value for money I think we're better off looking in the foreign markets. Obviously signing young English talent like Gray for reasonable price is welcome.
