Forget the Price

So read one bit ignore the rest.

So you will be voting on Brexit based on a headline will you ffs.

I don't know how you deduced my voting intentions from my post but you're wrong I'm voting remain.

I also don't see what relevance Kramaric or any other transfer has on the Deeney one, if we sell Kante for £35m does that mean we got Deeney for free?

I do care about what we spend on players, value is paramount and I say this without judging Deeney's value.

So you'd pay £50 mill for Deeney? £60m?

tbf if we are going to be crazy enough to pay £30m+ i think i'd rather us pay £90m and genuinely make a 27 year old troy deeney the most expensive player of all time. just for a laugh.

A wise person once told me it's not about the money money money we don't care about your money money money we just want to make the world dance forget about the price tag and I think that's something we can all relate to.

£30 million isnt the problem.

clubs will know they can have our pants down when we try to buy their players.

personally, id value deeney at £15 million and thats taking into account the over-inflated price of english players in the current market!

if deeney seriously wants to join us he may get pissy and watford will be happy with £20 million :P

Some interesting comments here. If I won the lottery this would not me cause to pay 3 times over the odds for  anything I wanted to buy.  UKP30m is too way much for Deeney.  Fingers crossed that with our scouting network, there must be some gems they have on the radar that will cost a fraction of this.  I really hope so.

If we had paid 20m for kante last summer, there would have been an explosion here!

With hindsight, it would have been a spectacularly successful buy.

30m is too much for Deeney if you know the end of the story. None of us do. It's all opinions.

I'm certain that any fee is being hyper inflated to enable the Watford board and the player to retain their relationship with their fans.

in life, if you really really want something and you can afford it, then you make sure that you get it. if you don't, you will generally always regret it.

But the point of us not knowing the end story is the risk, which is significant for £30m.

But we didn't pay 20m for Ngolo Kante because we bought from a foreign market where clubs lack the finances to turn us down.

Watford have no need to sell unless we either make an offer that's so ridiculous they'll hand him over laughing or Deeney starts kicking up a fuss, which he won't.

If we believe that Troy Deeney is the only player in the world that can offer us what he does, or represents the most value for money of all the alternatives, then brilliant. Let's go for it.

But I'd personally consider it a rare fail for our scouting team if that's the case.

We're essentially football's equivalent of sabermetrics practitioners. We've made our success by NOT splashing out locally for the obvious choice. That's why I personally find deals like this underwhelming.

If we spend 5m or 50m on him who cares, the club will do what they think is best and after the season we have just had why wouldn't we trust there judgment.

Not when you have just won the league and have made the financial gain we have

And yet we're spunking a great deal of that financial gain on Troy Deeney and Michael fecking Keane.

Didn't we win the league without spending huge sums of money though, isn't that the lesson many others have to learn. Spending huge sums of money on well known media overhyped players didn't work for all those other teams 10+ points behind us. Man United alone spent a massive estimated £250 million and arguably ended up with a worse team than when they started as with perhaps the exception of Martial, it was their own academy 'free' kids that were their best players towards the end of the season.

Deeney would be a good player for us no doubt, but he is what he is and at 28 yrs of age nowhere near worth £30 million and just because you've got it, doesn't make it wise to blow it. Not that they'd come here but how much more for players like Morata and Cavani etc compared with a limited talent limited shelf like player as Deeney.

Behaving like drunks in an off license is why all those teams finished below us last year. Whilst they spent all their dosh on individuals they forgot to build a balanced. England are doing this at this very moment and a succession of England managers have done the same, by wanting to field their 'best players' rather than their best team.

We need to buy more of the right players both for a busier season and our long term future. Let's not fall into the Billy Big Bollocks trap however.

True to an extent but then you could argue we did that without spunking money so why should we now.

ALL football transfers carry a risk . Take Sterling for instance at Man city and even our own Krameric . You pay your money and take your chance. Considering what this club payed out for the side I would say we have already  taken many chances  on players .

We have moved up a gear and so any chances we take now will be a lot more expencive chances that's all.

Can't believe anyone can say forget the price with a straight face. Are you mental? What kind of fvcking attitude is that?

Have you forgotten what happened to us since the turn of the century?

We win the league in some sort of fairytale with cheap players and journeymen, giving everyone hope that it's not all about spunking money on players and by the time June rolls around people want us to be the new Man City, the antithesis of who this title winning club is. Bonkers.
