Guest Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 Let me ask you a simple - do you think we won the league last year but we had the best squad player for player or because of a number of other really important factors that combined helped us to win the league? Because if you think it's because individually our players (admittedly a few are) are better (and by that I mean technically and taken as individual talents) than those in other squads in and around the top half - what happened last year has gone well and truly over head. You are the one claiming that Joe is a good player. I'm saying he's a poor man's Danny Drinkwater. Not sure what that has to do with team spirit or anything else. Williams is also a low level prem player and was completely embarrassed in both games we played against him.
whoareyaaa Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 Yeah he's better than King. People letting their respect for Sir Andy get in the way of the facts. I love Andy king but some on here make out he's the best midfielder in the world even though he's a bit part player for us. I don't think anyone makes out he's anything more than average, unless there having a bit of a joke. What would Allen offer us that King can't? it's not like he would be in the starting 11 miles behind the likes of Kante and Drinky.

To be fair, if we keep kante, I very much doubt we will be able to sign a midfielder that is better than Drinky or Kante. We will be signing players to add to the squad that can compete with the likes of Drinky and Kante, not to replace them (unless kante leave of course)

themightyfin Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 If he is no better than King then why is he playing for Wales and King is benched? As much as I like King it seems many people are looking through blue tinted glasses

As much as I like King it seems many people are looking through blue tinted glasses Because different managers have different views, just because Coleman thinks he is better does not mean he is.Hodgson thought half fit Henderson and Wilshire were better than a fully fit Drinkwater, were they?

Guest Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 To be fair Coleman has not got a lot wrong unlike Woy so your argument does not hold up He got the England match wrong.
themightyfin Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 He got the England match wrong. Did he really? Took a last minute goal from a bunch of supposed premiership stars to beat a team of supposed sub standard players I think Coleman has done an amazing job and to say he got it wrong is a shocking statement.

That's all I can think of here. Allen is a great footballer and would be a great signing.
EGBFitness Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 Good squad player. We need bodies this season to help with the demand of Europe. Not sure if his value is going up the further Wales go though Would be happy to see him here for the right price
MikeyT Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 #LFC have placed a £14m valuation on Joe Allen following his performances for Wales at Euro 2016. (Daily Mail)

mozartfox Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Have we have placed a £14 m price tag on Chilwell yet?

Allen is a great footballer and would be a great signing. , there are better options on the market imo, he's a simple player but just doesn't have anything more about him. Is he that much better than King Honestly? liverpool want 14m is he really worth that? No thanks.
foxes21 Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 i'd take him as competition for drinkwater if kante leaves, then mendy/amartey can fight for the kante role.
MPH Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Have we have placed a £14 m price tag on Chilwell yet? No but the writing is on the wall for that potential swap deal isn't it. Chillwell and £5 million
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 I like Allen, I think he's a decent player at this level, but my main concern is the extent of midfielders we could potentially buy. I wouldn't want King to be further down the line of game time. I started a thread about two weeks ago saying 'How can we utilize King'. I still think King, played more, perhaps in a CAM role, could be really useful for us. He's one of the best finishers at the club. No doubt it's good to have a wealth of options in the midfield, but I'd hope individually they all stay content.

In fairness, Inler looks like he'll be off and I think James will at least go out on loan. We could also lose Kante. So I think there's enough space for Kingy to have an impact, even if we sign someone like Allen as well as Mendy.

IF we were to sign Allen, our current, total midfield options would be: Inler, Drinkwater, James, Allen, Kante, Mendy, Amartey and King. IF we use your post as an example, and say Allen signs, our total midfield options would be: Drinkwater, Allen, Mendy, Amartey and King. Looks pretty good to me. (Apologies if I missed anyone)

Tuna Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Would be a good signing. King/Allen Drinkwater/Mendy. Assuming N'Golo is off of course.
st albans fox Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 If we are interested in him, perhaps it's on a free once his contract is up next summer assuming no one actually buys him I'm the meantime If we are interested in him, perhaps it's on a free once his contract is up next summer assuming no one actually buys him I'm the meantime
roblcfc84 Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 The joe Allen signing makes perfect sense. Let's assume Kante stays. Allen is pretty much interchangeable for DD in terms of role. Not saying better - I think Danny has a better range of passing and Allen is better at finding little gaps to thread a pass through. No doubt DD would be the starter but conceivably you could have DD and Kante playing in the CL and being Allen and Mendy in for the PL with little to no impact in terms of style or tactics.
