Agree. I'd love to see us lift the FA cup. To us 'oldies' it still matters.

We've won a lot of major English cups apart from the FA Cup.

Would be lovely to see our name on the FA Cup trophy, to go alongside League One Champions, 7 Championships, a Premier League title, 1 Community Shield (maybe two) and 3 League Cups. Think I've named about all of them ;-)

We've got a proud history and I'm hopeful of adding to that in the future. Not to mention the finals we've been in too.

Good thread pablo..

I have never had expectations for city, I will just sitback and enjoy Ranieris interviews.

I will first allow my dreams and hopes to run wild.

Try and keep some composure by targeting this first part of the season 41pts.

We have again imo , done well in the transfer market, hoping we can still keep

hold of our mainstay players from last season, plus Benelouan and James.

Oh!! one expectation I do have..Big named clubs and their managers will

again not have it easy.Alot more gobsmacking moments to confuse the

pundits.

Finish above spurs and I'm happy.

Unless they finish 19th I'm assuming?

One thing..I dont know, if it was God or the devil who gave us last season,

but I fully expect to sell my soul once again... :)

I'd really like to see a situation where we are 1-0 down to Hull at half time, and there are no rumblings from FT on the match thread blaming the team, the formation, the training staff, Kante's agent, Rudkin and the owners for not signing Deeney or van Persie, but I can't see it happening. I kind of like the idea of fans being content with 10th place in the league (ah bless!), but that means there'll be 9 teams ahead of us, probably including Tottenham and their wonderful fans. Get real, guys, we've got to win it again. Nothing else will do!

I'd be more than happy with a top 10 finish in the league.  If we cant get out of the group stages of the Champions League then 3rd would be fine so that we drop into the latter stages of the Europa League.  If that happens and we are a bit off the pace in the league I hope we go all in to win it so that we can get a CL spot the following season.  FA Cup and League cup I don't give a toss about.

I couldn't possibly say on the league. I think you've got to look at how the others perform before you say about that - you'd imagine Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City are all going to be far stronger next year which changes everything. Tottenham as well I don't see getting weaker and Arsenal are always strong.

I'd probably say aim for top six. It's weird after we've won the league but I think the others are probably going to hit a level this year we won't be capable of and that's even if we do improve ourselves. Especially with European games to come as well.

But they still have to do that catching up. We are currently the best team in the country and they're the ones who've got to make up that ground and surpass it. Like I say though when you throw in Guardiola, Mourinho and Conte you've got a different ball game at the top. Three genuinely brilliant managers as opposed to mediocre (Pellegrini) or past it (Van Gaal, Hiddink) ones that you had before.

Domestic cups... hard to really define expectations because one strike you're out, but I want us to at least try to win them. We've added a huge piece of silverware I never thought we'd add - now let's go and get that one that's missing.

Europe... how on earth do you know. I think as a pot one team though, we've got to look to be at least progressing through the group. I'd imagine our pot two opponent (Leverkusen, Dortmund, Atletico, Sevilla, Porto or Napoli) will probably see us off to win the group but you would like to hope we can get through even if we are inexperienced - we had no experience of challenging for a top tier title and we handled that as if we'd been doing it years. It'd be a real shame if we did get humiliated though and it's not out of the picture. They're very different types of games to Premier League games and we may come unstuck.

Should we finish 3rd I'd like to see us take the Europa League seriously. Look what Liverpool, a side who finished 7 places and about 30 points below us last season did in reaching the final. It would be a huge shame in my eyes to get into this and then put out a reserve side as we bomb out to Sparta Prague or Malmo without a real care about it. I do get the impression we don't really treat cups seriously. The Champions League is different but I could see us taking the usual English attitude towards the Europa unfortunately.

My main expectation is that we keep building on what we've started and if we do (which I've no doubt we will) I don't think you can really ask for more, because it works.

Top six,I don't expect anything in the champions league because we are complete novices in that competition.i do expect us to take the fa and league cup seriously for a change

With our record last year which was no miracle how can anyone only expect 10th place. We will improve even without Kante (still believe he'll stick about though) and all those having spurs top 4 but us languishing somewhere below have little faith in our strengths.

Some here continue to follow the run in fears where Spurs were so much better....haha. A few of you apparently still can't believe our Leicester won the league because we were the best team and lets be honest, it wasn't even close. From what I saw from all teams last year, we will not only be top 4 but will be in a fight for the title once again.

At time of writing...

What I expect:

8th in the Premier League

3rd in the Champions League group stage

Last 32 of the Europa League

Last 16 of the League Cup

5th round of the FA Cup

What I would consider a good season:

6th or higher in the league

Quarter final or beyond in the Champions League

League Cup - not bothered unless we flop in the league and champions league

FA Cup - Semi finals or beyond (if we got to the Chamions League quarter final or beyond I wouldnt be bothered with the FA Cup).

I expect top half - I think we'll be competing for top 4 and end up top 6.

Couldn't care less about cups this season ( sorry ) I in fact would put our B team in throughout both until quarter semi final stages. (Barca esq.)

It's all about the CL for me - I genuinely believe we could do some real damage in it.

We are now learning that even little Leicester with CL football can retain and attract top players.... Without it we may struggle on both counts.

Top 4 and a decent CL campaign has to be the priority for me.

Posted

I would like to see City established as a top club that can attract good players.  We have that now to a degree due to the outstanding last season but we now need to be up and around the top six consistently from now on.  We'll probably never have a better opportunity to have that happen than now.  We still have the same players that won the title at present and have added well IMO, with additional decent players in defence, midfield and attack.  As such I see no reason why we can't make the top six, and would view finishing in the bottom half of the table as failure.

A decent showing in the Champions League would boost our international reputation but the Premier League is still the same goal for me this season.  The cups can be used to give squad players their opportunity - if we could win one that would be great but I'd still take Champions League qualification as the main target.

IMO we are now an established top 6 team at least, but I would lean towards top 4. Can't lie if we finished outside the top 4 it would be very disappointing for a team of our quality.

We are not an established top 6 team. Established means consistent placement over at least 3-4 years.

Speak for yourself oldie, it's tinpot now!

Joking aside and before the backlash I would like to clarify why I feel it's nowhere near as special as it used to be!

Back in the day there was genuine excitement to the build up for the 3rd round proper draw.Huddling round the radio with mates for subsequent draws if progressing was common place.

The FA cup , giant killing, dreams of Wembley were all palpable and truly magical. FA Cup final day was an all day spectacle and you were glued to your telly watching all the crass build up, dreaming.

I say the FA cup is now massively devalued in comparison, with weakened teams etc probably the last 15/20 years I would say name the finals of note and that is difficult to me in comparison to when I feel it was special 'back in the day'.

Don't get me wrong of course I would love us to win the FA Cup I would just love it to be taken seriously and back to being magic again!

Anyone expecting a top 4 finish is unrealistic, could happen but we'd need to have another phenomenal year to do that. Top 8 should be the realistic aim for me.

I hope those expecting a title challenge won't be turning on ranieri if we are mid table after 10 games.

We built success on smaller targets last season so let's just get to 40 points first.

Whilst I agree with the overall sentiment that a top half finish and getting out of the CL group would represent a good season, I can't help but feel that it is slightly negative thinking.

Last season we won the league by 10 clear points. This wasn't a league title that we burgled on the final day. Even if Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and Man United all improve by 10 points and we do 10 points worse we'd still probably finish 4th or 5th. Even if we do 20 points worse than last season that would probably be enough for about 6th or 7th.

We didn't get to where we got last season purely by chance. Teams were "wise" to us apparently from about the end of February (Norwich coming to the KP with a deep back 5) but we still found a way to take more points in that time frame than anybody else in the league.

The CL will be a massive distraction and Ranieri is going to face a big challenge in keeping a larger squad happy if he tries to repeat last year's trick of having a consistent starting XI. Assuming he doesn't do that we will lose some cohesion from chopping and changing the starting XI which will count against us, but the experience of last season and the fact that I'm still not 100% sure anybody takes us seriously (our own fans (and myself) included judging by this thread) is going to count in our favour.

Also, there's every chance that we'll be out of all the cups by the start of February anyway (I hope not) which would minimise the "disruption" to our league season (Fez wrote a good bit in his book about what a sad attitude that is but it seems to prevail now).

So, I'm hoping for top 10 in the league and a decent European run. Another trip to Wembley in a cup would make it even better.

But there's no reason we can't qualify for the CL again.

But we have established ourselves as Premier League winners.
