Worst take aways and orders you've regretted

For me it's the Turkish Delight Kebab shop in Hinckley. Cold kebab meat and overcooked chicken with chilli sauce you could drown in. It makes money from the inebriated youth on a Friday and Saturday night

Mario's on Braunstone Gate has taken a serious dive in the last couple of years too. Used to be the fried food venue of choice on the way home after a night out.

Now it's reheated chips that haven't been sold in the afternoon.

I wish i remember the name - found a place on Just Eat a couple of years back in town that did "Mexican" food - it was fvcking vile congealed red slop with neon orange plastic pasted all over it and by far the worst chewiest chips I'd ever had. Place must have gone under by now, no way anyone would eat there twice

Baines in Birstall once served me a rotten Pukka Pie (Beef and Onion) that smelt and tasted of stilton. Must have easily been a week past it's sell by date. Never visit any more, shame as the chips are decent

Mario's Pizza, Loughborough. Nice flavour but guaranteed 24 hours on the toilet

Once went on a work Christmas do - we'd all agreed to have Chinese buffet and I'd recommended Terracotta. Woman at work booked a place called Flame on Granby Street. Food was so awful no one went up for seconds. Two days later it was front page on the Mercury - was shut down instantly as the worst hygeine inspection East Midlands food safety officers had ever witnessed, including but not limited to rats (living) found in cupboards containing food, rat droppings found on areas of food preparation, rancid meat left in fridge, food stored in open containers on the floor. Amazingly no one was ill.

Uni Takeaway, Nottingham. By a country mile the worst pizza I have ever had. Imagine a wet slice of bread marinaded in onion juice, covered in Lidl imitation cheese singles and left on the radiator for 10 minutes. This place is still open, so if you want a laugh go and order a pizza from there and give it to someone you hate, or post it through their letterbox to reduce the value of their house.

I feel ill.

The Maryland on Narborough Road. Any Maryland, in fact. I used to eat fried chicken every week. Now I won't touch the stuff. I hate the marks on the skin, I hate the soggyness of the coating. I particularly hate when you bite into a piece and some liquid dribbles down your chin and you try to convince yourself it's just the fat from the fryer but deep down you just know the chicken had some sort of tumour.

Gotta be Baines - see my writeup above. If you like food poisoning and burnt pizza, it's the plaice to be

Mind you the locals big up Birstall Fisheries way too much for what is a completely bog standard chip shop. Rothley chip shop and Sileby Fish Bar any day

Damn right. I grew up in Sileby, the chips there are, 9 times out of 10, perfect. (The other 1 time in 10 they're rock hard and inedible)

Doner meat was good last time I tried it there but that's going back a few years

disagree. Bains has always been ok for me. it wasn't bains but then I don't have pizza from there..

most of these reviews are bound to be chippys. chippy is so hard to do really well but easy to do badly.

a chicken tikka is a chicken tikka, a beef chow mein is a beef chow mein how hard can it be

Yeah but what I don't get is, whichever Chinese you go to in any part of the country the menu is always the same. And all the ones I've tried all seem to use the same generic sauce for whatever sauce based meal you order.

Not really related but sort of...

Few years ago now but I remember ordering a pizza when in Leicester and it was delivered by a man who was so fat he could hardly breath and walk. He was weezing as he handed over the pizza, attempted a smile and said " how about a tip?"

I just looked at him all horrified and closed the door.

Now im not against tipping, i do it often but that's the first time someone has ASKED me for a tip...
