Walsh to Everton - Official

I thank Walsh for all the players he has found us. Best of luck to him at Everton, a big and historic club, but one man isn't bigger than the club and we move on.

More than paid for himself in his time here. Hopefully the fruits of his work will continue. I really do wish him every happiness and I'm sure he will be a success in his more relaxed directors role of his home town team.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Simply gutted at this happening, but I wish him well, after the excellent work he did for us.

I take it we shall recieve some compensation, but it wont make up for his loss.

It does make you wonder what contracts are actually worth these days when people sign a three year contract and depart two months into it. I guess its merely a pay guarantee no matter how poorly you perform as the club would be duty bound, in law, to pay the value of the contract unless gross misconduct or withdrawal of labour could be proved in court. I suppose there is the compensation though, probably meant Leicester never paid Walsh a penny.

We have seen it with Southampton for many years, just seems our turn. I wonder how Spurs slipped below the Vulture radar. Must be because they are a bunch of bottlers.

A contract certainly protects the player/member of staff more than a club or so it seems.

Good luck to the bloke as he has gone off to his  own team, sure most of us would walk out of a job to work for City, but for all this doom that he is the be all and end all think on this. Not knocking the bloke he has been outstanding but Aston Villa basically based their recruitment policy on seeing who we were in for and who Walsh scouted and bid more money and more wages and got these players. Well we all know how successful that went so did Walsh actually scout players who were no bloody good or is it about a manager,a system and backroom that mould a player into a certain style or system that turns a Vertout into a Kante.

Tears all round.

But he was never going to stay forever. At least he's gone to Everton, which is a good club, with Koeman, who is a good manager. I'd have been a bit more enraged had he gone to Chelsea / Man City / Arsenal / Tottenham.

Best of luck to 'em.

Not sure what 'gone off to his own team' means ...    He signed a bleedin contract then broke it !

Hi lads and ladies and hope you're all having a great summer.

I was personally delighted you managed to hold on to take the title, and wish you well again for next season. It's been interesting reading your comments in this thread, and most of them appear positive towards Walsh, who comes to Everton to begin a role that is new for us. Hopefully he'll add an experienced head to our recruitment, which in my opinion only, has taken a tumble in recent years. It was a bit of a surprise to hear about Walsh, as I'd personally little knowledge of him, and the papers had been linking us to several other names. I think scouting only plays a small part in any players ability to contribute to the team, and a lot of credit has to go to the way they're utilised once they get here, and I've liked your last 2 managers who both played a huge part in your recent success.

Some fans are comparing us to Man City's recent history, but I personally think we're a long way from emulating their spending, and I envisage sensible decisions at boardroom level, in order to get the club back on track, which will be a much slower and thought out process than the "Buy Success - we can afford it" strategy of City. Our last couple of years has been a footballing disaster on the pitch, and it's going to take a lot of work just to return us to the solidity we experienced under Moyes, never mind push on to the next level.

What Leicester did was amazing, and although I think it will prove to be an exception for up and coming teams, as opposed to the norm, it shows that the league was there to be won by anybody brave enough to believe, and Everton players have proved time and again that psychologically they lack belief, and if Walsh can do anything, then perhaps he can work with Koeman on improving that, as I've not seen such a soft bunch at Everton for quite some time. We once had a fighting spirit, but it appears long gone.

It will be interesting to see what Walsh adds, and Koeman for that matter, so every reason to be positive, but in closing I hope your team don't get sold off as that would be sad for everybody, not just Leicester fans .............. but if you do ........... can we have Schmeichel? :P

All the best and see you soon.

And because he signed a contract we got a pay off of around 2 to 3 million according to reports. Apparently he has an affinity and links to Everton, would you not want to take a promotion to work for City in the twilight of your career?

Well I've learnt this summer that contracts seem to mean more at Burnley and Watford than they do here

Why is it the minute someone breaks their contract and leaves some smug sanctimonious *** comes on here to tell us how well we did.     Do one.   :P

Good luck Walshie! You brought us players who got us into the Premier League and who also kept us there and then brought in more players that helped gives us the best ever season that none of us could ever have dreamt off. We will forever be in your debt.

So what's the alternative? Force him to stay, against his will, and hope that he's going to keep doing the same great job? Or put him on gardening leave for 3 years and keep paying.

Or cut your losses, wish him well and get on with moving on?

You'll be my bitch next season after saying that.   lol

We're going to win the treble - didn't they tell you?

Sat in the Everton end at the trophy presentation game and got chatting with the scouser next to me. Wished him luck for the coming season and said they deserved better than what they'd been dished up under Martinez. Really didn't expect a big part of our success to be making that move :(
