Sunderland wouldn't sell kone witsel - strange one but seems he wanted to go somewhere other than Everton and he will probably get his wish in January.

Bayfox Posted 4 September 2016 Posted 4 September 2016 Taking a scout and essentially making head of recruitment/dof was never gonna be an overnight success he has been used to identifying players and scouting over a period of time. Not being placed in a position to negotiate terms and deals under a tight deadline. That was someone else's job. Shows how desperate he was to move back north and that it pulled at the heart strings. On a personal level I hope he is given a bit of time and is a success. That said my destain for Everton grows with every trip to the goodison library.

Webbo Posted 4 September 2016 Posted 4 September 2016 My opinion, and I'm only guessing, of the Walsh deal was that Everton signed him to set up a similar scouting/recruitment system to what we have. He's got to recruit analysts and new scouts. They're not really going to see results until at least January and probably next season. He'll probably recruit sports scientists as well.
WigstonWanderer Posted 4 September 2016 Posted 4 September 2016 Total cluster**** with Sissoko. Don't particularly wish Walshy ill, although I don't think he treated us very well having just signed a new deal, but he may find that he has moved out of his comfort zone.

I don't really get that, I mean ultimately who am I to question/slag off other people decisions but looking from the outside in, we live in England, you're never far from anywhere, certainly being based in the midlands, you're 2 hours away, really not that far. And his job entails travelling anyway. As I said who am I to judge but do feel that is quite a poor excuse. Especially given the fact he'd only just signed a new contract.
surrifox Posted 4 September 2016 Posted 4 September 2016 Oh well let's hope that a megalomaniac owner making life uncomfortable for everyone doesn't translate to another shite season in the lower half of the prem
Blue ROI Posted 4 September 2016 Posted 4 September 2016 Things look a bit rocky with Everton at the minute but far better than what Walsh started with at Leicester. He'll come good but it might take 18 months or so before he makes his mark. They've made their best start in years. Could be similar to West Ham last season.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 4 September 2016 Posted 4 September 2016 Walsh just walked out on us having signed a deal in May... I can't help but feel pretty good that he is finding life difficult at Everton already in his new supposedly better club and role...
sm1 Posted 4 September 2016 Posted 4 September 2016 Everton have a good squad and really didn't need many players in the transfer window. There problem was that Martinez doesn't know how to defend, evidenced by how Belgium played against Spain. Koeman will do well with that squad and they've had a decent start to the season. Although I don't have much time for Walsh after he left us, the reason Everton wanted him was because of his ability to scout diamonds for little money. If the owners wanted to throw 100s of millions of pounds around in the transfer window they didn't need Walsh. I'm sure he'll be pretty successful there given time.

Maybe the travelling played a part. In is current role there will be a lot less involved than when he was scouting maybe it was taking it's toll on him. He seems a decent bloke to me so I'll take it at face value. My sister is an Everton season ticket and quite frankly driving up and down the m6 before and after match days would be enough for me to not bother with that journey alone.

They both need to assess and rebuild an under performing squad identify targets and beat the competition to their signature. They have also brought in a man who made his name uncovering great prospects, not buying established stars. They were never going to appeal to Sissoko more than Spurs, it doesn't matter how good their DOF is, Spurs have been a top 6 team for the last 5-6 years and now have Champions League football, Everton finished bottom half last season and are in transition. Nobody would choose Everton over Spurs unless they threw stupid amounts of money at them. Not even an Arsenal supporting mercenary like Sissoko.
Fox92 Posted 5 September 2016 Posted 5 September 2016 Doesn't matter, he's gone now. But what did people expect him to do in less than five months
ALC Fox Posted 5 September 2016 Posted 5 September 2016 It's a bit ridiculous to expect him to wander in with his contacts book and a folder full of scout reports and say, we need this, that and the other. Walsh needs to understand from Koeman where the squad needs strengthening. That's Koeman, by the way, who is also new to that club. Saying that, maybe it's the role that doesn't suit him, or rather that he needs to acclimatise to. Did he have any role in negotiations here? DoF is likely to be a different beast to Chief Scout/Assistant Manager. Their owner seems like an impatient bloke, judging by that report as well. It seems like he's going down the opposite route to ours. Walsh could come back here and work alongside the new chap, no problem. Come home Walshy, we love you here.
Larry_LCFC Posted 5 September 2016 Posted 5 September 2016 Grass definitely isn't always greener. I mean, have you seen our pitch?!?
Wymsey Posted 5 September 2016 Posted 5 September 2016 Everton will become bigger in the future. With apparent new stadium planned somewhere and new investor saying he's looking to rebuild for future. 6 or 7th is achievable for them this season.
