BlueTillIDie Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 I'm probably a day behind so appoligises if this has already been posted but was wondering what are peoples thoughts on John Terry coming back into the England setup? Surely we have enough options and up and coming talent to not have to result in recalling our shamed 35 year old former captain?
Jimothy Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 No. No matter how bad we are we won't be moving forward by recalling aging player at the end of their career. Would much rather fail to win the next World Cup playing Smalling, Stones, Dier etc than fail to win it playing a Terry. He's finished, and finished a long time ago, the others are young and learning, we'll benefit more in the long run. I'm not against using older players, but England reached a new low in the summer, it's time to clear the decks and start to build for future tournaments. There's plenty of current players that need removing from the selection process, let alone bringing failures back in. We never won a World Cup with Terry in his prime, why would we suddenly win one now?
The Horse's Mouth Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 Will he even be still playing for the next world cup anyway? Tbf to Terry, he's probably the only one of the big boys who could actually get in on merit but he's done now, think it's a shame we chucked him out when we did but it's over.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 yeah I would do it purely to piss people off. Nothing more entertaining than getting guardian contributors and female labour MP's mad imo
ScouseFox Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 should've been in the last two squads deffo but pretty pointless now. we could qualify with me playing at centre half and by the time we get the World Cup he'll have retired from footy all together.
purpleronnie Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 Well we picked big sam so we might as well keep going backwards.
fuchsntf Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 No. He had a good international career ..but He was poor andxslow when he retired. There are enough younger players, who have better talent, even if lacking in experience..
Fox92 Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 No. Aging now and you can often see it on MOTD. Easily beaten. We (should) have enough younger players that are better now. I think Terry probably should have gone to the last World Cup though. He had a tremendous season when Chelsea won the league.
Dr The Singh Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 Unless Sam really believes he can play in the world cup for us
Finnegan Posted 25 August 2016 Posted 25 August 2016 Move on. Work on the future. If he hasn't already he should just retire, Rooney nall. **** off all your over thirties and rebuild.
Manwell Pablo Posted 25 August 2016 Posted 25 August 2016 Why is this even a question sorry? Has he said he is coming back. As far I was concerned Terry retired
Nick Posted 25 August 2016 Posted 25 August 2016 Coaching role in the future, maybe. We need our players to play together - especially at the back and so for a sustained period leading up to big tournaments.
foxy boxing Posted 25 August 2016 Posted 25 August 2016 we can't go backwards and bring in a mid thirties defender who the f.a deemed toxic to have in the national team. he is one of our best defenders agreed but it is time to move on and young players need the chance now. yes we still need experienced players around but we have them already. will he evan play for chelsea every week
purpleronnie Posted 26 August 2016 Posted 26 August 2016 Let's face it racism shouldn't be tolerated at any level, unless you're Chelsea captain and England still need you.
Wymsey Posted 26 August 2016 Posted 26 August 2016 Would like Henderson to be replaced with Gerrard, but Henderson is seen as a big part of the England team for the next few years unfortunately.
Captain... Posted 26 August 2016 Posted 26 August 2016 NO! The next tournament is in 2 years, he will not be in the squad in 2 years time, so what is the point. We need to craft a partnership out of what we have, not clinging the notion that John Terry is the answer.
Benji Posted 26 August 2016 Posted 26 August 2016 Nope. Think he should have gone to the Euros but given that we're two years from another major tournament we should be developing a partnership or two that plays together at every opportunity.
Finnegan Posted 26 August 2016 Posted 26 August 2016 We all know you're going to play Stones and Smalling for the next decade anyway TBH.
Carl the Llama Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 Only if we're talking about a half-time choccy orange.
Foxbythesea Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 Too slow and would be way too tired from the Premier Leauge games.
