Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 Nah we got got the mustachioed maestro that is Daniel Amartey.
Dynamogoon Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 He is categorically not a £20 million player. He's decent, but not that decent
The People's Hero Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 Better than a decent player in my opinion and possibly someone who may be happy as a squad player, once we work out who our best starting midfielders would be when all fit. Hardworking, pretty complete midfielder in my view with premier league experience and possibly surplus to requirements at Everton. Its not a hugely exciting link, but it does add depth and if Inler is to leave, we are short in that area. £20,000,000 is steep though. You'd think if he wants the guarantee of a starting berth then the other clubs linked look a better bet. Seeing Sunderland linked reminded me of Kheziri who seriously impressed me on a handful of occasions last year as a ball winner. Is he tending to start for them this season?

Got a lot of abuse last season alongside Stones, Barkley and others. I find it hard to believe they are all cr ap players, although do agree perhaps they are a little over-rated. Still top bracket players in my view. . McCarthy not at same level, but something wasn't right at Everton last year. Not sure if they just weren't playing for the manager or the system was wrong or whatever, but I'd not write this player off.
Simmo86 Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 True. Everton were a shambles last year. I searched his name on Twitter last week when he was linked with Newcastle. I was being shocked by how much abuse he was getting.
foxfanazer Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 Don't think he's the type of centre mid we need
AKCJ Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 I wouldn't bid 20m but if Drinkwater needed a rest or got injured then he'd do as a replacement.

crisp packet Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 Quite like him good player ? Premier league experience, love it how we gulp at this price but all would spunk over an unknown kid from abroad...

Premier league experience, love it how we gulp at this price but all would spunk over an unknown kid from abroad... you're saying £20m for McCarthy is the right price to pay? Considering you questioned yourself I very much doubt it. Regardless of how much players from abroad cost. It doesn't justify such a high price-tag for someone who is essentially just a hard-working central midfielder (where we don't really need to strengthen).
Tielemans63 Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 Not even a link really is it? He obviously wants out of Everton, Koeman probably isn't too fussed if he goes and his agent is touting him as best he can. Still think he's a very good player though, was one of the top performing midfielders a couple of years back but then had the misfortune to be managed by Roberto Martinez. £20 million seems very steep though for a player with a point to prove
Guest NGoloMode Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 I'd get him in for £20 mil. He is for sure better than King and James.

We have only really seen him in a struggling poor side in the prem. At least give him the chance to prove himself in a decent side ffs.

sphericalfox Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 As an Irish fan, I'd be delighted to have more Irish representation in our team. Whilst McCarthy is arguably better than James for example, £20m is ludicrous. He has a serious work rate, which is ideal for the team, but he can occasionally be a hothead if things are not going his way. Not sure why we're linked, but can only assume it's agents at play. 2 years ago I would have said yes please for the price he went to Everton, but now it's a no.
