Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 31 August 2016 Posted 31 August 2016 Wouldn't say it grinds my gears as I've just phased out of it - but this forum, just not what it was, is it? Obviously it's still fantastically run but instead of light hearted comedy or the tinder thread it's a City Fan 06 poll about your favourite stand or Gaelic Fox, bluetintedspecs or sylofox being overtly aggressive if you can manage to swerve Bob Weasel Fox calling Col "buddy".

Every generation thinks that though, to be fair. You'll get a thread by some youngun in five years time about how it's not like it used to be now that Gaelic and BTS aren't laying in to everyone. Before you bemoaning the demise of the Tinder thread (which was frequently as funny as a cancer diagnosis - hey everyone, look, I quoted wymsey to a random girl who doesn't know what's going on its so funny) we had Lofty, LD3 and co' sad that the all nighter threads were no more. Before that was TPH, Daggers and the like sad that "the kids" had taken over and there's not the same banter in gen chat anymore.

I was only a lurker at the time but didn't Daggers/Nick etc leg it from General Chat as every political prediction they made went tits up and Moosebreath couldn't stop taking the piss out of them for it? I still think the forum is great, general chat zones rarely survive these days in an age of facebook/twitter etc, I come on to read almost every day.

That's the version Moose tried to drive home after Daggers left FT but, no. For a start, Nick never went anywhere, he's Swan Lesta, which is in itself a joke reference to the old days. For seconds, I don't remember Daggers ever claiming to see in to the future. Daggers just doesn't post much anymore for the same reason Lisa, Fez, Katy, Scowie, Cobbo, Sir Fynwy, TPH, James, Kokopops, HullFox and countless others don't anymore. Most grew out of it, some got bored, some left because the others did, some still lurk occasionally but can't be arsed. Shit, even Smuts doesn't bother much now. Moose loves a bit of drama, I'm sure he likes the idea of "chasing" someone off (which is ironic given how many times he's flounced off the forum with his various alter egos) but the actual fact is far more boring. People just grow up. Except me apparently. And Babs. And Mablo.
Jattdogg Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 I imagine some get busy with kids and work life. I am by no means a quality poster on this board. Love coming here to read comments about city and the general threads. I add in some useless comments (i admit) but its more so that i just dont have the time to put a lot of thought/insight into posts with kids running around. Easier to just read and make short douchey like comments. I best stop this is now as its already getting longer then my longest post

We have differing memories then, I remember him assuring everyone of triple dip recessions and mass unemployment, couldn't have been more wrong. (More tragic was all the nuthuggers blindly following him) Well he could actually, I've just looked at Moosbreath's account and his signature was a Daggers prediction from 2011. Though I do feel for him a bit declaring himself out and missing probably the best 3 seasons together in our history. Quote "Supporters are being sold a pup - it's a lie based on greed. Do you believe the club can sustain this investment? If you do then you're a blithering fool. What a retarded concept. Laughable. Point out the glory days I should currently be experiencing? Where is this quality football which is meant to be entertaining me? Where've I meant to have seen it? People believe that they will see free-flowing moves, attacking football and exhilarating goals. But as long as there are monied owners looking to build a brand to sell it will continue to be about winning at the cost of fun & excitement. It's a fantasy built on unreal expectations with foundations in sand. And for that reason I'm out". - Daggers on Top and Vichai, 2011

But then TPH reckoned we'd get relegated the year we won the Championship didn't he? Nobody ever claimed either were football experts! Having met both a few times, they're decent enough guys though. The fact that Moose has that as his signature says it all mind. Regardless, my point was that Daggers isn't the sort of person to be so upset that one prediction went awry that he'd give up posting. The reality is just that all his friends stopped posting over time and he just got bored and moved on. No more or less dramatic than that.
Merging Cultures Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 The forum certainly has changed, it seems to have become more serious. Weirdly, I've recently spent more time on the main forum than general chat.

We used to have the odd political argument but there was a lot more drivel. Now we have the odd bit of drivel but a lot more political argument. We'd probably all like each other a lot more if we had no idea what we all thought of immigration and the economy.
Merging Cultures Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 Didn't they try to separate news and politics into it's own forum. I thought that was a decent idea, but it didn't seem to last long, anyone know why?

Mark gets bored all the time and wants to change stuff though.

I find the political threads quite brilliant when guys like Alf, Matt, Captain, Mac etc are debating and find the "What beer are you" stuff boring as hell, sure other people are the opposite so it was great to seperate the two.
Wymsey Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 Appears that Moosebreath isn't permanently banned after going on his/her profile. This place isn't going downhill imo, just have regulars like weller54, BT Specs, kingfox, Gerard, mozartfox, High Peak fox etc trying to be funny and knowledgeable at the same time but in many cases aren't. Hope Ken is alright. That thread where Daggers claimed he went to the Infirmary and 21st Century Fox producing horse get-well cards is still funny reading it from start-end.
Alf Bentley Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 I suppose having a separate politics sub-forum de-cluttered General Chat a bit. But it also meant that only us "usual suspects" contributed to politics threads - and it's more interesting if a wider range of people contribute. Most of the time, there aren't that many politics threads on the go, anyway. It's just a particularly turbulent time politically, with a new PM, Brexit, Labour in chaos (possibly to be followed by the Tories & UKIP) etc. I agree with Captain's points in the thread above: those who find politics dull have no need to click on politics threads as it's usually obvious that they are politics threads. I never click on threads about boring stuff like cars. Some people have an interest in fine ales, attractive women, maybe even cars - and politics. Better to mingle more anarchically, I reckon.
ScouseFox Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 gen chat is pretty rubbish the last 6 months or so and since we got good we've got so many members in the lcfc/transfer topics that if you go out for an hour you miss so many posts its effort trying to catch up. and even if you do have a browse they are all fu cking shit. like finno said gen chat has turned from funny mixed with news mixed with politics, and even people making news and politics threads funny to now it just being like a 24/7 question time but without any of the good bits of question time. still my go to site on the web if I'm bored but a lot less of it id choose to read. but yeah, goes in cycles. i remember pre "tinder thread" days similar threads saying when was it last good on here and everyone who'd starting posting less but that swung it back for a bit. just need a new thread none of the angry boring people can ruin. or the ability to post the nudes.
Merging Cultures Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 It might have just been the summer months though. People on holiday and not much happening. I'm still on here constantly. But I work from home and I'm bored 90% of the time. That will change with my new office job (thanks everyone for the tips in surviving in a cube).
Webbo Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 The idea was that the politics was putting some people off gen chat but after it was split gen chat got even quieter. As an experiment it didn't really work.

SystonFox Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 Yes. But @Miquel The Work Geordie What is your favourite stand? What's your fave chant and how many flags can we wave at the games?! i think this forum is great. It provides hours of entertainment to me but certainly, as scousela says, since we "got good" the gen chat section has wained off and the Lcfc section is more full of morons looking for an argument over CAMBIASSOOOOO, Kunte and Kramaric and the like most of it isn't worth reading. General football and sport is always as good as it was.
