FoxesTalk: Not what it was?

I'm still relatively new to FT so can't really comment on the 'good old days'. But what I will say is that the variety of topics/threads is what makes it so appealing to me. Some of the obviously younger posters on the Leicester forum do my nut in, but I know I can always go back to the relative sanctuary of the Joke thread or the 80's music thread for a bit of light - hearted relief. Long may FT continue. It knocks the socks off the competition and as a free service, it provides me with hours of entertainment each day (too much sometimes - it's somewhat fvckin addictive ain't it?)

Bit embarrassing to have this sort of discussion really. The site itself has seen numerous improvements and fine tuning adjustments over the years thanks to Mark's efforts.  Only negative is that with our success and increased exposure we've had to curtail certain activities ie. Nudie pics. It's upsetting but if that's your only reason to come to FT you're internetting wrong.

I'm a bit disturbed at the number of people going 'End topic. Close thread, or I'll have to shoot you in the face'. Why? Surely people have a right to lurk or post as they see fit, particularly those who happen to have opinions that are a bit too mentally unstable to risk on their own family or friends. What other outlet do they have? Threatening to shoot other FT members in the face must be a last resort. It's important that we all remember that.

Clearly some punishment must be meted out to people who say 'discuss' or 'rant over', but I think it should be more like a community service order, like picking up litter for a couple of hours. There's no need to go all Stalinist about it. This ought to be a happy place.

There's a number of things, one is that General Chat was my escape from the main forum, now it is the other way round. A lot of threads get derailed with shit jokes and some threads jump pages overnight and I just can't be arsed to read them all, and a lot of the time it is the same people saying the same thing. There are a lot of new users but very few new views.

There also doesn't seem to be many new threads on GC whereas there are loads of new threads on the main and transfer sub and those that are created get few replies with people tending to stay in their threads. Did anyone ever reply to the question about what book you would give an Alien? I saw that had no comments after nearly a day.

I wouldn't say it is better or worse, but there is less in there tha interests me. One option would be to merge music and computers and gaming, 2 very underused forums and get more people in the same place and more chat will happen. I expect things to pick up with the transfer window closing, but then Champions League will dominate. A undersubscribed General Chat is an acceptable price to pay for on field success.

Sorry Mark.

I don't think it is a criticism of the forum or the site, just that GC is not what it was in terms of content.

This was an attempt at combining two threads, the book thread and the films thread. It's not surprising that people were confused. Personally, I think that were Ripley simply would have handed the Alien a copy of 'Infinite Jest' by David Foster Wallace it would have saved her lots of running about. But that's just a personal opinion.

I left for a bit for professional reasons and the fact that I was beginning to feel aggressive toward some posters because of their values and needed some perspective if I'm honest.

I'm okay now, I have remained abstinent from killing for some time.

I also need a couple of masks, two P1 references and the loan of their passports for Copenhagen away if anybody can help.....

I enjoy coming in here,

lots of good info,

but there's seems to be a hard core on here who if you say something one doesn't agree with the rest get on the bandwagon and ridicule you, just because your not 'hard core ft with 10000+ posts

It certainly isn't the laugh it used to be. As people have said, it all seems too serious these days in gen chat and the normal forum is full of young wannabes who think they know it all. Offer an alternate opinion and then you get a mouth full.

I rarely post now in all honesty because of it. Not that I claim to have ever been a good poster but still. I used to enjoy the laughs with mtwg, tph, aoww etc. Ah well, life moves on I suppose.

I used to spend most of my time in here in GC and only rarely ventured into the main City forum because it was so full of zoomers yelling:

"[insert manager name] OUT! "

every time we didn't win.

Since City became brilliant, the main City forum has actually become more tolerable, whilst at the same time it got a lot shoutier here in GC and the fun new topics dried up.

I only come into GC as an afterthought these days...

You're not supposed to be here.

Who is, existentially, who is really 'here'? Here no longer exists. The earth revolves, the Milky Way rotates, the universe expands. These letters are nothing more than a stream of movement in space and time. Some would call me a ghost, others an echo of the past - me? I reckon I'm just the bloke who keeps Moose in his minimum wage job by using a drive-though.

This thread is running out of steam.
