FoxesTalk: Not what it was?

Problem is we won the league. No more cathartic melt-downs after drawing at home to Peterborough. I suppose part of the fun of football forums has always been the gallows humour. Wtf do we do now we're actually good?!?

But it's not that easy - when there are so many politics thread you just stopped going in the General Chat subforum altogether

Yet Webbo has just claimed that precisely the opposite occurred: that fewer people used General Chat when there was a separate politics subforum....

I don't have a strong view, really. Whatever your or my interests, sometimes there'll be a lot of threads of interest, other times very few....c'est la vie.

I've just checked and there seem to be four threads about politics in the top 20, if you count the EU referendum & the US presidential election.

Yet there are also various other threads, including a couple about beer and several allowing people to moan about the city of Leicester, FoxesTalk and life in general, if that's their preference....

Anyway, back to real life...

Every generation thinks that though, to be fair.

You'll get a thread by some youngun in five years time about how it's not like it used to be now that Gaelic and BTS aren't laying in to everyone.

Before you bemoaning the demise of the Tinder thread (which was frequently as funny as a cancer diagnosis - hey everyone, look, I quoted wymsey to a random girl who doesn't know what's going on its so funny) we had Lofty, LD3 and co' sad that the all nighter threads were no more.

Before that was TPH, Daggers and the like sad that "the kids" had taken over and there's not the same banter in gen chat anymore.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

I've never been a fan of giant threads, for example we have discussions of the latest films, tv shows and books all slung in three giant topics. There's numerous others as well. I tend to think I'm on my own in thinking it restricts discussion at times and only make sure it never happens in the LCFC forum these days.

Whether it would make a difference or not who knows, but certainly is going to restrict the number of new topics to discuss.

Definitely not alone on that. I look at other forums and they're populated by one thread on one broad topic (one thread for each player discussion, one thread for the manager etc) hundreds of pages long and it looks boring. I prefer your way of having a higher turnover of discussion, it may look unruly at times but it promotes better and fresh debates.

Yeah almost every football forum is set up that way, the same old topics with 1000s of posts that are active day by day. I've always been against it happening on here.

GC just isn't as creative or as wacky as it was when I first joined in 2007 - but it's not as cvntish as it used to be either. Duller but kinder IMO.

Still get the odd nugget of a thread like the Foxy Cheerleaders and The Face of Kinder but they are few and far between.

Thought Tinder was refreshing and funny at first but the joke wore a bit thin for me eventually.

I like the Transfer Forum best now when the window is open except those bits when posters name their eleven if we signed Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo.

It says under your avatar you joined in 2012. Who were you before?

i liked the idea of separating the politics. It meant I could ignore it easier. Now I ignore General Chat and become a lurker. There is only so many times that one can be called ignorant before it loses the humour factor. I am now just a lurker and look at the threads that interest me. I mean how many different type of car or food threads can there be?

And BTW I have always been the same person. I do not try to gain attention by having multiple accounts. There are plenty of other places to post stuff. I am also spending more time doing other things. FT was taking over my life. It's been hard because I like most posters but it had to be done.

I feel whoever peeled this off and made it it's own thread should merge it back with grinds my gears and not be so trigger happy, though that's just me.

These threads moaning about the forum changing pop up every other year and they're always just daft. Wasn't worth making it a thing.

End of the day, we all still here, right? It can't be that bad. Forum in as good shape as its ever been. Credit to Mark for that.

In all honesty, this period (past few months or so), probably, is the best Foxestalk ever had - in terms of user popularity (and revenue?).

Just that it's very fast-paced on here now, that everything or anyone's posts etc can't be controlled effectively.

Regarding the Ticket threads, could it be a good idea for an existing ticket staff member at the ground to answer all/most ticketing enquiries, by logging on here? As some posters appear well-confused with what's what on ticket situations.

I don't know why all the lamenting - the messageboard has been changing for years and will continue to do so. It's called evolution.

Imagine what the OS messageboard looked like in the years prior to 2003! :D (Does anybody have a screenshot by any chance?)

Sure, you could mourn the loss of some older and established posters, but life takes its toll at times, be it due to family reasons, job situation, age (some people just grow out of Foxestalk, sadly), a lack of time or a rising disinterest or steady disenfranchisement from the site and the majority of its users. It happens.

The forums have grown so much over the years and the promotion and subsequent title challenge have certainly added to the overall growth in members.

Just go with the flow, partake in activities/threads that you enjoy and continue to be a valuable part of FT society. :)

My only hope is we're not going to be overrun by Algerian spam like the LCFC Facebook page does...

Even if I don't always agree with you, I don't think your opinions are ignorant. Please keep posting.

The forum was probably at it's best (imo) the season we were relegated to league 1.

The gen chat was more varied and interesting in the early days because we were all new to each other and there was a lot of probing funny subjects, I even had one on how you wiped your  arse, from the front or rear? but you can't  repeat thread subjects easily  because  you'll  get told we've  already  had a thread on that, probably by me, Why don't  we swap the kop for the family stand being the classic. All the related funnies have also been said.

So to an extent we've  run out of ideas for new subjects.

As for the football there's massive of negative language to choose  from for when we were crap and there was always someone to take the piss out at the club to ease the pain.

Success can get a bit boring to talk about after a while so you tend to sit back and enjoy the moment.

I'd agree with that - almost as though the quality of the chat is inverse to the quality of the football.

Then if Top and Vichai are to be believed the quality of General Chat is going to get much worse. :revenge:

Bloody hell, if we win the Champions League we'll see some of the prize idiots on here embraced as deities.

Not that I care, based on the PL win, I'll be pissed for a month.
