With mash and peas it's absolute scenes. This is old people food? I have faggots at least once a week, absolutely amazing with any sort of potato and West country sauce or onion gravy. They eat anything don't they? Then again I suppose we would if we grew up in bomb shelters full of corned beef, I still think a lot of them went to war for a decent meal, those doggy bags were often decent and maybe sometimes surprising.

I haven't had it in ages because I can't seem to get Sutherland's anywhere. Hope they've not gone out of business.
Webbo Posted 7 September 2016 Posted 7 September 2016 My missus makes her own potted meat with leftovers from the Sunday roast (when we have beef obviously), lovely on toast.

Take your pineapple rings and shove em where the sun don't shine. I was ready to rep till you starting slagging the pineapple off. A bit of griddled pineapple is nice with gammon Gammon, bacon, sausages, ham, pork chops, crackling, ribs... the pig has got to earn some major lifetime achievement award soon.
Izzy Posted 7 September 2016 Posted 7 September 2016 I'm still partial to a Fray Bentos steak and kidney pie that comes in a tin - but not sure if that's classed as 'old people' food?

I'd not tasted a Murray mint since the 1970s - since I was a little lad and my Dad used to take me round to the old lady next door, trying to get me interested in rugby, as she had a TV and we didn't (he failed in this mission). They're surprisingly tasty. Maybe each generation acquires a taste for Murray mints as they turn elderly? Murray Mints Murray Mints Too good to hurry mint Why make haste when you can taste the hint of mint in Murray mints Perhaps a thread on old advertising songs

I think that makes us officially enemies Mr. Jermaine Jenas in a Canoe or whatever your name is. At least Izzy, Strokes and Country know where it's at. Ps. You forgot black & white pudding.

Not even in curries or apple sauce or anything. Go away fruit and be gone with you to fruit salads and all things dessert.

DB11 Posted 7 September 2016 Posted 7 September 2016 Corn beef hash. Although my only association with that being old people food is my granddad eats it and is the one that introduced me to it Similar with Fray Bentos pies
Mike Oxlong Posted 7 September 2016 Posted 7 September 2016 Soggy biscuits. The type OAPs dunk cos they're easier to gum than bite on. Not the type saturated from a soggy biscuit contest but something like a choccy hobnob dunked in tea or coffee

To be fair a lot of people nowadays are pretty picky when it comes to offal and the likes (gotta admit liver isn't my taste). Funnily enough they'll eat the chicken bones and miscellaneous shite they put in McNuggets though.

Lemon chicken Pork and apple Beef and tomato Ikea meatballs and dingdongberry Horse and kiwi You're missing out OOOH OOOH Bovril. Not really a food but Bovril is proper old man and I love it especially at really cold football matches. It keeps your hands warm then you get a beef flavour that quenches your thirst. It's the Victorinox of beverages

The key point here is don't put a gross ring of soggy pineapple on a perfectly good bit of gammon. Or on a pizza. Basically pineapple can get to fuch.

My mate once described gammon as "piss-soaked ham", I nearly punched him.
Finnaldo Posted 7 September 2016 Posted 7 September 2016 Bovril's an absolute shout! Remember going football with me grandad and his cup of bovril, top stuff!
Carl the Llama Posted 7 September 2016 Posted 7 September 2016 Marmalade on toast. Never seen a young person buy marmalade.
davieG Posted 7 September 2016 Posted 7 September 2016 Tripe is the worst I've ever tried to eat I puked up after the first mouthful, next is gorganzola cheese.
Wymsey Posted 7 September 2016 Posted 7 September 2016 Scones (or 'Scons' like my Nan would say) with jam and butter. Nice treat now and then.
