MurphyMagic Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 WOW! That was tough to watch. Ranieri got it very wrong today, we were completely outnumbered and out fought in the middle. We need to go forward with 4-5-1 or 3-5-2 to ensure we protect our incredibly slow defence. Very disappointed with our transfer dealings, should of spent 30m on a centre midfielder not another centre forward. Ranieri obviously doesn't rate Musa if he wanted Slimani as well. Also I'd be happy if we sent Hernandez back to Spain now, terrible player. Focus on the Champions League now
twister Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 Hi lads gooner visiting I am not one to talk as we were incredibly fortunate again with refs again to win today with a dubious pen and dont look great. But I did not recognize you today, the shape was split , disorganized and you fell into liverpools high pressing game. I hope a few bollockings were dished out post match, being such a close set off lads I am sure they were, get back on the horse next week and get three points.

BoyJones Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 Reminded me of the Stoke game away last season with the diagonal pass for the first goal and the Wes mistake for their second goal. Was hoping for a 2-2, but not to be. The challenge for us this year is not replacing Kante, but finding a different way to play now most teams set up so much deeper when playing us. Look at Hull and Swansea, always numbers at the back, difficult for our pace to pay off. Ok not the top five, including Liverpool, but everyone below 6th 7th place last season will pay us loads of respect and also treble / quadruple mark Mahrez. If we finish top eight this season then CR will have really proven himself as more than a one hit wonder. We will suffer more defeats on the road this season, but as long as we are tidy at home, we can approach the CL and cup competitions with plenty of confidence.

We are just going to have to rough this out I feel until January and hope that we have enough to hover around midtable in the league and maybe progress in the champions league. Because if we don't, no ones coming to us in January. Why oh why didn't we just buy what we needed over the summer. The defence isn`t being made to look worse because Kante has gone, we are just seeing the defence as it is in reality, without Kante in front of them, to offer them the protection. Our biggest failing in the transfer window was not trying to replace Kante with a like minded defensive midfielder. Don`t get me wrong, we were never going to get a player as good as Kante, at what he does, but we should certainly have brought someone in, who can offer some protection to our ageing centre backs. Even on the last day of the window, we were trying to bring in an attack minded box to box midfielder, rather than a defensive one. A couple of days earlier, we were being linked with Nzonzi, which made perfect sense to me, but then that one seemed to just fade away. I honestly don`t think we can go on playing with 2 in midfield, with the current midfielders we have, certainly against the better teams anyway, or else we are going to take some more hammerings against those teams.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 Even barca have a bad day... just like today
BenTheFox Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 I'm as disappointed as anyone today, but let's not panic just yet. We're four games into the season. We've looked decent in our two home games this season. Let's just hope we resolve the issues one way or another. Admittedly I do think we really missed a trick in not signing another central midfielder.

My biggest disappointment is that as a club, our tactics and recruitment hasn't acknowledged this.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 Pretty poor today, let's hope it gives them all a kick up the backside.

ARM1968 Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 Bad result. Bad day at the office for most. Let's see how we react to this. the boys have my whole hearted support, but they have to step up. Forget defending a title we are unlikely to defend. Play football and collect points. We we need to see passion from the team to match ours. It was there last season. Kante didn't take the team spirit - just the heart out of our midfield.

The concerns are obvious: 1. What do we do with the midfield? Today, if Mendy was fit, Amartey wouldn't have played and we may have looked better? But if Mendy proves to be bang average, the midfield is now poor at this level. That's why we are conceding goals so freely. 2. Wtf is wrong with Mahrez? He's been pants for weeks. As in, really awful. If 1 is ok (if Mendy is ok) and if 2 improves, we'll be around 6th or 7th I think. However, if 1 and 2 remain a problem, we'll struggle. Pretty fair assessment. Having listened to the game on the radio I can't decide whether to force myself to watch the highlights on motd.
Callabinho Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 I think the management team have a lot to answer for. Leaving it until deadline day to secure your first real serious signing? Thos modest approach is going to cost us dearly, other top teams are ruthless when replacing key players, we've farted about and are now going to pay the price. Our performance today was like watching someone trying to paddle up a waterfall in a canoe, whatever we did didn't work and we looked ****ing useless. All this its one game bollocks is boring, let's face it we got smashed by a team far superior to ourselves today and that's the way the season is going to go. We had one chance to seize upon an opportunity, an oppourtinity that most other teams dream of, and we've turned up to the party with a pack of fruit shoots and an excuse to leave early.... Today was not on, Hull wasn't on, the whole pissing pre-season wasn't on, dilly ding dilly ****ing dong wake the **** up lads.

For anyone to say any of the players who helped us win the title is useless is insulting but he's no Premiership striker. His value is in the consistency of attitude and application on behalf of the team - mostly as a harrasser and willing support. Ulloa is a far better striker given the opportunity and I have to presume Slimani and Musa are too.

Foxxed Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 I've never seen us show so much promise and lose so badly. I think Ranieri has realised we can't play how we did last season without an essential part of last season. And Amartey looked like no DM replacement. If we can make five at the back work well, we could do Slimani, Vardy, Musa, Mahrez and Drinky in the middle. It all comes down to making the defence work well this season, and, unlike last, we can't rely on the world's best DM. We didn't play badly going forwards. But it's now a case of finding the right formation, unless James or whomever could come in.

RastaDog Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 I don't know if we were shit or not as I didn't see us play. We didn't get a chance to! Totally outplayed and cut to shreds. Liverpool did a number on us and we had no answers. But let's see how we respond before chucking in the towel eh?

Focks Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 We didn't play because Liverpool didn't let us.. We always play badly to teams that harry us out of possession, and once they got the ball back the runs from midfield had too much quality for us to live with. It really needed 5 in midfield today to close down the space.. If we had kept it to 0-0 at half time we may have had a chance as Liverpool seem to be a team that thrive on confidence. They were playing like like Barca at 2-0, but like Forest when it went to 2-1. Lesson learnt hopefully and plenty of games coming up to get over this one
