Izzy Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 Discussion in the CL thread got me thinking: Will supporters of other English teams want us to win tomorrow and do well in the CL? I remember when we were shite that I always wanted English teams to do well in Europe. In fact when Man Utd beat Bayern in '99 in was one of the all time great matches I can remember, and I was delighted that 'we' beat the Germans that night. So will Forest, Cov and Derby fans be behind us in our CL campaign this year do you think? What about Spurs, Arsenal, Chelski, City & Utd fans? Remember we were everyone's 'second favorite' club last year, so will the love for us continue as we represent our country in the Champions League?
StanSP Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 I think/feel like a lot of the love-in for us has worn off by fans of other clubs. I don't think people care about us as much and I get the feeling people will take more joy out of us losing or doing badly in the CL than if we were to have a good run in the competition. Maybe if we manage to get to the knockout stage and perhaps get a win then people will start believing in a fairytale again. But right now, I don't think many fans care about us . Yes the memory of last season is there, but there's so much attention on Pep/Mourinho/Conte and their clubs (even though the latter isn't even in Europe) that we're just another club again.
Spudulike Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 I'll cheer on any Euro team that plays Liverpool. BBC loving, arrogant twats.
Captain... Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 I think most of the fans of clubs outside the top 6/7 will want us to do well, or at least enjoy it if we do. The truth is though that since BT sport got the rights the viewing figures have plummeted and with it interest in the CL. So most probably won't care.

Feel quite sad reading that Stan Amazing what can change in only 4 short months I suppose... I'd like to think that most English fans (maybe excluding Spurs & Arsenal) would be right behind us and hoping we do well in the competition.
foxoffderby Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 I hate Man U and Liverpool but they aren't in Europe their clubs are fine just don't like the glory supporters. I'm happy with the others
Stadt Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 Never been one for supporting other English sides in Europe just because they're English

Tuna Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 I tend to support Celtic in the CL as they are usually the underdogs. As for other English teams, if it's an unusual team in the CL like Spurs were a few years ago I'll certainly support them. But for the established sides, no, not really. Actually it's quite amusing to see Arsenal, Chelsea and the Manchester teams struggle. I'd expect most supporters to wish us well.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 We've had our success. Now people are relishing seeing us fail. There's nothing new or especially mean about it because I'm sure we all did it ourselves last year to Chelsea or United a couple of years before.
ScouseFox Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 hope not why the fu ck should any other fans get enjoyment from our success

Monsell1976 Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 Probably not, I like English teams to do well in Europe, except Man U and arsenal. So it depends wether they dislike us, as I dislike the two clubs I mentioned.
Donut Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 I think were not really seen by anyone, including the English teams most likely, as a threat in Europe. People did follow is in the title winning season, not sure they care about us now though. Non champions league clubs fans probably will get behind us.
sylofox Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 didn't realise we had qualified for everyone else. To be honest other fans I know are wishing us well. But if most fans want us to bomb out fvck em.

Guest Col city fan Posted 14 September 2016 Posted 14 September 2016 Most opposition fans think we shouldn't even be in the Champs League and would like nothing more, I suspect, than laughing if we do really badly.

Lestoh Posted 14 September 2016 Posted 14 September 2016 I cheered like it was my own team when I was on holiday in Turkey watching United score against Schalke, just to piss off the grumpy German bloke next to us
Captain... Posted 14 September 2016 Posted 14 September 2016 2 hours ago, Col city fan said: Because we're Lester! And it's human nature, I'm sure there are plenty of fans out there who will enjoy seeing us do well, but the same fans will also enjoy it if we embarrass ourselves. Norwich in the UEFA cup beating Bayern was amazing Liverpool and United winning the Champions League were spectacular games, Leeds and even Forest cup runs of the 90s were also enjoyable as were Fulham and Middlesbrough getting to the Europa League finals but less so for obvious reasons, then there was Blackburn, first excursion to Europe lost to Trelleborgs (never to be heard of again) then they won the league and qualified for the Champions League, finished bottom of their group embarrassed themselves to the point of even fighting with each other on the pitch: I took a lot of enjoyment out of that too. Likewise the failures of Manchester clubs and Chelsea in recent times. What I'm saying is if we do well and go down fighting to Barca or Madrid in the quarters people will enjoy it, if we do shit and embarrass ourselves people will enjoy it, if we qualify second and get knocked out by Monaco or Napoli in the next round then nobody will really care.
