brucey Posted 17 September 2016 Posted 17 September 2016 Shinji Okazaki vows to win back his place in Leicester City side after missing out on Brugge clash Shinji Okazaki insists he will fight hard to reclaim his place in the Leicester City side after he was left out of the squad for the Champions League victory over Club Brugge. The Japan striker had started the last three games for Claudio Ranieri's side but was not even on the bench at the Jan Breydel Stadium as club record signing Islam Slimani replaced him to make his debut. Okazaki said he was told the news at a team meeting only a little more than two hours before kick-off on Wednesday night and admits he was hugely disappointed. "I wasn't expecting that," said Okazaki. "Champions League first match and not even on the bench. "He (Ranieri) said the day before that had a lot of thinking to do. I have been playing on a regular basis, so even the worst-case scenario for me was to be on the bench. "I felt it could be that sort of time (to be outside the bench) because we have so many forwards. The guys on the bench were those who can change the game, such as (Leonardo) Ulloa and (Ahmed) Musa when they come on. "If you think this way, then I may be the easiest player to be dropped. Had we played badly, then it would have been easier for me to get back into it, but we played well. "I haven't scored a goal for a while but I had prepared so much for this game and I really wanted to play. I was really disappointed. It is the Champions League and I was so close to be playing but in the end I was not even on the bench. "It is really difficult to take but it is good to find out how the manager sees me. I will keep my head down and work hard."
