Guest MattP Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 I don't read The Sun but I'm not signing that. Lineker is entitled to any opinion he wants to share in a free country but if he really thinks anyone questioning a refugees age on a specific child refugee policy is "racist" then he's living in a different World to everyone else. He's a big boy and can stand by his words, I'm not joining in the outrage and ban everything I disagree with culture though.
ALC Fox Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 There are many other reasons why I don't buy or read The Sun (it's full of complete s**t for one), but this kind of extreme reaction is a very Sun-like thing to do. Like calling for our Gary to be sacked for expressing his own opinion about child migrants and calling him jug-eared in the process. They can't claim to tread the moral high ground and call someone jug-eared while they do it. Personally I happen to agree with Gary on many of his points. Call me a Leftie luvvie, I ain't bovvered. I do also happen to understand concerns that some migrants might be posing as children in order to get favourable treatment. I'd be astonished if some didn't chance it. Most of these people are absolutely desperate and I feel for them all. Obviously, this latest programme is designed to reunite lonely children with a legal right to be here with their families in the UK before the camp in Calais shuts (I hate the name The Jungle). The gutter press will pour scorn over these efforts and sensationalise the fact that some of these children look older than they claim. It sells papers and generates clicks. I applaud the people who have shared pictures of themselves aged 14-16 looking older than what they were. But, I won't be signing this petition. The city of Liverpool had a real, genuine reason for refusing to buy the paper. The reason for Leicester not selling it (they criticised Gary Lineker) is pathetic in comparison. Many people concerned about immigration aren't racists. Yes, many others are.
Jock Wallace Posted 22 October 2016 Author Posted 22 October 2016 Just boycott the sun, dooont matter if you are a Liverpool fan or leicester fan.. we are all football fans and this piece of shit spreads hatred and lies..
m4DD0gg Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 Love the way these change petitions now have a donate button that essentially buys you signatures. I don't have a problem with children bring coming in but when these 'refugees' are blatantly not children it takes the ****ing piss. Neither do I have a problem with dna sampling to prove how old they are. You want in? Meet us half way then. Strikes me as odd that every single one of these refugees in this jungle can claim asylum in France but have not done so and choose to congregate in the port closest to UK. Give it a month before the ones who have come in this week have committed a serious crime in this country.

NEWSFLASH - So does every other newspaper!! As another thread that has just been made anyway, who buys newspapers in this day and age anyway! Also why is this in the Leicester City Forum section? What has politics got to do with Leicester City.
MONreborn Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 Due to its recent comments and direct attack on Gary Lineker, we believe that The Sun newspaper should never be stocked in newsagents again in Leicester. This goes hand in hand with its increasingly overtly racist treatment of both children and adults forced to flee war torn countries. Countries attacked with missiles and bombs which are manufactured in England and seemingly backed by the British government. Along with its abhorrent treatment over the Jf96. https://www.change.org/p/newspaper-stockists-of-leicester-don-t-stock-the-sun-newspaper-in-leicester-due-to-its-treatment-of-gary-lineker?recruiter=614411024&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=autopublish&utm_term=mob-xs-no_src-reason_msg I would be proud of our city if we took a stand against the newspaper which instigated division and racial hatred. Please sign this petition if you also feel the same - it would be a further unique selling point for our multicultural city (after winning the premier league and king richard) if we are shown to be taking a stand against the sun newspaper.
ithuriel Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 The road to hell is paved with good intentions, curtailing freedom of speech is easier if done with little steps I suppose
stripeyfox Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 FFS The Sun is a rag, everyone with a brain knows this. But it isn't even the worst newspaper. Those who want to buy it will continue to do so. This petition won't make any difference whatsoever Total waste of time No one cares that they treated Lineker badly (probably not even him)
Kitchandro Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 Why do you need a petition to stop buying it? People need to get over themselves. I never read newspapers and therefore are not bothered by anything that's said in them. Sadly people have a right to talk shit in this world, it doesn't begin and end with The Sun. Maybe we should have a petition against Facebook as well.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 I'd never buy or read The Sun because it appeals to the lowest common denominator in dummy culture but if you put your opinions in the public domain you have to be prepared to defend them as Lineker has.
Webbo Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 I don't agree with The Sun so I want to stop everyone else from reading it?How's this any different from saying I don't agree with Gary Lineker so he ought to be sacked? It's pathetic.
stripeyfox Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 The worst thing about this particular petition is that it is attempting to ape the self imposed ban by the people of Liverpool. We all know The Sun is not held in high regard there after Hillsborough and continues to be boycotted despite it's numerous apologies. This is fair enough. But there is no ban. There is no demand for it and therefore shops don't sell it. Now, because the Sun has "upset" poor Gary Lineker (who himself can be quite outspoken at times and also has been know to talk shite), you are expecting the people of Leicester to be outraged on your behalf? Whoever created this has had an absolute mare!
Harry - LCFC Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 Is there an opposing petition I can sign? As everyone on this thread understands, if you think the Sun isn't worth reading then you should try to persuade people of that opinion, not try to take it away as an option.
stripeyfox Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 Just now, Harry - LCFC said: Is there an opposing petition I can sign? As everyone on this thread understands, if you think the Sun isn't worth reading then you should try to persuade people of that opinion, not try to take it away as an option. Was just thinking the same! They should have an option on these change.org petitions to register an opposition to any particular petition!
lgfualol Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 Good luck trying to take The Sun away from all the fat white van men
ScouseFox Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 just don't buy it. it's taken 27 years of campaigning and pure hatred for most shops in liverpool to stop selling it, I don't think a petition is going to do much.
Nalis Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 Fan of free speech so wouldnt be in favour of a ban. The only time I ever even glance at it is when I'm waiting for food in my local takeaway yet it still baffles me how people actually believe some of the articles within. More annoyed at the stupidity of the public than the journos at the Sun in all honesty.
Samilktray Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 I'd just ban newspapers because I'd much rather look at trees than chop them down
Guest MattP Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 20 minutes ago, Webbo said: Bastard Sun readers donating millions to Syrian children in genuine need rather than virtue signalling over menchildren abusing the system. Ban them and shut them down.
Vacamion Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 But ending your opinion piece by mentioning your charitable donations is also virtue signalling, is it not? Bloody virtue signalling everywhere. Thank god I care about immigrants and give a lot to charity...
The Railway Man Posted 22 October 2016 Posted 22 October 2016 I can't believe how many people have got the wrong end of the stick or just have not looked at the story properly. Lineker isnt being criticised for "sticking up for refugees", he is being criticised for calling people who wants age tests racist and for then spreading misinformation to try and back up his point, of course he's going to get abuse from the press if he does that sort of thing. He's always spouted left wing bollocks on Twitter but he's gone full on Brand now, I think the public really are now getting sick of this virtue signalling from millionaire celebs, it's literally occuring every ****ing day now.
