What's his goals per minute? Must be the best in the squad surely. Liked that he played deeper in the Okazaki role today. I think that's where we need him and if he can gel well with Vardy and work hard linking up our midfield and wingers / Vardy plus get in to the box for crosses I think he'll be an improvement on our beloved Japanese tbh. Slimani is quicker getting the ball out of his feet and finding the wingers when he comes deep to get the ball. He's also obviously a bit stronger. First time I've really see him drop in and sit deeper than Vardy today and it really paid off. Nice cameo. More of that please.
USFox Posted 4 April 2017 Posted 4 April 2017 So........ok maybe I was wrong about this one. Great stuff Slim!
Guest the fox Posted 4 April 2017 Posted 4 April 2017 Fun fact: slimani is only one goal away from having the same PL goal tally as okazaki, and this was his first year, he was injured for a long time, played in the CAN and only started 11 games.

I agree with your last point. I love seeing our players come back to form, here's hoping we surprise A-Madrid in the Champions League.

Well for all intents and purposes he is a first option striker while Okazaki is more of a high-work rate forward in a sense. I think both fit their roles well.

Matt Posted 4 April 2017 Posted 4 April 2017 Took his goal well, bout time!! Maybe i'm being too harsh and expecting too much but think he should have done better with 1 or 2 other chances he had, for £30m (And that's what it keeps boiling down to) I don't think i'm being harsh or expecting too much of him though! That said he's probably shown more of what he could do tonight than i've seen so far.

He can be frustrating sometimes but if we play a bit to his strength we will get goals out of him. He's got 6 PL goals in 11 starts (I think). Not bad for a first season.

He has so much gravity its amazing, the left side (Fuchs and Marc) had a lot of time to cross because he demands attention from the the CBs, its like a domino effect, if the CB are tighter the fullbacks will try to overcompensate and that leaves more space for the wingers to work.
Clever Fox Posted 4 April 2017 Posted 4 April 2017 Scored tonight as I expected. He's clearly working on his game and learning the English way of playing. Worked hard tonight and nice to see him sharpen up his game in time for Madrid. Growing in confidence and played Vardy in for a nice chance, So they can play together.

Another fun fact, we won the league with Okazaki as a mainstay in the team. They aren't the same player in the slightest.

Its as clear as day the tactics have changed and to say the players simply weren't trying is unfair - the players weren't comfortable with the tactics Ranieri was trying and trying to change it last season was crazy and ultimately was the reason he got sacked. Absolutely and in a nutshell. Pity the media couldn't seem to grasp it,
Thracian Posted 4 April 2017 Posted 4 April 2017 Slimani not only showed his predatory instincts tonight but seemed to be a willing worker and contributor all round. Pleased he scored and seemed an integral part of the team. If it stays that way he'll be another big bonus.

Because he offers goals, and if he can at least do some of the work Okazaki do, with the bonus of scoring goals, it is better having him on the pitch. But he needs play time to improve. And at the moment I think it is better to have Okazaki at starter.
USFox Posted 4 April 2017 Posted 4 April 2017 24 minutes ago, the fox said: Isn't vardy the first choice striker? Or do you refer to strikers that can actually score by "first choice" Well that's actually a great question and its also a question I had when we bought Slimani. I mean that he is meant to be a first striker, as in your first choice striker. I actually thought when we bought Slimani it was either to alternate him with Vardy because we were in the Champions League in order to ensure that Vardy didn't get injured or that Vardy would move to the Okazaki role and we would be beating teams by 3-4 goals a game.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 4 April 2017 Posted 4 April 2017 I agree that Slim will get you 20 goals in a season, if he is a regular. Delighted to see him playing well again. That little push on Kone was a thing of beauty...
foxoffderby Posted 4 April 2017 Posted 4 April 2017 Slimani was very good today. Not sure about the goal celebration.
FoxesFan94 Posted 4 April 2017 Posted 4 April 2017 Really happy for him. Hope he scores a few more this season (including the winning goal in the CL final),
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 April 2017 Posted 4 April 2017 One thing was absolutely clear tonight. He was well up for playing! You could see it as soon as he came on the pitch. There was no sulkiness or slacking tonight. Good on him.
murphy Posted 4 April 2017 Posted 4 April 2017 45 minutes ago, the fox said: A goal every 168.5 minutes, pretty decent I guess. Better than 1 in 2. Almost 2 in 3 which is actually a brilliant strike rate. I do rate him as a goalscorer, but not convinced he is the right fit for us and vice versa.

And at the moment I think it is better to have Okazaki at starter. I'm not really bothered who starts - I'm just delighted we seem to be a unified team again and that Shakespeare is gradually but fairly involving others and allowing them to show their best too. The difference in mood seems quite staggering but is reflected by the manager himself. He clearly has a sense of humour but doesn't try to be clever, he answers questions willingly and always gives credit to those around him and I don't think that's just diplomacy, I think he really understands the idea of teamwork in its broadest sense and how important it is in the search for success. It must be a great club to be playing for again and I'm so excited about the possibilities if we can keep this atmosphere and build on it.
