les-tah Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 who was the last 19 year old defender that impressed you in a competitive premier league or champions league game? That is a genuine question? ^^ (i dont remember any/many)

Done the same against PSG in the summer
Guest Danny Clender Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Has he started in the Champions League before?
tyfox Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 He's not a defender that's for sure. He gets turned and beaten so easily it's crazy. Send him on loan to a championship club
Darkon84 Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Some of the worst position/tracking I've seen for quite some time, only rivalled by the equally poor Schlupp.

The guy has been good in the academy and I'm told great and safe to play alongside. He does need more game time though another level. Worrying that him and Shlupp are the only left back cover My nan could look good in our academy. Exceptional games, I'll give you that, but I can only judge him on the games I've seen him play, and he was doggo in those games. Basic mistakes don't just appear because we're playing someone good.
Lionator Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Blimey, this league win has turned us into a cynical lot. Sometimes players can step up straight away, sometimes they need time. He's 19 years old ffs, he's not even close to being the finished article.

Absolutely this, that's not the action of a quality defender, he should be prepared to hurt and bleed for the team. It's not the first time I've seen him do this.
shiv Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 As I've mentioned in another thread, he didn't exactly get any help from Gray or Schlupp. Having said that, his defending was schoolboy at times and he was at fault for at least 3 of the 5 goals. Hopefully he'll learn from it.
Bayfox Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Don't get the hype and don't see he will ever make it too the top of the game as he lacks what most modern day full backs need. Pace. He seems so easy to go past its untrue and right now he doesn't seem to have the attributes to make up for that.
dynamark Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 David Nish ? Have to agree that Chilwell doesn't look like a prem player in the making.

He's been at the academy for many years and reached a level that had Liverpool chasing him. What is worrying is, yes other than the odd player the Acadamy and development are not that great. Even more, worrying is the whole side make schoolboy errors and the value of individuals must have plummeted. Something is not right outside of the 90 mins we see.
Stevosevic Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Never impressed me in the cup games he's played. I can see why he hasn't made his premier league debut yet. Fuchs is way above his level. Let's hope he improves
foxy boxing Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Can't believe top Premier league clubs were after him! maybe needs to go on loan to a Championship club and see how he does. the coaching staff certainly need to look at his development

I still find it hard to believe and if it's anything even close to £5k a week already, having not had a premier league start (I think) then we really need to sort our backroom staff out.

He's on well over 5k a week. If the top players earn 100k a week. Average ones 45k a week. 25k a week is what the agent will ask for and get. He's never going to make it, he thinks he already has and he's already a guaranteed millionaire
foxinsocks Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 I might be old fashioned. ... but while these guys mitger about money when meeting their agents etc.... u presune tgat tgey want to play and do tgeir best when the whistle goes. My worry is that he look well iff the pace last night.... he blew a big chance

On a brighter note though, I thought Ulloa looked good when he came on. He changed the game for us and looked like the only person who wanted to take his chance. Unlucky not to score too.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 It's fine to have a poor game and make errors when you're a kid coming through. Not so fine when you've played hardball with the club over a new contract and are being paid £25k+ per week. Better performances than that last night should be expected.
