Stadt Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Where has the hype came from? I'm not just singling him out based on today's performance but he really can't defend and it doesn't matter if he's 19 or not because we can't persist with him getting skinned every time a winger takes him on until he finally learns how to perform basic defensive actions.
filbertway Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Not seen the game tonight but I was worried for him when he started. So harsh on him and a few others that they get tossed in the dregs and don't get a chance to play with first teamers. Huddersfield thought he was great last season, so im inclined to go with their opinion after seeing him on a regular basis rather than when Ranieri wants to give him his random 1 appearance in 6 months. Probably still has a way to go, but hes 19 and hasn't been given much of a chance. Seems harsh to call the lad out.
Mark Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 He'd have been better off staying on loan at Huddersfield and learning his trade instead of coming back and hardly playing any competitive football in 12 months.
Patrick Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Chilwell needs to go back out on loan in January, he just isn't getting enough senior football to develop and is bound to be rusty when he's dropped in the deep end once every few months.

He'll improve but it's just how easily players go past him that's worrying regardless of experience
EnglishOxide Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Hasn't he been injured aswell as not playing? Like Mendy, he gets a free pass. He's allowed one bad performance under those circumstances.
VLC86 Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 You can't judge a 19 year old that gets thrown into his first match in months against an experienced European team needing a result. Yes he was well out of his depth but for the reasons above that doesn't make me think he won't make it.
AYLESBURY FOX 1961 Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 The way he turned his back for their second goal just tells me he isnt a defender - he has to have the instinct to block the ball not try to get out of the way of the bloody thing! - took me back to the reverse fixture at our place where albrighton put his body on the line and semi blocked a porto shot onto the post and saved a certain goal.
TJB-fox Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Young player who appears once in 6 months, playing in a reserve side for an under performing team away in the champions league, plays badly- shocker do him much better going out in the championship for a year, or 2....

I agree but he was really really bad! Definitely need to consider shipping him out on loan for another year. Means we need to sign a new LB to cover Fuchs, but Chilwell will cost us games if he plays like that for us. Would still like to see him against Everton in the Cup, just to give him another chance, as I'm baffled to why he has had such hype around him, so must be something there. Another shocker, and I'd be happy for him to be loaned out!
inckley fox Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 I've seen him a few times and honestly can't see the potential. If he's got serious potential, then there are loads of players across the top three divisions who also have serious potential. It must be a case of all those people who've seen him 500 times more than me having spotted something I haven't, I suppose. He was miserable tonight though. Switched off constantly, and hardly seemed like he was fighting for a starting place. When managers change sides around you normally see this - a drop in collective quality but a surge in determination - but it's obvious that nobody, Chilwell included, is knocking on the door of our (marginally less awful) first team.
Lambert09 Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 He does have potential, champions league potential, no. Not on the showings ive seen so far, but in time he will be a very capable premiership defender.
bpfox Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 my grandmother turns quicker than him , was one of the worst efforts I think I have ever seen from a so called pro footballer. we should have taken the 8 million for him now hes worth zero dollars.
Donut Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 I can only ever remember him playing poorly in a Leicester shirt to be honest. We can talk about his lack of experience and the situation tonight etc, but a player of genuine potential would still be showing something positive, even glimpses, in the limited opportunities they get. Look at all great prospects around the Premier League....Rashford, Ihaenacho, Alli, several southampton players..........they show quality immediately, it doesnt take them loan spells and lots of games to grow into the side. You can see something is clearly there already. With Chilwell im not convinced.
cgsutton69 Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Let's be honest we probably need a left back, a right back, 2 centre backs, 1 defensive midfielder and 1 midfielder who can run with the ball from the middle of the park. is the Ranieri 18 month curse hitting us

shawy2510 Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Sure he doesn't get many games but everytime he does he seems to play badly. Personally I don't think hes as good as they make out.
Guest Col city fan Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Why do so many people claim that (add young kid here) is 'fantastic' before they've really seen them play? Where do you get your info from? Nearly every time I've seen Chilwell play, I'd say I'd have him nowhere near the first team. I wanted to see him have a chance last night. But after what I've seen, I'm not impressed. AGAIN...what the fook has the club done over the summer? It's unbelievable that we've left ourselves so lightweight in options. E.g. Fuchs gets injured...who do we replace him with? Chilwell or Schlupp? Come on.....
Fox92 Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 He's not going to learn or progress playing one game every 6 months and the rest of the time sitting in the reserves. He must have something because Liverpool bid but he'd have been better staying at Huddersfield on loan.
lgfualol Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Needs loaning out. I don't think he suits our negative play style, he is supposed to be great going forward.
FireFox Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 Like Vardy, we should have sold him. Could have bought that Benjamin Mendy who went to Monaco.
Innovindil Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 He was doggo. Just like he was doggo when we played Chelsea in the cup. He's young, but I doubt he'll ever reach the level the hype promises.
Buzzell Posted 8 December 2016 Posted 8 December 2016 He looked well out of his depth last night but what do you expect? He's young, unexperienced and gets chucked in the deep end after coming back from injury.

The guy has been good in the academy and I'm told great and safe to play alongside. He does need more game time though another level. Worrying that him and Shlupp are the only left back cover
