Claudio Ranieri is facing an FA charge along with Leicester City for the club’s incredible first-half meltdown at Stoke.

Ranieri had to be dragged away from referee Craig Pawson at half-time after England striker Jamie Vardy had been sent off – although the Italian claimed he kept his mouth zipped.

The Foxes could also be punished for failing to control their players after six yellow cards and one red during their 2-2 draw.

Ranieri had to be pulled back by keeper Kasper Schmeichel as he confronted Pawson, but insisted: “I said nothing.

“I just wanted to show to our fans I was there. I went to our fans and I said support us on the pitch.

I was angry (at the referee) because I saw my players fight and there were so many yellow cards, but it was a normal battle in the Premier League.

“It could be a turning point today, but we have to wait and see the next matches.”

There were also claims stewards had ducked away from coins thrown at Pawson by fans, but Ranieri said: “I didn’t see any coins. I think it was normal.”

Vardy was dismissed in the 28th minute for a two-footed lunge at Stoke’s Mame Diouf – a decision Ranieri said his club may appeal.

“I don’t know. I will speak with club and see. If it possible, yes. He wanted to challenge and get the ball.”

But Stoke boss Mark Hughes felt Pawson’s decision was correct and added: “People are saying he was pushed, but it looked to me like two straight legs, and he was out of control and off the ground.

“There have a couple like that recently that have caused debate. This this one, I thought the ref got it right.”

It's practically lese majeste these days.

FA - a quick 'open letter' - how about instead of worrying about Ranieri you pull your ****ing fingers out for once and get rid of all these absolutely shit referees.

What a joke. Rather than looking at us for failing to control our players, why not look at pawson losing control and trying to regain it by handing out cards like he'd decided to become a postie. We've already been punished once by having him as ref, why a second punishment for him being incompetent.

From a neutral perspective it would be a joke if he got off with nothing while Mourinho got a touchline ban and a hefty fine for kicking a water bottle

Comparing the record of the two over the last season or so, I'd say Ranieri deserves more grace.

Has he ever had a pop at a ref? And we've been on some poor decisions like all teams.

And THIS is why there is no respect for referees. This all fuels the us v them culture when it comes to refs. Ranieri will get fined for totally justified actions whilst Pawson, despite two disgracefully inept, borderline suspicious performances will go unpunished.

Agree the record should mean he will be okay but I think (could be wrong) that Mourinho's punishment was solely based on the bottle circumstance and had nothing to do with previous actions, and if that's the case the inconsistency in the FA would show again by letting Claudio off.

Not sure why I'm trying to argue this as I hope and believe Ranieri will have no punishment

Well, he kicked a bottle (he was in no control as to where that bottle would flip) over not being given a penalty for his player diving.

Ranieri wasnt happy with the referee sending his player off incorrectly.

the FA need to be more human when the reactions are undertandable.

Massively agree with this

Ranieri deserves huge credit

he is a true gent especially when most managers moan about literally ****ing everything

The ref acted impulsively in the dismissal of JV and 5 cautions in little over as many minutes.

He failed to exercise common sense and appeared to lose control of the game.

Half time came at the right time not only for City but for the ref.

Albrighton card - correct

king card - correct

simpson card - he carried on arguing his point so referee entitled to book him for dissent.

slimani card - no idea hat he said so can't say whether dissent or not. He did wave his arm at the ref

fuchs card - didn't see what happened. Did he throw the ball down?  If so, then it's dissent.

huth card - was a lunge but would need to see it from another angle to see if there was contact

given that huth and fuchs are a card away from a ban and two home games to come before the end dec change kicks in, Claudio should be very upset that two experienced pros picked up those cards.

As as long as he didn't use incorrect language then claudio should escape punishment.

the club will will be fined re six bookings and warned re future conduct.

Granted I was watching on a potato but looked like he got the ball to me?!

Given that Ranieri has generally complimented refs in the toughness of their jobs even when we've had stonewall decisions go against us ala Tottenham and Arsenal this season, it really does show with some clarity what a joke pawson was today to cause the don to lose his cool. I said at half time I'd be happy with ranieri and the lads beating pawson up in the car park.

Ranieri needs to state his case to the FA that Pawson has displayed a massive amount of inconsistency in the last week in terms of his refereeing and that he completely altered the course of this match. It was he who created an explosive environment and it's not surprising that the team on the receiving end of his inconsistent behaviour lost control.

It really isn't hard to grasp from where I'm standing. Quite simply, if you know emotions are running high between individuals yet you provoke them and their response is to unwittingly lose control, it is you who is the true culprit. But what we are seeing is the provoked having to endure yet more punishment???!

Why oh why can't Ranieri and the club point this out to the FA?! Cite the inconsistency for one, hell, I keep mentioning it but why not bring up the way Southampton succesfully appealed Mane's red card vs Stoke in March?  He was running at full pelt, leapt for the ball and accidentally butted Pieters in mid-air but got reinstated in time for the next match FFS!!

The lunatics really have taken over the asylum.

I'd Ranieri, if who kept his cool after the Atkinson and Moss cluster****s last year, is having a pop, you're probably best off wondering if the referee needs punishing rather than the manager.

Thanks for clearing that up Craig.

While Pawson gets away with consecutive charges of lacking basic competence in his career. Bizarre.
