David Hankey Posted 22 December 2016 Posted 22 December 2016 Crystal Palace have sacked Pardew this afternoon, which has come as no surprise. He is an appalling manager and did his best to get Newcastle relegated before jumping ship. No time for the bloke, always berating referees when it is patently obvious his decisions and behaviour have been his downfall.

Webbo Posted 22 December 2016 Posted 22 December 2016 Getting the sack just before Xmas, what a bastard. It's not like they're going to get anyone in before Boxing Day. Couldn't they have waited?

Back in the 80s, I got laid off from the ferries on Xmas Eve.... Then on New Year's Eve, as I was serving my notice, I was stopped by Customs, who raided my flat, seized all my illicit gin and Old Holborn, gave me a big fine - and under-declared the seizure, the bent bastards!

Couldn't they have waited? Probably not. Just get rid if you don't rate someone, a caretaker might galvanise the squad for a couple of games.

He wasn't as bad as Newcastle fans made out with final positions being 12th, 5th, 16th, and 10th. When he left them in January 2015 they were 10th again with 27 points. They finished that season in 15th with 39 points. So they managed to get 12 points from 18 games without him.
Dan Posted 22 December 2016 Posted 22 December 2016 Had to go. Weird timing but correct decision. I've never rated the bloke.
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 December 2016 Posted 22 December 2016 It's a results business. Pardews record in 2016 is I think, the worst in all four divisions? Tailor made for Allardyce.

Donut Posted 22 December 2016 Posted 22 December 2016 The new man at Palace should be able to turn them around, have plenty going forwards and if they can be made more solid at the back they have a decent side. Pardew being an ex player and popular to their fans probably bought him a little more time but they shouldnt really be in a relegation battle IMO

Finished mid table with Palace last season and led them to an FA Cup final. Is that not good enough for a club the size of Palace?

Lots of kids get excited by watching their 'heroes' play football and all this, that and the other, whereas in reality, the whole thing has become obscene. The worst is the Chinese Super League where Tevez is off to play for Shanghai I think, 'earning' (that's a joke in itself) a reported 620 k PER WEEK. For a 32 yr old. That's over a million every fortnight. Someone had worked it out on the radio earlier today. I've forgotten what it came to per hour, but it was some ridiculous amount. When you think say, a Staff Nurse earns 21k per year after qualifying, you can kinda see how wrong the whole thing has become. Someone 'in the know' told me earlier today that all the City squad, when they flew to Thailand earlier this year (I think they said Thailand) were given 10k just to spend in the duty free shop. Ok, King Power own most of the duty free shops, but even so...here you are lads, on top of your salaries and your free cars, here's 10 k to buy some jewelry, chocolate and booze with. Its hardly surprising the players are removed from reality is it.

Tuna Posted 22 December 2016 Posted 22 December 2016 Pardew is a 100% willy puller. You can see why the Newcastle fans hated him. Smug, arrogant, nasty and a terrible, terrible manager. Whast else can yous say?

21st Century Fox Posted 22 December 2016 Posted 22 December 2016 Quote ‘Let me tell you a story. In fact, it’s called the ‘King story’ among those who were present and who believe it’s a perfect example of Pardew’s arrogance. We were staying at a hotel in the North East ahead of a game at Sunderland during Alan’s first season in charge and were about to have our Friday evening meal…I sat down with Pardew…and fitness coach Tony Strudwick, who now works for Manchester United and has done very well for himself. We ordered our meals and suddenly Pardew asked us all what were were having. I think Eddie said he’d gone for the chicken, while I’d chosen the steak. ‘Pards then turned to Struds, who revealed whatever it was he’d asked for. ‘That sounds good,’ said Pards. ‘Tell you what; if yours is better than mine when it turns up, I’m having that. That was one of the things he’d always say: I’m having that. ‘See that bloke’s haircut. I’m having that.’ He said it all the time. Anyway, I wasn’t ‘having that’ at all. So I said ‘Well, you’re certainly not having my dinner. You’ll get a fork in the back of your hand!’ Pardew sort of laughed, before turning back to Struds and saying, ‘Yeah, if yours is better than mine, I’m having that.’ ‘Our meals eventually arrived and Pards looked at Tony and said, ‘Yeah, I was right, yours definitely looks much better than mine; I’m having that.’ And he went to swap the plates over. ‘You can’t do that!’ I said. ‘What do you mean?’ he asked. ‘You can’t just take somebody’s else’s dinner,’ I said in disbelief. And he replied, without any hint of a joke, ‘When you’re the King, you can do anything.’
