Chico1958 Posted 5 March 2017 Posted 5 March 2017 Get as many points as we can finish in a respectable position This might get everybody off our back reqarding Claudio Then as somebody has already mentioned: Plan a proper pre-season Offload the players that no longer fit our future plans Get very very drunk if we're still up Get very very drunk if we go down Win Win for me Ps: I still respect the man
Grewks Posted 5 March 2017 Posted 5 March 2017 Looking at alternative systems and trying out different players is more important long-term, that a few more points being the difference between say 13th and 14th. Let's say (and hope) that we are safe with 3 games left. Wouldn't it be wise to use those games as a 'pre'pre-season sort of thing? See what we have and see what we need. Gives us an early start for the following season. I wouldn't be against throwing in a few youngsters to see what they've got, it seems to bode well for Southampton.
Captain... Posted 5 March 2017 Posted 5 March 2017 We do need to address the aging centre backs issue. It would seem a good time to do that. We also need to be giving young players, like Chilwell, Gray, Kaputska more playing time or they will leave. Slimani, Mendy, Musa also deserve the chance to play in a fired up hard working team to prove themselves. I wouldn't make wholesale changes just give the squad players a chance to prove their worth to the fans and their teammates before the end of the season.

mozartfox Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Given the prize money allocation in the EPL, we must try to finish as high as we can and use the cash to up-grade Rudders and his Pigeon.

Bossman Blessed It Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 It's going to need a very good run of form for us to be mathematically safe with a few games to spare. If so, the title winning season showed that momentum carries from the previous year, so it's essential we keep winning. There are very few players in our squad that should consider themselves irreplaceable and we should play a full strength team to really assess where improvements need to be made over the summer.

Yep, our pre-season when Ranieri took over (after the orgy bit) was ideal. Small games for everyone to get fit without pressure. I swear some of our players did not complete a full 90 minutes in our last pre-season because of that shite cup we took part in.
mikey54 Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Give the job to Shakey. Get the scouting system off their asses with a clear agenda of what's needed and get the targets in quickly ...and on a personal note, I'll breathe more easily
Riyad_Suarez Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Could we swap the Kop with the family stand and see how we get on?
ALC Fox Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 I'd want us to finish as high up the league as possible, get as much money as we can and take some momentum into next season. I think there would also be room to include Barnes, Ndukwu and Iversen in one or two matchday squads and maybe even give them some minutes as long as we're not 4-0 down away from home.
Finnegan Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Last game, if we're safe, take the season tickets off anyone seen wearing a "Ranieri tribute scarf" between now and then, play Wasyl for his final game and invite 100 odd maniac Belgians to fill the seats and send him off properly.
Thracian Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 It's a recurring theme but this idea of giving fringe players game time in matches that don't matter much, is flawed in general. The question being asked of such players is not whether they've got the ability to play alongside first team footballers. That should already have been fully established on the training ground What's in question is whether the fringe player can cope with the pressure, pace and competitive focus required for real games at Premiership level, not once, but time and again. So really, the bigger the game the better and the more often the better because, once those barriers have been cleared, you really will no if you've got a winner or a choker.
burleighfox Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 I agree with the idea in principle but I would prefer we remain focussed on as strong a league finish as possible to maintain some kind of positive momentum. Perhaps the odd change but nothing too over adventurous would be fine and maybe just freshen the bench up with the likes of Lawrence, Barnes etc. if they are available. We have to remain professional from here on out and can't really afford to rest on our laurels too much.
