Leicester Riders secured the BBL Championship title for the second year running with a 99-69 victory over Plymouth Raiders tonight.- the first time in their history they have won back-to-back titles.

Rob Paternostro's side turned on the style in the second half to pull away for their 26th win of the league campaign.

The title was secured by Riders with four games of the season still left.

Conner Washington produced a late blitz from downtown to finish with a team-high 18 points in a typically balanced scoring attack from Riders.

Shane Walker scored eight points early on as Leicester edged the opening period before the visitors kept pace and went into half-time level having led by as many as six at 33-39.

Leicester stepped things up on defence in the third period, holding their opponents to just seven points as they opened up a 17-point advantage.

A 16-0 run gave the Riders control and they pushed on in the final period with Washington knocking down four triples as the party started early in the closing minutes.

Tyler Bernardini stepped up as captain to lift the BBL Championship title for the club's second piece of silverware this season.

Riders are back in action on Sunday at London Lions, and play Newcastle Eagles home and away on Wednesday and Friday before ending the season against Worcester Wolves a week on Sunday..

Leicester Riders 99 (19,44.68) (Washington 18, Sullivan/King 14)

Plymouth Raiders 66 (17,44,51) (Dixon 17, Corletto 15, Grady 12)

We really are a great city for sport. In my lifetime I've seen us win the league in football, rugby, cricket, basketball and (I think ) women's hockey. How many cities outside of London can say that?

And World Champs in Snooker and Bowls.

We are the Champions, Champions of Everything.

Can London say that?

When was the last time a London side won all the other sports?

Hm. Saracens and Middlesex are reigning champions and Chelsea are obviously about to knick our title. London Towers were the basketball force in the 90s.

Surbiton and Southgate are forces in women's hockey, both former champions.

So, uh, yeah, they're doing alright.

Superb achievement. Riders often fall under the radar with the popularity of other sports but what the club have done over the past few years is nothing short of remarkable.

Once in danger of going out of existence to arguably the best team in the country.

Another success story for our great city

Watched it on t.v, Riders totally dominant. they slacked off a bit in the last quarter but totally dominated the game and the defence was superb. it's been a fantastic season for them with the cup, trophy and now the play off final as well as finishing top in the league

congratulations Riders

Is there a chance for some of these lads to play a team at NBA level?

It's a shame they arent able to take part in the European competitions i.e. the basketball equivalent of the Champions league. Some pretty class teams play in that but as of yet British teams have been unable to agree terms to join it. With the finacial strains etc

That would be the next step imo if it can happen

There is a third tier European compeititon what could apply - like a Cup Winners Cup. A lot of the UK teams don't fit the requirements with their arenas let alone anything else.

Personally think European competitions in Basketball would favour a scenario where the groups are played at a single home arena.

Watched it on tv .Absolutely smashed them. Never been into basketball but started taking the kids occasionally recently and they love it. Helps that they seem to win all the time. Went to the Semi Final last week and was great fun.
